I do insurance for a living, sounds like you have an individual plan. Price is way too high for someone your age. You may be able to pay less if you set up a group plan through your business. Contact a local VA broker and you could save some money. You do have to meet some participation requirements but it will save you on premium cost. Each state has slightly different rules but I think you will do better than $600 a month. Look into a high deductible plan and set up a HSA/HRA (Pre-Tax Health Savings Account, Health Reimbursement Accounts). The money rolls over if you don’t use it.

If your memory was a part of a Dual or Quad channel kit, they are made/guaranteed to work together. If a stick goes bad, switching out for a similar one (even within the same brand) is a crap shoot and may not work properly. Even if the PC boots, it may have issues or reduced performance. The stick you bought may be of the same speed, but the timings may be different. TLDR: Buy a new memory kit.

Maxx the cause to your ram not working is that the CL (latency) is different from each pairs of ram, make sure that the CL is the same and it should be fine :)

Memory sticks have to be same voltage as well and same clock speed. Its better to buy them in groups of 2 - 4. Also the channel thing needs to match up

I think I had a similar problem with the RAM. I'm sure I had like 4 slots (2A and 2B channel) the A slot didn't work so both had to go in the B slot. Try that

Also I'm not tech savvy myself, but those that are have told me you're supposed to always have your RAM match up in brand, memory, and speed. If you can return the one stick and buy another on amazon, I'd do that especially since I think you still have 16gb already so you the only thing that may slow down is your editing program when rendering

because you cannot interchange ram you need the same brand and type exactly for them to communicate with one another.

Answer for your computer. The brand of your RAM doesn't necessarily matter. You can use two different companies of RAM, although there are sometimes issues. Try to get RAM sticks of the same capacity and speeds. Also ensure they are both DDR4. Look at youre motherboard's manual and put the RAM in the recommended slots. The fact that they are different brands may be an issue but it is not likely. It is more likely that you were given a faulty RAM stick. RAM sticks are often defective.

What motherboard do you have in your PC? Your motherboard's support page on their website should provide a list of compatible RAM products. I would first check to make sure that your motherboard even supports the new specific stick you bought. It would seem like you should be able to replace your old one for a new 8GB, DDR4, 2400Mhz stick, but RAM compatibility is becoming an annoyance for a lot of certain PC builds.

I did a quick search of the X99A chipset version of MSI Godlike, and it doesn't appear to list Ballistix as a supported vendor for memory. I THINK this might very well be the issue. I also assumed that's the board you have, as the Z370 Godlike was just released within the last month. It could be something you could get to work by tweaking the RAM settings in BIOS, but your safest bet might be to just grab a new stick that you know is supported. Go to this link: us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/X99A-GODLIKE-GAMING#support-mem On the left under 'Product Service,' select 'Compatibility.' Then select 'Memory Support.' You'll find a list of all supported memory for your board with serial numbers.
