They had charm, charisma, humour, modesty and the best collection of rock songs under their belt that lesser bands would have died for, along with the best drummer, most charismatic front man and the best twin guitarists this side of everywhere and anywhere. Newer fan here. My first ever exposure to Thin Lizzy was "The Boys Are Back In Town" playing in the trailer for "Toy Story" when I was a little kid. Since then I've known and loved that song, But it wasn't until the past couple years (in my early 30's) that I started to really fall in love with this band. Until now the only full albums that I've known really well have been "Jailbreak" and "Black Rose." As you probably well know, these have been enough to keep me occupied and obsessed for a couple years, but I of course started to look around at which albums of theirs I could get into next, and I've done a little experimenting. Finding this footage of this concert has been like a key or a Rosetta Stone for unlocking the appeal of their pre-Jailbreak work. All this material from "Fighting" and "Nightlife" being played so blisteringly. A band at the top of their powers, and pre-Jailbreak! Now i'm jamming Fighting pretty hard the past few days and watching documentary videos about them. Indescribable fucking band.

This is jolly marvellous. Just keep in mind that Robertson is 18 here; Gorham is like 23. You don't see musical presence of mind in people that age these days. People are right saying the Thin were (or still are) underrated. I've met people who thought Lynryd Skynyrd were 'great' guitar players. They're good; but they're not Gorham-and-Robertson calibre. These guys pretty much invented the dualling/duelling-guitar thing. I played a lot of Thin with my old band - Lynott being a role model for the singing bass player - and I never considered them a 'metal' band. They're 'hard rock'; but the key to their uniqueness is the concentration on melody and harmony. They're not just doodling around to indulge their egos - the solos are actually little songs that are pretty much required to be played verbatim by cover bands. The solos are as much part of the songs as the lyrics and verses' melodies.
@0bsoninc.6074 жыл бұрын

Thin Lizzy & the very Blessed Phil Lynott music trapped me it their headlights from the very first moment I heard and played their music. I saw lizzy live many times and can confirm that they were the very finest band that ever played of the stage of Gods green earth, Phil had some many things that very special about him. I tried to get away, I tried to leave it all behind me after our man Phil passed away, it was just too sad to know that Phil was not around anymore we could no longer look forward to listing to his great new stories, his new tall tales and his new magical songs. Ater a few years I was brought back my young son Tyrone who keep telling me that he never heard better music and all his friends were a little jealous that his father and been to see Thin Lizzy so many time. Phil and all the boys in Thin Lizzy were all quality people and at the very top of the list as very seriously respected musicians.i remember a few years back Scott referred to Lizzy of this time as the fab 4, he could not be more right away that. Phil & Thin Lizzy made us Irish boys very proud to put their name forward when every we talked to others about the very best quality music that was out their at that time. No other band was better than the Mighty Thin Lizzy & Phil Paris Lynott who was a direct descent of the ancient Irish warrior Cú Chulainn, the hound of Ulster.

+Krister Persson I just "discovered" this amazing rock'n roll pearl. Never saw this live-recording before where they play some of their earlier songs live and with this high quality sound and picture. And with my favourite Lizzy guitar line-up too. Couldn't be any better, man, - R.I.P. Philip Parris Lynott - Thin Lizzy lives forever!
@kpersson404549 жыл бұрын
They do live forever. Never quit listening to these guys, always comes back to them on a regular basis. I think I always do when I get bored with current music and need some flashback and they always sound great.

TL fans know what's up. Ask Maiden, Priest and all the heavy bands will tell you... this band influenced them in one way or another. One of the most respected bands peer to peer.
@TheGreatAlan757 жыл бұрын
Lizzy the most influential band of the 70's. Their twin guitar style was a major influence on the biggest metal acts after. Priest, Maiden, Metallica. Those are only the most influential metal acts of all time !! And they ALL are heavily indebted to thin Lizzy. Lizzy started the twin lean guitars in a hard rock context. NOBODY used that style the way they did. I don't care if a few other bands used harmonizing guitars, they did not take it to the level Lizzy did. Lizzy not in the hall of fame is the most ridiculous omission. They are infinitely more influential than fucking cheap trick or most of the other bands in there.

Wow, I'm a huge fan since the 70's and never saw this. Their early albums lacked production and I couldn't really listen to them but LIVE is a different story especially Wild One. Those double guitar solos kick live and the thing about is they do them clean with natural distortion, much harder to articluate and get right so this is amazing. Just an amazing band just on the brink of breaking big and it's easy to hear why.Lean, hungry and tight. Thanks for posting this!

Yeah, Thin Lizzy was one of the first bands to employ twin guitar harmonies and prominently I should add which inspired bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden to use them in their music. While Thin Lizzy never made it big in the United States they are considered influential to many hard rock and metal bands to come out post 1970's and especially Iron Maiden and Metallica
