2 teaspoons yeast
1/3 cup non-fat dry milk
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon salt
6 cups of bread flour
1/3 cup melted butter, allow to cool
Thanks for watching.

Hi Phyllis!! I love the idea of making your own buns so you can control the thickness of them. Many times commercially made buns are "too much bread" and these are much healthier with no preservatives. Fabulous video Phyllis, thank you and many blessings, Melanie

How I had wish I had watched this 58 years ago. I bought a cookbook on my honeymoon but I am not American. I found it so hard to learn to cook. I did not become a good until after quite a while My late husband loved my food. How easy Phillis made it. One Sunday in a rush I put a boiled salted piece of beef in the roasting oven. What a disaster I was not popular that day.

I've been making my own hamburger buns for almost a year, and will never go back to store bought. There is nothing like the taste and texture of homemade and they aren't full of preservatives. My husband doesn't normally care for bread but whenever I make these, he'll eat two before they have a chance to cool down - shows how good they are. As soon as they cool down, I freeze them because if I wait too long, I'm afraid we won't have any left for our meals. I like to use them for hamburgers, lunch meat sandwiches, BLTs and also for breakfast sandwiches. I like your method for shaping the buns - great idea! I usually roll a piece of dough into a ball and then press it down with my fingers - the buns aren't uniform in size and often, are thicker than we like. I'll definitely roll out the dough and cut them next time. Great video!

Thanks for your comment, cookiebakr. I use to make mine the same way but I could never get them thin enough so I started rolling them a few years back ago. We like the thinner ones much better. We also use our for sandwiches.

Hi Phylis. Greetings,, peace nd gods blessings to u nd Mr Bucky. Dont be sad Lily bell (from what u've said on ur video) will have a good life god willing nd a long life nd will make a good companion for her new owner (sounds like she will be spoilt beyond all imagination😆😆if I may be so bold; I feel u should keep Ranger as he's quite settled with u nd Mr Bucky to be purring all the time nd so loudly, he sure is one happy little cat. Another reason is, he gets on quite well with the dogs, it's not my place to tell u what to do, but u all make up a beautify little family nd he dosn't take up much room!!!! Please please please keep him as he's showing u he can do what the dogs can do just as well😆with fetch. Happy mothers day nd may u have tons more. All the best with ur move, I hope it goes well god willing. I'm so happy I happened upon ur site. God bless u both, peace and happiness to u both.

Can't wait. Also, wanted to tell ya I think all your videos are nice. Mrs.Phyllis, those packets of yeast that you spoke about in the store have 2 and a quarter teaspoons in each of them. So for your recipe, a person would use one packet. I use them all the time, but went to Sam's club and purchased the bulk yeast, which is so much cheaper in cost. Love your bun recipe!! YUM! I like my buns more on the thinner size , as you do. Plus the recipe goes farther. :) XO

She mentioned 2 tsp yeast in the video, but said 2 packs. A pack of yeast is 2 1/4 tsp. which comes to 4 1/2 tsp. For 6 cups of flour, 2 tsp doesn’t seem like enough, so I’m not sure about the yeast amount. There is a discrepancy.

I love bread making and I do all my own buns, rolls and flat breads. I'm not paying almost 5 dollars for an 8 pk of good hamburger buns. I'm too cheap. lol Plus my homemade ones don't fall apart. Once you learn it becomes second nature and you can whip up a batter fast. The rising takes time but the end product is well worth it. I also like artisan baking bc TIME does the kneading for you. Thanks Phyllis great recipe and much like my own.:o)

@@chrisdiane8429 All you need to make great bread is a big bowl, a wooden spoon and TIME. It's nice if you have a stand mixer with a dough hook but it's not needed. I do bake in my convection toaster oven as well as my stove oven. I've not tried the crockpot method but I wouldn't waste my money on a bread machine. However, whatever works for ya. :o)

@PhyllisStokes
@PhyllisStokes 10 жыл бұрын
Hi ohiomommy330, The powdered milk does not have any live enzymes which kill yeast. You can use regular milk but it must be heated to almost boiling to kill the enzymes and then cooled to lukewarm (105-115 degrees). Using powdered milk is just easier(no live enzymes)

It really is not economical to make homemade bread when you can purchase French bread and Italian bread for $1.00 per loaf at Walmart. I have even sliced it to use as loaf bread for sandwiches and they say it has no preservatives. It also taste much better than loaf bread to me and always fresh.

@PhyllisStokes
@PhyllisStokes 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Ange, The buns rose a total of three times 1. First is initial doubling in bulk about an hour then punch down 2. Let rise in the same bowl about 45 minute will double or triple 3. Roll and cut out buns, place on baking sheets let rise again Total of three times rising - this makes the buns very light.
