You mentioned the metal jig called the thing a ma jig, that's the one I have and it works great. I would recommend just spending a little more. All the pegs fit perfectly and easily. No struggling involved :)

I ordered a real cheap jig from the craft store, if I use it much I will get the metal version from the lapidary store.
