It puts the child on an equal level with the parent in the relationship. It makes them think they have control over the decisions made in their lives. Young children need parenting. They need to be taught so that one day they will be able to make the right decisions. They should be involved in small decisions, like what movie should we watch and gradually go from there. The more you involve a young child in the decision making the more they will fight you when the decision does not have the out come they want. If the child is older when a new parent is introduced, then I agree, they should feel comfortable calling said parent Mom or Dad and not be forced. But in the case of Nicole's children, she raised them as infants therefore she is their mother and should be called mother. The facts that they aren't is a power play by Tom. Tom has to have complete control. He doesn't have that with Suri and Katie therefore they are written out of his life. Katie did well in leaving him. Katie is a strong woman. Nicole, not so much. I'm glad that she is happy now. She deserves more than a control freak like Tom.

I read about it along with some documentaries and specials on him. Ron Hubbard wanted to be a Sci-fi writer and even began in comics. He couldn't cut it and was a failure. No one found it interesting or bought his material. Somehow, that was about the time of cults, commutes, etc., and the like was happening and he either saw something on TV about it and said to himself that people will believe anything given the right presentation, so he packaged his sci-fi crap as a religion to not only make money but to be tax exempt. In that way he became successful by becoming one of the biggest con-men and charlatans ever. Even his own son disavowed him and said he was full of it and a liar. Yet, there are ppl who are searching to fill a hole in their life and stumble upon him, instead of the only way to fill that hole. Poor dupes!

Keith Partridge was a manufactured character played by David Cassidy. He was miserable being packaged and sold to the highest bidder with no input. When he died in a house fire, David Cassidy had been trying to establish a that father-son relationship, but to no avail. In fact, Shirley Jones was more of a loving parent, even though she was his step mother, than his father. That is truly sad. His whole career was a surprise to him. He was definitely not full of himself. You should watch the special made about his life and death. It has interviews w/Danny Bonaduce, personal friends, people in the industry that crapped on him, etc. Excellent and informative. Too many times people are judged only by their looks or simply by misguided perceptions through media (which we know is oh so reliable!), instead of facts from others that personally knew or worked with that individual. It is documented that he was actually shy. Find out facts first, then decide after considering ALL information. But really, watch the documentary/special. It is both sad and informative.
