But are the awards his legacy, or is it the work? And if it’s the latter, isn’t it really relegated to what he did from ‘62-‘67? Tolstoy never won a Nobel. Ginsberg never won a Pulitzer. Ellington never won an Oscar. The Grammys have only been *around* since 1959. The legend comes from the work. The awards are strictly television.

I think Bjork should have won the Oscar that year. She's an amazing singer and songwriter. Also, I would nominate Madonna and her brilliant song Time Stood Still (from The Next Best Thing). Yes, the movie was weak but its soundtrack was fantastic and so emotional Same with LeAnn Rimes' Can't Fight the Moonlight (theme from Coyote Ugly).

I do like My Funny Friend And Me but I think this should've been nominated and won: From Rugrats In Paris: The Movie I Want A Mom That Will Last Forever Music and Lyrics by Mark Mothersbaugh and Cyndi Lauper
@poohgaze23383 жыл бұрын
Same here. I think it may be that campaigning regulations allow studios to send music branch members CDs of Original Song submissions so that they don't have to watch the actual films while voting on nominations may have hurt its chances because they missed why the song is so important in context (let's face it, Academy members were less likely to watch Rugrats in Paris as a whole than Wonder Boys, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, or even The Emperor's New Groove). Also I can't really begrudge the win for "Things Have Changed". And, on the "Rugrats in Paris" topic, "When You Love" from the same film, while not the better song than "I Want a Mom", does more fit the Oscar-bait-soundtrack-ballad category and excels at that, being a little more upbeat than most in that genre, boasting gorgeous vocals from Sinéad O'Connor, and actually finding a meaningful context bookending the film unlike most such songs that just get shoved to the end credits. Oh, and what really makes the what-ifs for Rugrats in Paris interesting is that Cyndi Lauper now only needs an Oscar to complete her EGOT.

They were all good candidates. That’s why they were all nominated. And you’ll get a lot of different opinions on the “best,” which is all well and good. I liked Dylan’s song the best. Besides its spooky driving beat and a sound that is Dylan’s very own - honky took Americana performed by great musicians feeding off each other - the lyrics were Dylanesque in the best sense. “Don’t turn a blind eye to human nature” indeed. I do not belittle Sting and Björk by any means. Both are singular artists.
