@@harmondraws Self-control and free will are two separate things. The "no free will" argument is solid.
@harmondraws2 жыл бұрын
@@mercurial-mons when we are asking this question people seem to only have two options, %100 free will, or %100 no free will, as if it can be only one or the other. I think free will comes into play by the individual at different rates. If we compare the will of a human to a lower being like a dog or cat, most people would think we have more control of our desires and actions. I honestly would assume you must not have much experience in discipline to assume humans have no free will. To even have this debate i think we'd have to narrow down what exactly humans dont have the free will to do, because from my perspective humans can go on fasts, in meditation you can control your thoughts (to a degree),
@phaneron2 жыл бұрын
@@harmondraws interesting assumption, do you feel like you were compelled to respond? Could you simply refuse your desire to openly retort? Is this your default action when approached with a conflicting opinion? Is it possible to act against that nature? 😉 I'm not here for a debate tho. I just thought it was an interesting ramble
@harmondraws2 жыл бұрын
@delocalizingMayfly if you have no self control you're basically living like an intelligent dog, i practice certain disciplines, fasting, meditation, nofap.. ect. Imo this is the only life you'll live, id like to be aware of everything. My best comparison off the top of my head is like going to your favorite amusement park with crazy rides, but the entire time you're halfway asleep, or maybe drunk, even while on the giant roller coaster, but the truth is the amusement park is actually you're entire life and you have the choice to stay asleep or wake up and notice every detail, because honestly if you're living this life asleep you might as well be dead

You think about free will by talking about it with other people. Extroverts will bounce off of each other all the time, get a couple invested extroverts with charged phones and next thing you know it's 3 in the morning, one is having a minor existential crisis while the other is laughing at a meme someone sent them while waiting for the cake they decided to bake midway through the detour through the concept of consciousness that came after the idea of determinism by itself hit its inevitable end.
