I recently started taking classes from Brandon and I can confidently say he’s a great teacher. The best part about our classes is that we spar afterward to test what we’ve learned. What I like about KI is that its so simple. No flowery motions, its a blade art through and through.

The RRK Family and Mang Henry will appreciate you. Unfortunately, Master Henry suffer a mild stroke that is almost a month now and he is on his recovery. Good progression though since he can move his arm and stand on his own but he still cannot walk that much since his leg is still weak. I like how you think about FMA. Thanks to both you gentlemen (Dean and Paulo) for a good work on promoting FMA. Pugay!

Thank you for doing this… I had trained with the Bakbakan North American headquarters group for 3 years under Master Rey Galang and competed in open tourneys that Bakbakan hosted…had the pleasure of training with Master Topher Ricketts when he would visit the NAHQ and my sister trained with his Manilla group during her stay I. The Philippines during her Med school years and Master Tooher was always so kind to send me Training vids and materials throughout those years which I will always be grateful. So glad u covered this.

Did Dean just say Amok? That's awesome, I don't meet / see that many practitioners of it. Big fan of their methodology.

From my observation a lot of the KZbin clips involve Mang Tony teaching/explaining Ilustrisimo to the others including the five pillars. These clips are widely available. I belive Mang Tony's position is the reason why we didn't have all these claims to Ilustrisimo while he was alive. He was the undisputed GM. The interviews established that most didn't really train with Tatang in a comprehensive sense. They observed asked questions, fed him but primarily worked things out watching videos. Raising some interesting points as to why each went of and developed their own systems which they have stated are based on the principles of Ilustrisimo. To me it could be said they borrowed from Ilustrisimo and added to their own systems. Also to say no we don't use the classic names of the technics is also a bit of a problem as a few linages down the names of the technics will be lost to that chapter and in essence losing the actual system. Just my thoughts...🙏

sounds like recieved ignorance. I dont think Mang Tony would have put himself on a pedistal. You doing so is an invite for others to knock him down. Unless yo have been accepted as a trusted student of several branches of Tatangs non system, then you cant possibly be in a position to judge them. To promote one to higher status than the others would seem to be out of self interest or just school boy "my dads bigger than your dad" immaturity. Great efforts have been made by these gentlemen to bring unity to the KI community. your comment is divisive and undermines this noble cause. As is often the case, the masters have complicated relationships, history and interactions beyond the understanding of second or third generation underlings and yet it is these who draw the simplistic conclusions and sow division. Paulo, many of these arts came about as a necessity due to the environment in which the practitioners grew up with. As modern society seems to teeter farther and farther away from the need for systemized violence. Aren't we losing the only element of what makes it a martial art and not just...well art?

I want to be sedated. Was lucky enough to take lessons with the main man man himself Tatay in Luneta park. I sure did step in s$it finding the group practicing next to the Manila Hotel Sunday mornings and it was purely by accident. Asking around in the 80s for escrima in Manila I always got the same answer…Aywan, I don’t know. They didn’t know , they didn’t want to tell me or most of all they didn’t know what escrima was. Every martial art was practiced by hundreds of people family Sundays in the park except Filipino marital arts. Just one small group was and it was a gold mine for me. When you spoke about what type of guy he was my first thought was a gentleman, funny, and a little hard to understand his English because of the accent and being an older man and financially poor he was missing teeth. Tatay came up to me one Sunday day and asked “ Would you like me to teach you?”. Of course I answered yes and you have seen me here for years now. “Why have you never asked me” and my answer was I thought I would be out of place asking you. To that he said be here tomorrow ( Monday ) at 7 am and of course I asked Philippine time or American time? American time was his answer and sure enough Monday at 7 he came walking from a distance with his one stick and his assistant Robert Moralles. More to come……..
