Wanna know something cool? You can steal/shadows step while casting dagger five skills 'cloak and dagger', so as it's almost done channeling you get guaranteed hit, plus stealth, plus buffs if you spec into trickery or deadly arts. Really recommend running trickery and deadly arts trait.lines, and for the 3rd use acrobatics for more melee dodgy, shadow arts for more stealth, or critical strikes for more damage. Run sword/dagger or dagger/dagger or dagger/pistol with shortbow as other weapon. Imo this is the best set up for new thief players to understand the niches of thief. Trickery or deadly arts, I mix them.up, gives you more initiative making misusing abilities less punishing. And one makes your steal let you have 2 charges of stolen abilities, making it easier to.lnow what they are and when to use them. If you played Ele ever, thief is opposite. Ele requires constant use abilities a flow you could say. Thief is more about having strong auto attack, and knowing when to.use your skills in certain situations. Each button press is deliberate and calculated. If you keep running out of initiative when you need more, you are playing thief incorrectly. Don't quit and keep researching and playing. It's honestly why most thiefs quite the proff, too squishy or also.out of initiative. If you like staying in a long 1v1 fight "duelist" don't pvp as thief. You are pop in pop out, de cap bases, making other fights become one-sided in your favor. 1 teammate fighting an enemy at a base, make it 2v1 and secure the kill. You cannot play thief like any of the other proffs PvE and PvP is about being quick, bursty, slippery (dodges evades stealth teleports) very calculated and calm. Also using terrain and cheap tactics to win If you are coming from WoW as a Feral Druid or Rogue, you will love GW2 thief when you master it

Run Dead Eye elite spec. Your initiative is like your energy, and you now get malice 5 to 7, consumed on stealth attack for massive damage. You like Windwalker monk.and wish they used their staff for actual attacks? Play Daredevil, melee staff access with 3 dodges, and new physical abilities. Like shadow priest or battle mages, or both? Run specter elite spec, shadow form shadow Teleport wells, scepter weapon. Want to heal? Also run specter with scepter weapon. Note with SoTO expansion you get access to elite spec weapons across the profession. So deadeye could technically used specter weapon scepter.😊 I'll shut up now.

I played the Rifle Deadeye with 2 pistols to maximize my shots. It's awesome to play as a sniper in the open world while fighting alongside everyone else doing boss events! LOL

I think it would have been more informative if you spotlight on why Thieves has initiatives instead of cooldowns and what makes the profession different from other melee class. You can easily make a full 10 minutes video simply by exploring the Initiatives resource -- how to spend it, how to recharge it, when to use it, etc.

I'd say Thieves are Mesmers but without magic "and less gay like". They specialize in high damage and picking single targets while mostly avoiding attacks rather than blocking, taking or outright reversing attacks. They have an easier time engaging and disengaging a target, especially with steal which teleports them a REALLY great distance. They prefer hit and run tactics. Having a few bonuses while in stealth, but also some buff when out of stealth (one giving more power aka damage when not stealthed). They like striking once then getting away. Their main issue is their single target focus being very forced. Hence multiple targets will often find an opening as Thiefs generally almost have exclusively single target attacks. Knives can be used on multiple though, if they're close to each other.

Thief main here. I think it's funny how a lot of people that play other classes like mesmer and elementalist brag about their classes being the most challenging but if you would put a lot of them in open world on a thief with just daggers or dagger pistol they would be crying within minutes!!!

Thieves even from a newbie perspective is pretty clear what their main focus is. Single target PvP high damage assassin. I'd say making them easily cry against a Thief would only prove they actually are more challenging. Tried elementalist and they really lack in damage in my opinion. Quite flashy and large AOI but in pve in the regular game, I struggled to get any good damage. Fire sadly is the most damage efficient and yet was weak with knives. Staff is a lost cause. The rest. I honestly see no purpose for much. Water is purely healing, wind is lightning but no damage mostly some blinding, a stun and some movement buff. And earth is as blunt as a rock. Refence turtle. The best sadly is the elite fire sword. Which has a very short existence time. Sad how none of the elements besides fire gets any damage opportunity. What's worse is an event in the Charr land where you pickup a lightning staff to fight ghosts. Not only are the lightning attacks very potent in damage, but they look better and feel hundred times more satisfying to use. The main fire calling a lightning bolt from the sky and one attack being a rapid fire burst of lightning balls with great damage.

My problem with thieves is after playing agains them I just despise them. Even though they are quite fun and powerful to play but because of that playstyle of always being able to run, vanish and later re-engage if they don't win the fight made me despise them especially in wvwvw. Since you feel robbed of a kill you maybe deserved. xD Though spectre and deadeye look really fun and interesting... we'll see if I get past my negative feelings for thieves to once enjoy playing one. Hehe..

legit this was my main point of anger, drop all their damage then disappear for 10 seconds only to come back with even more damage. I had a similar feeling to this when I played rogues in WoW. as someone who's played deadeye fairly frequently I'd have to say it is a ton of fun!

1 on 1, deadeye is fun as hell. But against a pack of mobs or groups of player, the weak points start to glaring

I've only been able to pick one elite and tried Spectre and it pisses me off how unique and different it is from any other class or weapon I've tried. It's sad such a big difference is locked behind expansion and to a single weapon. It's a true support or offense weapon. Being able to purely focus an ally or enemy. Giving shields and movement buffs like The Medic from TF2 or Overwatch. I haven't seen any other class have this.

@@CaffeinatedDad pistols for a single mob, daggers for multiple mobs. I can easily solo one mob 5-6 levels higher while taking almost no damage using double daggers. Caster mobs can be interupt locked with pistols. Time it right and they can't cast a single spell

I managed to reach lvl 80 solely because Thief is the only class that knows how to use a damn gun. Rapid fire burst non stop is so satisfying and so braindead it's pure dopamine. And with the no cooldown and initiative recovery speed, you can rapid fire non stop permanently. Even firing your second ability once on a while to lower their defense and mobility. Wonder how annoying this is in PvP.

im trying to play a thief rn but am easily overpowered by hoardes of enimies. i feel like the thief lacks some eoa attacks making it hard to play against groups of enemies.

thief is tough against many enemies, my suggestion is focusing a single target down as quickly as can and use evasiveness and escapes to maneuver away until you have skills up again. double pistol thief offers a ton of ranged damage without putting you in too much danger as well!

Shortbow is your answer, it's peeling enemy healthbar slowly, but on packs it offers you nice aoe condition damage, it's auto attack even bouncing around enemies, and it also give you the much needed escape utility.

That's the Thief's main issue. It's almost a purely 1v1 PvP assassin class. Could just as well be called assassin. The best idea would be knives. They have a good multi target range and bouncing knives.
