Things Are Getting Tougher Now...

Battle Rating 5.7 is the first time during my climb up the German tech tree where I find the games are getting much tougher. I don't yet have the experience at this BR to intuitively know where to shoot targets but I'm improving. Enjoy!

Failing to identify and to know where shoot a Jumbo is a canonical event for every new War Thunder player. It happened to everyone 😂

For the jumbo, the weak spots are the machine hull gun port and the lower sides (the lower sides can be penned from an large angle)

Two additional armor weaknesses to mention. The weld seams of the jumbo are also extremely weak, specifically the ones on the front corners. But more damningly, the front plate as a whole can be penned by most German guns if the jumbo is either unangled (which angling is what exposes the lower sides in between the track and main body beforementioned) or tilted lower compared to you, typically from it being at a lower elevation. Also to note is the Jumbo gun is extremely underpowered, and certainly cannot kill any armored opponent from the front in a single shot (notable exception is an unangled tiger, which can be shot while using APCR in an extremely specific spot above the drivers port to hit every important crew member in a single solid slug. This is an outlier, and should not be counted) Tigers and Panther specifically can only be hit through the gunner sight and cupola, one killing the driver and commander, and the other killing the commander and possibly the driver, though only if using APHE and even then highly unreliable. Stick with a teammate, and a Jumbo is no threat.

Advice: Look at all the other vehicles in the other tech trees that you could encounter. Look at their armours and it's weekpoints. It will take a lot of time and even more to get used to where to shoot what and be fast enough to do so, but it will pay off. I would also recommend a thing that you may not like but it worked for me and helped me climb and experience a lot, start new tech trees. This will take a lot of time, lot of energy but it will pay off since you will see how to play with different vehicles and how to counter your own ones when fighting against germany. When I got stuck at 7.0 USSR I went to germany and climbed up to 7.3 to understand how do I need to fight against my ,,own tank" and how the germans be countered. This happened by getting killed by more experienced players from other nations which basically showed me their strategies against different vehicles, then I mimiced them and used them when I was sitting in their tanks. Using many nations at once will make you a true Jack of all trades. Especially if you consider how german 5.3 and 5.7 is not the fastes and most manuverable, you will feel it being normal but as soon as you are in a t-34 (for example) you will feel the difference. This will grant you a sort of mixed strategie, where you can use basically anything with time and experience.

@@GibbyGav The American is quite a good ground tech tree up until top tier. You might've already noticed what a stabilizer can do in combat. This should help you, as a german player, to understand how to engage enemy American vehicles. They are usually more manuverable and versatile as well. USSR is more of an in between mix of Usa and Germany, you'll see tanks driving similar to Americans, but faster and lacking stabilizers but with big, hard punching guns like the german 88s.

​@@GibbyGav would recommend grinding French it is a pain but it helps with cross nation skills. In short the low tier will teach you how to survive head on conflicts and high tire will teach you how to avoid head on conflicts. if you just do 1.3 d2 and s 35 they can teach you how to use the environment to increase armor via side scraping front scraping or getting hull down. On top of having to use a terrible gun that needs good aim (and luck) which can teach how to find the weak points of enemies. And at higher tiers after the comfortable American lend lease tanks you can learn how to use speed and flaking to your advantage with the amx or ebr. although Italy can do that Too at 1.0 (Also used to be a German main but the d2 began my journey to becoming a French main)

5.7 germany is of my favorite lineups in the entire game , can take a bit to get used to it but once you get the hang of your vehicles you will demolish people , worst part about it is the teammate quality can be preeeeetty bad sometimes xD

it is unsolicited advice, however i recommend watching kill cams. It allows you to learn where your common weakspots are and how to hide them, its also usefull to see where most common weakspots on tanks are in general like commanders cupola, machinegun ports etc. Edit: Grammar

If you want to angle your Tiger NEVER retreat. Going reverse (especially on hills) is incredibly slow and you should instead go forward and right or left to angle the tank. The Panther should be looking directly on the target with its hull and in case you miss, just drive forward and move to left and right (in zigzags) to make it harder for the enemy to hit your cupola and other weakspots.

use HE for open top vehichles (like the Hellcat and AA), and some of your misses were because you do not wait for the gun to fully stabilise after stopping to shoot, waiting an extra second can sometimes save your life

I normally hear people talking badly about Waffentrager, but I think it might not be too bad for newer players cus it has a very strong cannon for the battle rating, so you dont really have to know where to aim. (regardless it still has slow mobility and terrible armour) So I think it would be best suited in a 'sniper' role.

The Sherman that is hard to kill in my experience the hull mg is a gamble with enough experience you can shoot his barrel or wiggle till he shoots you and shoot the cupola its a guarenteed kill with Pzgr shell on the tiger

Tip for the panther: the turret traverse is very bad, and the sides are only 40mm thick which allows your sides to be penetrated even from a steep angle. I recommend using it as a casemate and always point the turret forward, so you turn the thickest part of your armor towards the enemy. The main weakspot of your tank is the front of the turret, and not a lot of things will pen your hull front, although guns like the russian 152mm gun on the su-152 and the 122 on all the is-2 variants can pen your hull front and your turret front.

two things, you can pen the jumbo from the front aim for the machine gun, hitting it directly there will kill it, another thing for lightly armored vehicles like spaa use he shells, he is also incredibly effective against open top vehicle's

Best thing is to study armor penetration with vehicles on the opposing side with other nation around the BR. And also 1.0- above you iust in case the MM upteirs you to face scarier and heavier things. For example if you go to the USA tech tree, preview vehicle, and armor. There is penetration calculator. Most tanks though, the MG port is a weak point. But also sometimes its best recognize what you cant pen amd retreat or wait patiently for a prime opportunity.

Careful when going against Sherman jumbos, while it has a 75 gun, it has a fast reload, it’ll hit your muzzle, machine gun your tracks and just go to your sides to shoot. Also most Sherman jumbos will use bushes to cover the gun port. The best bet is be aware and be calm when you see a jumbo.

As a War Thunder veteran who played since 2016 and have played with the best War Thunder players, I can tell that you are pretty good and you have a lot of potential. Since protection analysis was introduced is easier to understand weakspots. Also the game and the meta keeps shifting while you play different BRs. As rule of thumb if you are not sure or struggling to pen someone then just go for the barrel and if you can't just disengage and relocate. One of the most underrated but most important skills of the game is awareness, check how the game is flowing, what your teammates are fighting, where they are dying and what are they dying. Enjoy the ride, don't take the game too seriously. If you see yourself struggling take brakes and play whatever you feel more comfortable with. I honestly avoided the Panther D because it just doesn't fit my play style, i would rather play the pz 4(70).

tip for the Tiger, use the "Pzgr" round, it has 10 mm less pen but you will one shot anything as long as you pen i still do recommend carrying some Pzgr 39 and 40 for "just in case" and about the Waffentrager, you want to avoid aiming your gun over those protrusions on the front for driver and commander, it will just kill your gun depression so try to avoid aiming over it (I'd recommend just playing the Nashorn instead since it's the same cannon but you get two machine guns, not the most useful since they don't have very good constraints and you only get 5 degrees of gun depression on the main cannon, but atleast the whole thing is faster)

You can angle the panthers, just turn until your barrel reaches the inside corner of your track any more past that though you would be over angling

Well, the german line up at 5.7 is quite something. The best tip i can give you, if you get a long distance map always pick the panther and never angle, not even a bit. If enemys get too close you can later wiggle your turrets with the new panthers, aka Panther A. If you get a city map on the other hand, pick the Tiger, its great to rush and flank enemies, try to push corners angled, it will lead to some people panic shooting your angled plate. Also, use the Panzergranate, pzgr on the tiger, not the pzgr 39, it is way better, a true one shot wonder. I hope i was able to help you a little bit. If you need help with anything dont mind asking. A usefull tip is to go into the Protection Analysis and look at the tanks you're facing. It will be much easier for you to get kills if you know the enemies armor. You can use the Protection Map to see where you can pen other tanks. And also one more thing. DON'T ANGLE in the Panther, especially against Soviet tanks because their angle pen is really good and the Panther only has 40mm on the side.

Pro tip with the panther vs jumbo: shoot manlet (i wouldnt rely on this) turret ring or under the manlet, or hit the cupola, cupola shot works with the Tiger I as well, also use panther D like a TD, at range

5.7 is a very strong br for Germany Imo 2nd to 3.7 id recommend spawning in the wafintrager 1st as there are fewer plains and spaa at the start if possible poke the rear out of cover to shoot while protecting the front the panther has very good frontal armor but poor side armor be carful not to expose side armor the tigers front armor is actually woes then the panther because of the flat lower front plate but it can be made to work if angled id recommend trying to get the outwind 2 this lineup. it has a slow traverse but great sustained firepower

5.7 Germany is mid IMO. 6.0 is one of the best lineups in the game though. You get three great Panthers and the Tiger E which is way better than the h1 - fewer weakspots, better optics, no annoying smoke grenade launchers that interrupt your traverse, etc. And the best thing is you get fewer full uptiers so you are only facing up to 6.7 most of the time - same as when playing 5.7. A tip for the Waffentrager though: it's an underrated tank imo, but you usually want to reverse to your sniping spot - means your traverse isn't interrupted by those hatch things and your arse is full of empty space unlike your front which always results in your transmission/driver getting killed and you immobilised.

5.7 Germany is still solid. Wait until you get up to 6.7. The suffering won't end until you get to roughly 9.3-10.3. Absolutely the worst teams you could get, aside from top tier US mains. The joke I had with my friends back then was the German team could have everything going for them, and they would still find a way to lose the battle.

something think that gaijin should at least do with the brs is change it so you can only face .7 br spread instead of 1.0 which we have. so 7.0 would face 7.7 but not 8.0 and so on. for all vehicles not just tanks but for ships and aircraft as well. what ya think?

Tip: Don't use the Waffenträger, its mobility is awful and its gun power isn't the greatest. Instead I'd opt for the Nashorn as its generally superior, however, once you get the M109G, definitely switch to that, it's beautiful. Loving the videos, keep up the great work!

The tiger 1 isn't honestly as good as it used to be, angling isn't as effective as it used to be since most guns at 5.7 can just blast through its armor, at best you'll bounce sherman 75's and occasionally the 85 if you're lucky

Yeah, 5.7 is in a bit of a bad spot with the amaount of people playing 6.7 there is a lot of uptiers, however when you get to 6.7 (if you hadn't nade it already) the Tiger 2 H should be the first thing you go for, you can treat it similarly to a tiger but its bsst to cover the hull MG port as best you can because its the only part of the front plate most things can pen, the turret is relatively weak in comparison only being ~180mm so you have to be careful with that, good luck.

Game play advice for the Panthers from the guy who plays them too much: Angle about 20-25° only or not at all. 4:01 Against Jumbos you can pen their ufp (un-angled) on flat terrain about 300 meters out. If they are angled then shoot lower side. If you’re feeling lucky you can go for the turret ring as well, this only works for Panther, Tiger’s 88 is too risky, i’ve pulled it off once but not very consistent. Panther doesn’t have a reverse speed, so either hit every shot and be aggressive, or pray your team mates help and pop smoke, turn around and run away with that speed. Panther turret armor is not very good, you should wiggle them if you can, or hell wiggle the entire tank since the armor isn’t going to save you from everything. Comparisons and stuff from a guy who plays them too much: Panther D and VK has the speed, use this to play aggressive flanks and run away by turning around. Panther A, G are what you’d want to mainly use in most situations, A is nothing special, D with a better turret and cupola + mg, G has that chin armor. Panther F is the sniper variant, less turret armor since you don’t have the angled trolly part but trading for a rangefinder which gives you about a second or 2 range find with more accurate readings. Panther G and F has slightly better side armor.

sadly you will learn very quickly Germany gets up tiered the most in this game main reason i quit playing i started playing for the WWII tanks not the garbage that came after which is all you will fight at 6.7 7.0-7.7 all tanks made to kill German heavy tanks and Russian Baise is a thing full side shot a IS 4 and no pin they 1 hit me though front plate head on over 1000 meters away and i have done it myself with 4.0 Russian tanks vs 5.7 German heavy tanks t34 never in all of WWII pinned a German heavy from the front this game no problem xD

Tiger E/H1 suck you should play Panthers most of the time you will have better penning shell and much better armor. You can easily murder Jumbos by shooting anywhere with Panther (G is the best)
