That is a pretty week argument.. We do the same with families in business ... and politics could be easily solved by limiting number of terms a given citizen can serve before taking a long break. To think that the only way we can progress is through death is preposterous. Single companies withing one generation are making incredible progress, and frequently progress is stifled by death of exceptional individuals due to aging.

@arconus I agree with what you're saying about progress being stifled by the death of exceptional individuals. And I think you're more of an optimistic than myself, which isn't a bad thing.Yes,on paper there are limits to power that constitutioms might have over politicians, of governments might have over companies,

The people with the big smart brains can't figure out why the body and the brain dies since the body and it's cells renew themselves. It's not "extremely selfish", it's human nature to never want to die. You're going according to what you're believing. Everyone has the right to believe what they wish to believe and if that belief is the possibility to live forever, then so be it. The world is going to evolve with or without you.

@arconus There's also the practical aspect of administering this type of treatment. No doubt it would be very expensive, and it would be naive to think EVERYONE would have equal access to long life. Even now, you get drastically varied life spans across the globe- which is pretty much divided between the haves and the have nots. Imagine a world where this was played out in the extremes of those who die of old age and those who dont't.

I think it's more to do with the degeneration of the body with age than the actual event of dying, though they do go hand in hand. My question is where the capacity to house the excess population will come from, if no 1 is dying or if everyone is aging slower then the birth rate will be h

So, should we stop trying to cure disease generally? Stop trying to cure cancer or AIDS? Or is curing those diseases somehow more important than mitigating over-population?
@d314j412 жыл бұрын
Stopping old age is a sure fire way to stop change, development and innovation. The old in politics and business would be further able to cement themselves into positions of power and stiffle promising youth coming up.

@arconus but the goal of the powerful and the rich is the same- to maintain or gain as much as they can, for as long as they can. Even without curing old age, you see examples all over the world of presdients, companies, powerful families monopolise power in their favour. And the longer you stay on top, the more you feel entitled to it- essentially power will corrupt you the longer you have it.

Old people already cement themselves in position of power.They also control what is taught in the school.They also controls who often inherit there power. It will happen no matter what you think. So whether you stop old age or not make no difference. You lost already.

I disagree. The biggest stumbling block to the poor and working classes overcoming "the elites" is education. With all the time in the world, everyone would have time to become educated. Once everyone knows whats going on, you think they are going to put up with it "forever"? I don't.
there is in fact nothing more "normal" or "natural" than old age and death...
