Phil Lynott, Thin Lizzy's leader wrote a bunch of great rockers but he also wrote great romantic slow songs and ballads... that contrast is what I like from him, he could play the tough guy in his songs but also the cool dandy. What a phenomenal talented man he was, he got a statue in Dublin, but every city in the world should have a Phil Lynott statue celebrating his charisma and greatness

I saw Thin Lizzy back up Queen in Kalamazoo, MI in January 1977 -- Phil Lynott was MAGNETIC - my BFF and I were the b/c we are obsessed with Queen - and met the band briefly at the Holiday Inn across the parking lot -- (long story, and ALL cool guys dealing with awkward teens - but that's not entirely relevant) -- what I wanted to say was that Thin Lizzy came out BLAZING - and especially PL -- I have not seen videos since that showed as much of his charismatic performance (he almost distracted me from my 16-yr-old crush on Brian May -- well, for a second, anyway:) - this was the coolest guy EVER -- when we saw him, he had that bass slung down around his KNEES... - RIP Phil -

Thin Lizzy as a band and as musicians are in my opinion underestimated. Phil was more than a songwriter he was also a poet. Don't think there are too many songwriters like Phil who was very open about everything he struggled with.

Phil Lynott (1949-1986) , who wrote "The Boys Are Back In Town" and most of Thin Lizzy's most popular material as well as some interesting solo albums, sang lead and was the group's Bassist. He died of liver disease at only 36 years of age. He was a legendary heavy drinker. A statue of him was erected in his irish hometown. Lynott's father was black and his mother was a white, Irishwoman. although he made his mark in his short life, he might have achieved so much more if he had had a normal llifespan of say 78 to 80 years.

A "Thin Lizzy" is a very thinly rolled joint. My wife and I saw Thin Lizzy live about 10 times, they were a great band to see. And yes I'm showing my age, we also saw Queen 5 times. My Oldest daughter blames me for sort of naming our youngest grand daughter 3 years ago. When I held her for the first time I started sing the Thin Lizzy song "Sarah" to her, Phil Lynott wrote that to his own daughter, oops. When I was in the Royal Marine Commandos, we would get back from a posting and all you could hear was "The boys are back in town" coming from all the PA speakers at the Barracks.

He was so good looking the camera's couldn't do him Justice . He talked about his Granny all the time . We were a few girls and Lads from Ringsend where you see him walk down the PIER and he played the Trumpet in our local park . It was called Herbert Park . The river you see him on is the Liffey in the video called old town .I am now a Grandmother and still play his music as do my kids and now my Grandchild sings one of his songs called (Whiskey in the Jar) I wish you'd give it a play . It's an amazing song . @

A great band. Their breakthrough tune in America. Great tunes, great playing. Phil lynott's mom was irish, his dad was an African American soldier. Supposedly the song was originally titled " GI Joe is back in town. Unfortunately the L.A. lifestyle got to Phil, he developed an addiction problem that eventually took him too early. Tragic. Scott Gorham, one of the guitarists is still around and carries on the legacy of the band. He' had a big friendship with Phil.

The 70s were so overloaded, you can't help forgetting some bands. I haven't thought about Lizzy in several months. Still sound great!
