It happens mostly with american flights because of the 9/11 ordeal. However, it also happens sometimes for overseas flights due to the long distance over... Seas. But mostly, you'll see this happen on American flights because of 9/11 though I think, as years pass, it's starting to decline in it's intensity

When I flew to Sri Lanka from Frankfurt there were not many Germans on the plain and nobody clapped. (This was the second time I flew with an airplane, before I was maybe four years old.) Then, when I came back from India to Germany, there were way more Germans and when we landed in Frankfurt, Most of them clapped. Weird people.

Sat next to an elderly person on a plane before. We shared similar interests and discussed differences too! It was crazy how we were in similar circumstances, even though we were at different spectrums of life. One thing that stuck with me was about how he regretted not marrying his gay friend back in 1989. He said that he was now happily married with a wife and kids, but never felt truly happy. He said that he never knew he was gay until they reunited in 2012 for a quick char over coffee. He died later in January 2013 and said that he never got over his death. This made me realise that I’m too fucking stupid and that I needed to find my own half. I found him when I was halfway through secondary school and we are inseparable. I’m thinking of proposing but I’m too scared.

The Idea behind clapping when the plane lands is that it takes a lot of time, effort and skill to fly an airplane. It's not like clapping for your server at like a restaurant. It's more like praising construction workers for a job well done. The Pilot successfully made your flight safe and swift, without crashing or catastrophe. I think that DOES deserve the round of applause instead of the dead silence that seems to be customary.

As a Dutch person, 1. I cringe a little everu time i hear an american say "stroopwafel" and 2. The ones they have on planes are meh at best. The ones in cheap grocery stores are better here (the brand I've seen in planes is actuallg the more expensive brand if im not mistaken). But if you as a stroopwafel fan ever find yourself in the Netherlands, find a stroopwafel stand at a market somewhere. Fresh stroopwafels are the best.

I did have a bit of a “bomb,” issue at the airport, actually. My mom and I have reflux and use baking soda capsules that sort of explode in your stomach after the coating is dissolved, and it counteracts the reflux. Well. Guess who wasn’t thinking about her surroundings and actually said, “Oh, Lady, did you forget the bombs?” A security dude nearly snapped his neck turning around, looking at me. I immediately wanted to melt INTO THE EARTH’S CORE. My charismatic mother put on the dazzle and explained. He asked how large these capsules are, saw the bottle, we were okay to go. Tested for bomb material residue on our hands, but they let us fly, and I don’t think I’m on a list. 🙈 Probably. 😅 I also had a distressing moment when I was wearing a heat wrap around my back and got patted down, she felt this thing with nodules of powder strapped to my waist and I remembered I had it on and, well, attempted to dissolve into the earth yet again. I don’t like flying. It makes me anxious, for some reason. 🙃
