I exhaust my grip on my thick bar almost daily while in the shower. My forearms are just as thick as my thighs.

I think hes talking about not being able to keep his grip on max attempts. I had that problem when I started nearing 5 plates. The way I cured it was by doing static holds at the end of my working set of 5 reps. Once i was able to do 5 reps with 405 followed by a ten second static hold in 5he locked out position, going over 500 was no longer limited by my grip, AT ALL.

With regards to forearm training in general, I find that it greatly helps prevent any forearm or elbow pain on heavy pressing movements. I've got long arms, and once a week or so, at the end of a pulling workout, I'll do three or four sets of high rep wrist curls using a (regular thickness) barbell and some weight and it pretty much eliminates any pain in that area of my arm.

This is why I use a 27mm deadlift bar, it allows me to deadlift more weight without grip being a factor

I know Dan John uses thick bar deadlifts during Easy Strength and said that it works very well. If grip is your limiting factor in this lift, which it often is, then thick bars can help and your form should not deteriorate. It also takes the stress of lifting heavy deadlifts off your body, as it can take 7 - 10 days to recover fully from 2 heavy sets of 5. They are a valid tool and should be considered from the point an individual is lifting around a double bodyweight deadlift. I find it strange how recovering from a heavy deadlift session with normal sized bars is not mentioned, as deadlifting heavy all year round is not feasible for most.

Use straps for deadlift so the grip doesn’t limit your deadlift and thick bar holds for grip at the end of your deadlift training. You can train grip without interfering with your deadlift training.

Get strong at pressing the axle, and you’ll bust through plateaus on the BB press. All of the strongest men in history have used other tools than just the barbell to get where they got.

Just anecdotal but the COC no.1 gripper seemed to help me with deadlift grip. When I got it I couldn't budge a 405lb off the floor without straps. Trained with the gripper awhile until I could get about 20 reps then tried the 405 dead and was able to pull it all the way up all the sudden for a rep

You could just do extra grip work after deadlifts then recover for the week

@@BuJammy So you've done several SS NLP and you know that your grip lacked on the first, so the second you tried "hammer curls" and this time around they helped you grip the bar for deadlift without straps or hook grip. If that's so you should know much of a difference it makes. Just how much difference does it make?

I think this discussion on grip should be a little more nuanced grip is not just one specific thing there’s different types of grip strength pinch,crush,finger,etc.. like magnus midtbo or Devon larratt. Hell we all saw Devon larratt toy with Thor bjorrson in arm wrestling even though Thor was a 1100lb deadlifter and weighed double what Devon does Devon didn’t even have to try. Now according to rip the man with the heavier deadlift has the stronger grip and that’s just not true, if it was true Thor would wrecked Devon because there’s probably an 800lb difference in their deadlift max.

Using those thick grips while deadlifting is gonna f up your form and result in injury. Think people
@hp34933 жыл бұрын
There's no reason that thicker grips would f up your form and result in injury. In the instance of an axle bar the weight might be slightly farther out, but somehow everyday a strongman somewhere axle deadlifts and lives to tell the tale. If fat grips were used then the biomechanics are identical to a standard deadlift.
@hp34933 жыл бұрын
I believe grip strength is very specific, the best way to get good at gripping a standard barbell is to grip a STANDARD barbell, but the idea that you are much more likely to get injured lifting a weight that is easier for almost your entire musculature is ridiculous.
