You must not be from Detroit, and I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. I’m originally from Detroit and you don’t want to be known as someone that calls the cops, word gets around fast in the hood and you’ll be targeted even if you were looking out for your neighbor. The first time I fired an ak was in our front yard just a few blocks south of 8 mile near conant, I didn’t believe it would go through a brick so they showed me it would by firing a shot at the abandoned building next door. Broad daylight with a small apartment building across the street and the cops never came, it did go through the wall btw. The only part of Detroit that cops and our representatives care about is downtown, that’s why everything is there instead of spread out around such a big city. If you fire a shot downtown you’ll get an immediate response from lots of cops but not in most neighborhoods. Once I could afford to move out of the city I did and have no intention of ever moving back.

Not doubting the woman’s story, but I do have to ask tough questions. I remember when I had my furnace installed. It wasn’t a short process. It’s not like when you snatch a purse or a small item when you steal a furnace you’re going to need multiple people you’re going to need a truck or a van How did these people get in her house to steal her furnace and how did they have enough time to do it? I could understand if you’re on vacation and someone breaks in your house and steals your furnace but day-to-day living in your house. I don’t know how someone has enough time to get in and steal a furnace and a hot water heater.

you've never dealt with professional thieves. if they've done it long enough, they know how to remove it quickly. More than one person works to take it apart.and the lady might not have a car so if she's on the bus, then it's easier to do. But at least one neighbor seen the crooks.

You don't need multiple people or alot of time to uninstall a furnace, they typically weigh 100lbs or less and a person stealing it will not try to carefully remove it, they will just rip it apart from the ductwork in seconds and carry it out - This story does sound strange due to the news giving very little context.

I’m confused. My house has the same problem and right now I’m huddled next to my space heater. I bought another furnace after 6 weeks of saving but can’t get it installed until next week. The unit is natural gas and burns 86k btus. Weighs about 175 lbs (with no condenser) and needs two men to carry. WHO would have the time and opportunity to disconnect a furnace (must be licensed because most contractors won’t touch furnace jobs) and carry it out like nothing. The noise alone would have awakened me in my heated house because that’s where I’d be…at home. Something ain’t mathing and she looks nervous. Anyway merry Xmas yall and happy new year.

A thief is just going to turn the gas valve off and rip the furnace apart from the ductwork and carry it away, don't have to be licensed for that and it can be done in seconds - Most furnaces in smaller modest sized homes like this weigh around 100lbs so one guy could theoretically carry it himself but yes it's likely a 2 man job - This story sounds very strange with not enough context or backstory because most people don't have their appliances stolen from their homes that they live in full time and with no witnesses on top of that.

Do NOT use the stove or space heaters to heat your house! Both are fire hazards and the gas stove releases fatal carbon monoxide. Space heaters can catch nearby items on fire and should never be used overnight. Hopefully, she gets the help she needs soon. And stealing a water heater and a furnace is no easy fleet. Obviously, someone with a background in installing them would know how to disconnect them and haul them away quickly.

Hot water tanks take hours to drain...then... you spend hours to carefully shut them down and carefully unhook water, electricity, and the gas line. This does not include the long time they take to be carefully lifted and taken up stairs & out to a very big truck by a couple of very big guys. Where was she... when all this time, noise, and obvious work was taking place??? How did the thieves know how much time they would have to fully complete their job? How did they know she had new appliances or equipment installed? Did anyone in the neighborhood have Ring doorbell, cell phone, or security cameras that recorded the suspicious truck, men, & tanks going out of her house? There is still a reward leading to an arrest for a felony isn't there? The news would have helped police & other citizens if they announced the make, model, & serial number of furnace that was stolen...preventing the thieves from making a fast profit & hopefully catch them.
