Hey Kemi - I've been in Winnipeg for 43 years, came from England. Winnipeg winters are something I've never got used to! Pothole season has got worse because the city doesn't put in as much effort as they used to. You're right about the pace of life too - coming from London it was hard to adjust at first. You should try Winnipeg Beach if you haven't already. I'm very glad you're here. Lovely channel.

Winnipeg's a funny place and people either love it or they hate it. Personally, I love it. If anything, life is too good here. It makes us act lazy (even though we're not lazy at all!). There's a good song you might enjoy that describes the Winnipeg mindset. It's called "One Great City" by a local band called "The Weakerthans" and it's about the sense of ennui someone is feeling during the bus commute home. The chorus is "I HATE Winnipeg".

All good points! When we moved from Toronto to Wpg, we had many similar impressions. We need more people from Lagos to increase the energy! I would love to see people dancing in the streets! I'll be the first one to jump up and join. I love how you are saying "sorry" for so many points. I guess you've acclimatized? Also, thank you for volunteering. Keep up these wonderful videos!

Hi Kemi, weldone and good job as always. However some things highlighted about Winnipeg is not peculiar to Winnipeg alone. From research, you find other provinces with same negatives. You cannot compare the huzzling and buzzling in Ontario and Toronto with smaller provinces....the crime in Winnipeg downtown happens in so many other provinces .....so is the mosquitoes, it cuts across the whole of Canada. Research shows it all. We can not have it perfect any where but anywhere we find ourselves, we move...
@TheKemi-ingWay
@TheKemi-ingWay Жыл бұрын
Yes Rachel. Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it 😁👍I am sure this issues are common in other provinces. I was only speaking for Winnipeg which is where I am familiar with. Maybe when I move to another city and the same issues exist. I will still document and maybe even compare.

We went to a Winnipeg on vacation a few weeks ago. Life there reminded me of the pace of life in the 90s. It was a slow moving sleepie city. They did not even have freeways that I could see. They had these on and off ramps. My day consisted of going to the gym, taking the family to the zoo or museum, going to a mall, hanging out at a coffee shop with cats, having dinner and going to sleep. I did a week of this. Not a bad week.

I live and I was born in Winnipeg. Winnipeg is not a bad city and people are generally nice like anywhere else. However I personally don’t enjoy living in Winnipeg. Apart from the Manitoba Museum there is very little to do. To make things worse it is very isolated (in an area bigger than Germany where cutting Winnipeg out there is only 700,000 residents) from any other major and even medium sized cities. The shopping malls are quite mediocre. Downtown is quite rough and is not the same as Toronto or Vancouver. I find the prairies boring and they are massive. They go 3,000 km all the way south to Texas and 1,000-1,300 km west to past Calgary and Edmonton. This makes very hard to get out to somewhere exciting.

Beach 3 hours? Isn't Winnipeg Beach about 1 hour max. But yeah. Winnipeg is not about night life. It's a city with a small town lifestyle. I think for your family this would be good. But then , when I get home I jump on my bicycle and ride for a while, or visit my friends. The buses are not reliable in Winnipeg. I was in Ottawa for many years and their system was quite good. But yeah, when I was in university it was problematic.

I am from the US and have never been to Canada but my adult children and I are looking forward to coming to Canada . I thought that it would be a good idea to look at the views from the people there as far as the good and the bad as well as tourism spots. Your video is Hilllllarious! I think the snow is very beautiful (my first time seeing snow was very exciting) and I can appreciate not living in a place where it is mostly steaming hot (heat and lots of humidity) as I am originally from Texas but I also understand how much of a shock the cold can be. Some Northern US states can go as low as 40 to 50 degree Fahrenheit below zero. Windstorms, blowing snow, sliding and gliding, even the vehicles can't always handle it; cars won't start due to bitter cold-kills car batteries. I like being up north but there are pros and cons to it and your description was so funny to me. I'm confident that I will love it when I visit Canada so I decided to watch the cons before the pros. Hilllarious.....😂😂😂😂

I hate Winnipeg but I have a good job so I cannot leave. Things I hate about Winnipeg - the weather. Winters can be brutal. The potholes - roads are full of portholes and the city just does band aid work fixing the roads. Taking public transportation in Winnipeg sucks. Its inefficient during rush hour times. There are too many drug addicts - people vaping and using drugs.

Winnipeg is the cheapest major city in Canada (tied with Edmonton) for home prices. Finding a job is easy. However be careful before moving here. Take into consideration what types of attractions and things to do interest you. If you move here and are bored it is hard to get out of the city as there is literally flat boring landscape and no major or medium sized cities for miles and miles. Attractions are fewer than other major Canadian cities and winters are really bad. If you have money and don’t mind paying more for buying/renting a home or apartment I recommend moving to somewhere like BC or Ontario. If you wanna save money I recommend Edmonton. It is much closer to the mountains and has more to do. But also consider that even though Edmonton’s winters aren’t as bad, unlike in Winnipeg snow and even snowstorms are capable of striking any season.

Vancouver is much, MUCH better than Winnipeg. The main pitfall about living in Vancouver though is the cost of living, but you get whay you pay for. I was in Vancouver back in October of 2022 for a few weeks, and it was much, much more vibrant, lively, and a happening city than Winnipeg. As for all the homeless people and drug users in downtown Vancouver, they are mostly all in the East Hastings area, but in Winnipeg, almost all of the bus shacks are lived in by the homeless and drug users, and the government doesnt seem to be doing much about this issue, which kind of sucks, because when its cold and raining outside, it would he nice to take refuge in a bus shack that is safe. Overall, Vancouver is much better than Winnipeg, as a person who was born and grew up in Winnipeg, I can honestly say, Winnipeg sux. That's just my opinion tho, but I hate it here, there are much bigger, better, and more interesting places to be in than cheap, boring, little Winnipeg. Great review tho, Cheers!

@jacekgarbowicz616
@jacekgarbowicz616 11 ай бұрын
@@deanbalboa Yes Winnipeg is definitely much cheaper place to buy a home or rent an apartment. Apart from that there isn’t really anything better about Winnipeg. Crime is actually higher in Winnipeg although most parts of the city are still generally safe. Just read the statistics. The main issue that makes Winnipeg worse than Vancouver and other major Canadian cities is boredom, isolation from other interesting cities and natural attractions, monotony, mediocrity, very cold winters, and a sleepy city vibe. The only high key attractions are the Manitoba Museum and the controversial Human Rights Museum. Vancouver has tons more high key attractions such as the Aquarium, Stanley Park, Anthropology Museum, Granville Island, Capilano Bridge, Science World, world class gardens and much more. It’s shopping malls are way nicer. Winnipeg has only 2 big city style shopping malls (Polo Park and Portage Place) and sadly both have got worse over the last 20 years, especially Portage Place. Portage Place was once a very nice mall with an IMAX and high shooting fountain geyser. The mall became rife with rough people and it is now a ghost town with IMAX (as well as most other businesses) gone and the fountain not working. Winnipeg’s geographical location also sucks big time. Let’s say you are tired of Winnipeg and want to take a brief trip somewhere exciting, ah ah, there is no getting out of Winnipeg unless you have a lot of money. If you want to live in a cheap major Canadian city, I would choose Edmonton or Calgary. More to see in the cities, they are relatively close to the Rocky Mountains, and there airports more international than local. I personally also find that when grief, sadness, or loneliness strikes, the lack of attractions and fun events as well as the isolation from fun places makes it worse as there is not much to help you reflect or distract you from it. Although nobody uses these terms, Winnipeg style boredom or Winnipeg style sadness will feel real for many who live or move here.
