Beginner here, this is my first season, I just financed a bike too and 100% don’t recommend it even though I got a halfway decent deal. Picked up a 24’ ninja 650 at $500 under msrp out the door with no dealer fees except $150 dmv fee at 5.95%. Insurance is only $15 a month. My buddy got his first bike financed as well and got raked over the coals…..base price on his bike was a little over 9k and paid $11.5k out the door at 11% interest and his insurance is $160 a month 🤢 and he’s dropped his already 😬 luckily I haven’t dropped mine but already have frame sliders just in case. If you’re in your early twenties 100% DO NOT finance a motorcycle, buy a cheap one in cash and start working on your finances. I’m 32 with a plus credit, my buddy is 24 with ok credit and a bad driving record so his monthly cost on a bike could have got him a nice used car…..not smart. I usually don’t even finance cars, been driving the same used car for 10 years paid off since the day I got it so financing a bike was way out of character for me. Finance a car or house if you must but financing a bike is a bad move, it’s a toy in all reality and financing hobbies is never a good idea….that being said I plan on financing a zx10 in the next two years 😂

I buy beaters that dont run off of marketplace and fix them up. and while its great for not dropping a lump of cash, I hate to say it but it really leaves something to be desired. my first bike was a 02 ex500 that I rebuilt and rode for about 3 months before I bought a stretched 02 cbr 954rr. that was about the best bike I bought. unfortunately due to covid and job loss I had to sell it, so about a year and a half ago I bought a 97 cbr900rr. all of these bikes for less than 1000, and maybe 500$ in parts and a few weeks of labor. like I said, great cost wise, but im at the point where I really want something fuel injected, with electronic features, modern amenities, and body shape, and something that doesn't look like its been through world war 2. But with the economy the way it is I truly dont have the spare cash to throw around like that, and im not going to spend any kind of money on something I dont truly want, which would be a zx10r, or a cbr1000, or a r1. and those come with hefty price tags. I make good money, and a buddy and myself are starting a motorcycle repair shop, but until we start getting regular business and the economy shapes up, it just isn't happening lmao.

From what I hear, it’s hard to negotiate the price but it’s easier to negotiate free oil change for a year or 2 or you buy mods and they’ll install it for free. Have ya’ll done this?
@merweasel6 ай бұрын
I've done the free oil change thing but I haven't tried the mods. I'm definitely trying that next time lol but yeah negotiating is pretty much impossible unless it's a previous year model left over

I get what you guys are saying don’t finance and buy used. But I’m no mechanic and yes I need to learn to work on bike if I want to ride. This will be my first bike I just wanna ride without having to worry about anything other then learning. I plan on getting r7 really wanted a 600 but understand it might be a bit much. I make decent money 1700 every 2 weeks I still live with my mom and I have very little bills and I am trying to build credit currently 715. I Plan on putting 5k down and paying the rest off within and year. I wouldn’t be paying to much in interest 800-1200$. I just want honest thoughts and opinions on what I plan to do. If I was to get a used bike for 6-8k it’s gonna be a 600. My first car I ever bought isn’t what I wanted I love it but it was more of a necessity for my family than something I wanted and I will never buy something I don’t 100% want again. It’s either r7 or r6 08+ only 2 bikes I want to start on.
@merweasel6 ай бұрын
I mean if you're going to only finance it for a year that's not too bad then. Plus the r7s will probably hold their value pretty decently. You could always look for a used r7 and safe a thousand dollars or more plus you wouldn't pay for shipping fees, just look for low miles. I say financing isn't anyways great but I financed a lot of bikes to build credit and because of that we're now building a house.

After 9 months, you'll have a bit over 5.5k. Still being in school, a 125cc motorcycle would be ideal and show parents you're not planning to buy anything needlessly silly. Also, buy up a Shoei or HJC that has DOT *and* ECE while you can from RevZilla. The RPHA 12 is DOT only, the Shoei Neotec 3 is DOT only, no idea if the new Shoei RF will be DOT only. Seems companies are sacrificing people's safety for profits, with FIM being the new certification on the block, they are less inclined to ECE certify American models, and just push FIM Certified helmet sales. Scorpion AT960 and Sedici Strada 3 (the base version, not the Primo version unless ya need a helmet also for car rally racing) are my personal picks that are still guaranteed to be in stock. Also, from someone who no longer has a functional right ankle after a drunkard ran me over, be sure to buy full height boots. I'd be amputated today if it weren't for full-height boots. I wear Alpinestars Tech 7's, but any sturdy boot will do. I can vouch for Tech 7's though. Also for gloves, look at Held if you have bigger (like L or XL in plastic food service gloves) hands, Alpinestars or anyone makes decent gloves at average sizes. Jacket/Pants, Rev'It makes good stuff, if you're Big And Tall kinda person, skip Rev'It pants, if you have a very long sleeve Rev'It might come 1 inch short on cuff, but that's not an issue if you use gauntlet gloves. If you're tall, go to Klim for your pants. Be safe brother. Just don't forget to buy gear.

Thank you! I always like new safety advice. Unfortunately where I live it's illegal to pull beside cars at stops. What I normally do is give myself room to pull between cars in an emergency situation and make sure to watch my mirrors.
@MotoDash11006 ай бұрын
@merweasel I don't think he's talking about beside, as much as just off to the side. So if car is stopped blocking lane position 1 and 2, you sit at lane position 3. So that if car gets rear ended, you wouldn't be is the idea.
