I worked magiccon Las Vegas this as a laborer. I got a pass and stood in line to get this card. They gave this card out but said it would not be reproduced. They said if the new card is reproduced, the art would be different. So you can get a dr strange card with same things but it won’t be the con card

Just to make the point from the MtG side: All 5 hero cards are totally unique, never printed. The other 4 cards in each set are reprints of pre-existing magic cards with new marvel artwork. However, some of these cards are already very valuable in just their standard printing. For example, Commander's Plate (Reprinted as Iron Man's Armor) is a $35 card on its own. These are going to sell very quickly.

I'm a bit of a lapsed Magic player, but let me see if this helps. Basically the Secret Lair superdrop just means that there are 5 "sets" you can get, one for each of the 5 heroes that were revealed. Each set comes with 5 cards: the hero card and 4 other cards. The other cards are actual, pre-existing Magic cards that are being presented here with alternate, Marvel-themed art. In some cases, they are even giving them alternate names to make them more relatable to the heroes that they are packaged with. Now I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the Spider-Man set that's coming out next year is a full set. This means that you will be able to buy typical packs that contain random cards from the set of varying rarities. It also means you will be able to go to Spider-Man MTG events like for sealed or draft. Drafting Spider-Man sounds super fun.

The Commanders are mechanically unique and licensing will prevent them from ever being reprinted.

Yeah they started doing these with Lord of the Rings and Dungeons and Dragons which are more thematically close to Magic the gathering but they have smaller releases for ones they think have less crossover appeal. For example they just recently did a Ghostbusters and Chucky for Halloween season.

Personally, I would rather have someone try to bring back the original VS System TCG from the 2000s. Trying to cram Marvel into MTG just doesn't feel right.

Longtime magic player here, my channel is dedicated to MTG too. Do not buy these from WOTC directly. Wait until they hit secondary market. However, most of the stuff on eBay you shouldn’t buy either, as it’s all scalpers or thieves who stole them from the printing warehouses.

This is absolutely horrible advice. "Don't buy directly or through eBay?" Ok, buddy. Looking at just the Iron Man SL. Inventors Fair has crept up to a $15 card and Commander's Plate is at $35. The market has decided that the floor value of just two cards in this SL is $50, and WotC is selling it for $40. Buying direct is the cheapest you're going to get it.

What are you talking about?! People are excited is because this a set where EVERY single card is in sync with the commander. That is what people are really excited about. Most of the time we were paying $30-$40 for 2 good cards and 2 horrible or random cards. However Wizards of the Coast is feeling greedy they are jacking up the price to $40-$50 and if you buy 5 secret lairs you get Arcane Signet but it is renamed "Earth's Mightiest Emblem". Now this time if you want to Have Iron Man as your commander, now every single card is perfect for the commander. EVEN THE TOKEN IS ON POINT. I sold the Counterspell for $250, I hope I can buy it back someday. Clearly you don't play MTG.... It's fine. We don't judge you.

Good to see at least one other person who understands that the value of the IM secret lair alone is like $55, without accounting for the actual commander. I think WotC is generally sleazy, but these are great products.

They're a limited run, although Magic the Gathering products typically don't appreciate dramatically in value unless Hasbro accidentally doesn't make enough. If they were Pokemon cards people would trample each other to death in stores trying to buy them.
