So the last Ultramarine looks pretty good for a beginner level, the Cadians at the end look completely fine for a starter. My first Cadians looked just like that.

*Vietnam flashback intensifies* I remember a friend of mine when I was a teen who dipped entire chaos space marines in yellow paint because it was to difficult to paint them. Both me and his older brother felt physically ill after looking at those globs of paint on a base. We banned him from ever trying to "paint" again. so me and his brother did the painting part for him instead.

@@daigonmocs0785 yes exactly, but he used really big bottles from a craft store hobby paint. And than after the dipping he tried to paint over it using a big brush with more layers of thick paint. His models make most in this clip look good in comparison.

No, it's actually awful. You're just being fooled by the even worse catastrophes next to him. The paint is slopped on in thick layers that obscures details and makes the whole thing appear lumpy. Most detailing is ignored, look at the right shoulder pad in particular - the iconic eagle wing is just slopped over with the same thick blue as everything else. The few larger details that they've actually bothered with are extremely haphazardly done, with shaky brushstrokes and spillage all over the place. I don't even know what happened on the other should pad, it's like they started detailing it then realized they couldn't be arsed. There's not even an attempt at any shading or highlightning. The armour trims are completely ignored. The base is a grey and red mess. It's bad. It's really bad.

Never underestimate the power of paint thinner, it does so much for you. Just remember to get the odorless kind or your gonna feel really bouncy after a painting session.

You can thin with airbrush medium or even water. Often a wet pallete is all you'll need. You shouldn't use lacquer thinner from Home Depot or something.

the cadians were fine. Hell, even as a beginner level that may not get better, they were more than fine. The Robot Girlyman near the start? I see nothing wrong with these. The idea that everything had to be super detailed, super shaded is part of what burns out new hobbyist. Hell, my last post showing off my newest buggies and my friend who tries to be "professional" but very rarely paints anyways.... gave me just one hell of a backhanded compliment.

I thought surly they would come alive and murder me while i slept for the atrocities I layed upon them with brush and paint.
