"Try A Little Harder" - Thin Lizzy, another 'Fighting'-era B-Side from 1975. Sometimes you just have to give the people what they want. I personally don't like this song that much, but a few of you have asked for it...and since I'm such a nice guy...here it is.
It's not a bad song, just a little slow for me. I'm sure you guys will enjoy it more than me though.

this is why this band gets me, peel the paint off the wall one tune, soft and gentle the next !! pure genius from a 19 year old Robertson and oldster (22) Gorham we are not worthy !! 🙏

@zoedeq I hadn't noticed the Steely Dan undercurrent here -- but you're right! The intro, particularly the "sliding sixths" against a minor vamp, sounds a bit like "Do It Again." The guitar solo (I think it's Robbo from the way he ends on a ninth) has a similar vibe, too. Geez, do I miss this band.

Lead guitar is by Robertson - he wrote the tune and Lynott wrote the lyrics.
@Mompfried
@Mompfried 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about the lead guitar! The solo has Robbo features and Scott features to it. In a way, it's more the laid-back style of Scott, not the intense style of Robbo.
@vidadz7291
@vidadz7291 2 жыл бұрын
@@Mompfried It's definitely Robbo on Lead. The song was co-written by Lynott/Robertson too. I think it's a great track, very reminiscent of the whole 'Fighting' album era, but didn't make the final cut. The Rhythm guitar is very similar-style wise, to what Gorham played on Nightlife SILWY. 👍

To me, this chorus sounds exactly the same as This Boy is Cracking Up. He obviously reused the tune for the later song on the basis that not many people had heard this one. And why not - it's a good tune.

Well, while I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, I would say it's a song that is a bit too good for just being a B-side - or rather it's a B-side worthy of Thin Lizzy, a band that didn't have to squander their single B-sides with some crap as other bands sometimes had to because they didn't have a backlog of good songs as Lizzy had.

I was thinking about this - for me the second side of Fighting probably has the edge on side one - but nothing much in it. The only 'filler' would be Ballad of a Hard Man. The second side has some of my favourite songs like Silver Dollar and Freedom Song. But each to their own I guess. :)
