Toronto fans should have he greatest love for Swedish players the most. Two of the leaders from Toronto eras are Swedes. Borje Salming and Matt’s Sundin. Salming had skating grit, and puck handling. He faced off with the broad street bullies and got pummelled and never backed down. Salming also was the first Swede to break into the NHL. Sundin had it all and when he got angry he was scary, but he was just such a nice guy.

You have a very good list there. Mine is, naturally, Nicklas Backstrom. "Nicky" is a very underrated player, and people hardly talk about his two-way play. It's not like Bergeron's level, but yes, he can play defensively if needed. I'll be really sad when he leaves DC, either through retirement, trade or free agency, cause Backstrom is an integral part of the Capitals team strategy.

@courteousc20607 жыл бұрын
The Leafs and Oilers are lucky in the case that there was a franchise player available at #1. If the Leafs got Hischier or Ryan Nugent-Hopkins-like players instead of Matthews, I do not think they would be in the position they are now. And it does take luck to get #1 now. It's a lottery, bud, being in last doesn't guarantee you a pick at all. Just look at Vancouver.

Take out McDavid and see if that roster even sees remotely the same amount of success. Think Maroon pots 30 on Nuge's wing? Yeah right buddy

Luck is part of drafting. Some key players where drafted late in the NHL and there's lots of first round busts. Being an Ottawa fan they drafted Daigle, Bonk and Yashin early in the draft and it was a 6th round flyer that turned out to be their franchise forward. Pavel Bure was a 6th rounder, Hasek was a 10th rounder, Datsyuk was in the 6th, Jamie Benn was a 5th rounder. It's all a big crapshoot and in Hockey one player can turn a franchise.

Six years late, I got this in my feed. You know the players, know their names, pronounce them correctly and have an eye for hockey. Yes, Alfredsson one of the most underrated, Bengt Åke Gustafsson too sometimes, despite him being key to beat Sovietunion 1987, opening for a change in the 80s World Championships. The same year Sweden beat Canada with 9-0 I believe. Gradin was very very solid to, and made a huge difference to the entire line, team despite not always creating own points. Gustafsson man. Pretty sure if you ask any Swedish NHL player today, over 50% would rate Forsberg in the top 3. And Forsberg by Swedish fans opinions in general probably would be the player that would top the list. Watched your other video where you went over his whole career, which was really good (like all your videos). A tribute to the talent and skill of Swedish players when Peter Forsberg is 19. Salming was the first Swede and even recognizing my Toronto bias I think I am right thinking that he should be higher. With Cherry and the idiot Toronto media always trying to swing the Leaf management (and sometimes succeeding) away from the Swedish skill bias. I am surprised that you would put Erik over Linstrom. I would put Linstrom as one of the best defenceman of all time. Erik is fast going in that direction I mean that Saucer pass was insane but he is going to need to show it for a couple more years. As for the money thing most Swedish players are not overly greedy. Alfredsson was always way way under market value and he isn't appreciated as much because he played for the Sens. He was an all around good player and it's a shame that CBC didn't cover the Sens over the Leafs during his career because lots of people would have seen a different Alfredsson.

You cant be wrong with opinions. I disagree with some of these picks but I absolutely get why *_you_* picked them. Thats not "being wrong", thats just a different view or values. Imo, and most Swedes, the top3 players we ever had is Sundin, Lidström and Forsberg. Sundin and Lidström is always in peoples top list but Forsberg is often left out, primarily due to his career being cut short by injury. This is not strange as non-swedes only ever saw him in the olympic and NHL. We saw him every day for almost a decade before he was even drafted. His points dosnt compare to other players cuz its a cumulative stat but if there was a "value per minute played" stat, Forsberg is possibly THE best player we ever had. Even so, *_you_* dont have to like him. It doesnt mean youre wrong. My favorite player of all time is Steve Yzerman, he is my no1. Not saying he was THE best player of all time, just that he is THE player i personally enjoyed the most. ... But he was really fakking awesome tho 🤣
