They should make a movie out of Phil Lynots life. It's just as tragic as Freddy Mercurys life. He was also a musical genius. He was a brilliant song writer. And one of the most underrated bassist of all time. He was also the chief lyricist of the band. In the end drugs did him in. What a loss. Oh ! P.S. Why is Thin Lizzy not in the rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their just as good as Queen. In fact they blew Queen of the stage in Houston in 1977. Live and Dangerous is just as good as Live Killers by Queen. Their albums are more hard rock and more consistent than any Queen album. They should be in the Hall of Fame !

Michael Hollibone Yep - I would have turned 19 in April '78 and I vividly recall this gig as one of the highlights of a misspent youth that included so many legendary Aussie bands - Chisel, Birdman, the Oils, Angels etc. I would have given anything to be Scott Gorham in 78 - blazing guitar solos and that hair. Most of us looked more like Dee Dee Ramone but I'm sure he had his share of groupies too :D

I didn't wait for Thin Lizzy to have a Les Paul. I don't think Les Paul are for something in their sound, it's only high distortion and any amplified instrument plugged into a distortion or OD or fuzz stompbox is able to sound like that...see Iron Maiden: Dave Murray use to play strat, with a lot of delay, it sounds heavy. Explorer, Flying V, SG, Jackson, BC Rich, Gretsch, Telecaster and Strats would have sound the same in Moore and Gorham's hands...

DanR67 yeah he's a great player but he looked like a silly pingpong ball bouncing all over like that. Scott Gorham was much cooler as was Brian Robertson (sorry). But I suppose neither could hold a candle to Moore. Robbo always looked up to Moore and even Gorham admitted he wasn't as accomplished as Robertson was. But I always liked that lineup the best (Gorham-Robertson). It's too bad what happened with Robertson but when you're young and foolish I suppose...!

I saw the great band in Melbourne at Festival Hall, when I later lived in Texas and played drums ,when we did the Cowboy Song , well the memories of seeing that band would almost make me cry (almost !). Phil and Gary ,huge loss to music.

I often think that guitarists need a band to constrain them, Gary Moore is a good example. I think he was perfect for Thin Lizzy and Thin Lizzy was perfect for him.

I don't agree. Gary Moore is terrific but was always something of a primadonna - needed to be the star. He was best in a band where he's the only guitar player, as he was when he had his own act(s). For a guy that didn't want to be part of Thin in 1973, he appears to slot in rather well with them in 1978 (due only, I would say, to the departure of hard-drinking, fist-breaking Brian Robertson). But I'd contend the over-emotiing here is emblematic of his need for more particular attention. Still, at least he knows the material well enough :)

it could be argued that, next to Phil, or with Phil, Scott Gorham IS Thin Lizzy. He was Phil's most loyal bandmate, co-writer and friend; and will still say so.

The sound quality isn't to good, but the power of this gig and the the band in general, is really something. And the audience is really within the music. This is so cool, I love it and the raw power of Phil and his bandmates. Thank you for the upload

I just kinda got into Thin Lizzy within that last few years. I always knew of Thin Lizzy & to be quite honest a lot of his hit songs i didn't even know were by Thin Lizzy & i'm amazed how many great songs he has that i had no idea were his. & as a bassist myself of 25yrs Phil Lynott is one bad ass 4-string ringer.

1978 was the year I was born. Sometimes I regert the fact that I never had the pleasure and the privilege to see Thin Lizzy with Phil Lynott fronting them... Still.. I am a Lizzy Fan since my brother showed me Bad Reputation. When I grew older I purchased all the Albums... and I am proud to have them here in my shelf, but there is one Album that changed my life. Thunder and Lightning! Badass Album.

Why did Mark Nauseef play? Where was Brian?
@kdrew-feed
@kdrew-feed 3 жыл бұрын
@@SilverTounge85 from an interview I found online wondering the same thing- Brian Downey said "Oh, yeah. That’s the one I missed. Yeah, you know what I mean? I kind of came down with a kind of pneumonia situation. I was pretty ill, to say the least. And well, I informed our manager about the situation, I was really ill, and he said, “Well, it’s too late to cancel the tour.” And he said, “You don’t mind if we replace you with a stand-in drummer?” And I just, I said, “Well, you know, I’ve really no problem with it.” Because I mean, I was so ill I didn’t want to start arguing the toss about it. And, so, he got Mark Nauseef. Mark Nauseef had to fill in for me, for those couple of dates in Australia. Unfortunately, he had a film crew at one of the major gigs there, at the Opera House. And it was just unfortunate that I missed it because it became a big DVD. Well, not on DVD, it wasn’t released promotionally, but it became a big Lizzy fans favourite, not DVD, a video. And then, it was just one of those things, I couldn’t travel, I was just so ill. And they just had to replace me for those, and the dates were confirmed, you couldn’t get out of the contract. So, they had to fulfill those days no matter what."

I saw them in Newcastle, north of Sydney, my first rock concert. I actually had their records already too. I remember the sound pressure pushing the volume out of my lungs like a mild winding, drunk people being stood on, and thongs (the footwear) being thrown onto the stage. I'll never forget it.

Crazy thing i learned about lizzy its crazy. The bass player and drummer hold the structure together while the guitars break out in two different octaves giving the world an eargasm phenomenal shit. It sounds like two bag pipes going off electrified its fucking crazy and genius, pure genius. I believe they were a true phenomena.
