Things I HATE About My Civic Sport Hatchback 2.0 Manual (2024 / 23)

After daily driving this car for 6+ months, I am here to share with you all the things that bother me about this car. These range from things I HATE, things i dislike, and things i think could be improved on. I also go over some quirky things about the car as well.
I understand this is a very long video, however if you are considering buying this car please hear out all my detailed thoughts!

​@NAUS2K I understand about people complaining about wiper cowl design. I've been looking at 2023-2025 Honda Pilot to buy very soon. So plenty of KZbins guy actually took back complaining the wipers hitting hood cowl was defective. We have a 2000 Acura 3.2TL sedan and 2007 Honda Ridgeline Pickup in family. The also each have this design. I remember in 1999 guys on internet complaining. Maybe Honda does it for aero dynamics reason. So we just purchased a 2024 Civic Hatchback Sport CVT 2.0 4ycyl in Luna Silver last Saturday 3/30/24. This is for family member to replace aged car. As said I myself will replace my aged Acura with 2025 Pilot Elite. It has somewhat seem design with wipers and cowl. Great looking Civic Hatchback you have.

Great video. I own a 2016 Civic touring sedan (10th gen) and have been researching the 11th gens somewhat looking into the future, and also leaning heavily towards a manual. I've owned several Hondas and I'm definitely a Honda guy as well. Just want to encourage you to keep doing these, I really appreciate how you are so informative and detailed. Your attention to small things that scream for better engineering such as the wiper issues, the gas tank door, and the console, etc... these are the secret things that only an owner as well spoken as yourself could reveal to the public. I also don't understand why there's no remote start on manuals as you explained. I think that a lot of these issues could've come down simply to cost, but we may never know. My gen 10 has some quirks as well and it's a CVT unfortunately, but out of all of the cars I've owned, it remains my favorite even with the quirks. Plus I don't mind tinkering here and there to improve this and that to my liking. The CVT actually performs quite well too, is very smooth and has had no issues in 7 years.🤞 Sorry so long here😂 Happy motoring! 🏁😎

Well written comment. I suspect that remote start on a manual transmission isn’t offered for safety. Of course if it’s in gear, and there is a sensor to know that it’s in gear and/or in neutral, it could inhibit engine start. However if the sensor has just failed, and the engine computer hasn’t yet diagnosed that it has failed, it would definitely be an immediate safety issue if it starts in gear…it will hit the car parked in front, the garage, or worst case a person. That’s my guess as to why it’s not offered, anyway.

As 23' hatchback manual owner I totally agree that the center console is steps backward in design, there is no way I can rest my elbow comfortably no matter how I tried it.

I bought the 2024 sport touring a few months ago and reasons I chose it was because of the cool functional dual exhaust and fog lights!! I don't really mind at all on those minor issues you've stated. Although I do agree with you. Still, it's okay for me. But yeah, the color I have is mauve pearl which makes it even more unique and sporty. It's just a fun car to drive especially when you have a turbo engine no doubt. All I can say is, I cannot love a human baby more than I love my sport touring lol

Thanks for the great video. I just purchased a ‘24 Sport with MT. Just over 500 miles on it at this point. I am just now learning about some of my dislikes. Your list is spot on, but none of them are deal breakers for me. One thing you didn’t mention that I have noticed is that the car will turn itself off. Twice I have stopped at the gas station with my kids in the car, and when I go back out the car has turned itself off. Probably because I had the keys in my pocket. It kind of defeats the purpose of having a key FOB. Right now it’s not a big deal, but in the middle of summer it won’t take long for the interior to start heating up. Additionally, I have heard an intermittent rattle. It’s only happened twice, but I hope to find the culprit soon. As a music lover I wish the speakers were slightly better. I will upgrade those soon. Picking up the mudguards and the rubber cargo mat from the dealership tomorrow. Please keep up with the great videos. Cheers!

I have a '24 Sport hatch 6MT as well and I don't think that has ever happened to me, granted I always turn the car off when I'm at the gas station since I will be filling up anyways. The only times when the car turns itself off is when I have the ON/OFF auto engine shutoff feature enabled and I'm completely stopped in neutral foot off the clutch and brake pedal depressed. I always have that feature tuned off and only turn it on if I know I'll be waiting in line for longer periods of time like on a busy drive thru or like when I go fill up at Costco.

@@anthonypassalacqua3169I actually found it today. It was located above and behind the recline handle on the front passenger seat. Just in front of the hinge where the seat folds there are two molded plastic pieces that were the source. I just placed some pressure from the top and it fixed it. If it returns I will seek a more permanent solution.

EXACTLY RIGHT on the wiper fluid spray method. Every time I use it, It always feels like the fluid is being blocked by wipers which are supposed to spray onto the windscreens. It made me feel fear that my windscreen will be scratched by dusts each time. And thanks for the tricks on how to get them to stand up.

Great video and hit on most of my complaints with the ST model. Only things to add - First I'm going to +1 the wiper, horn, play/pause, and camera notification complaints. Steering wheel developed a quiet spring ping sound when turning at certain speeds, Paint is really thin and chips easy, No option to have the brake hold stay on after shutdown, Front seat has a weird seam on the bottom rear and lower (lumbar?) bolster that can cause discomfort depending on the person (this isn't helped by the lack of lumbar control), For the ST model, the auto wipers can be annoying in certain conditions, it would have been nice to have Auto Low and Intermittent w/ speed control instead of Auto High + Low and "sensitivity", All in all I still like the car and think at MSRP it is the best option for a new vehicle with its practicality, features and good implementation of buttons instead of touchscreens. Realistically Honda could fix all of these problems and make a near perfect commuter at a great price.

I got a 2023 Sport Hatch 6MT two months ago and look forward to your videos about this vehicle. Most people are covering the touring trims so I'm happy you're covering the base trim. I feel I can trust you to let me know about things I need to watch out for with my vehicle, and any future maintenance issues that may come up, so please keep updating on your vehicle. I overall am loving the car (after having come from a used 2011 Buick Regal that I did not care for) and am really enjoying all the new little features these new vehicles have. I agree with a lot of your complaints, and some of your complaints I had no idea about and am glad to now know about as well so this is a pretty great, informational video for owners of this trim. I really dislike losing the freedom of my windshield mist for my wipers, because it can be annoying trying to properly clean my windshield while driving. It's something I can live with, but I agree with how you feel on them. Also very glad to know about how those wipers are going to need to be pulled before winter hits us. The hill assist always bugged me a bit, but once I decided to just start using the brake hold I haven't had to worry. Mildy inconvenient not being able to roll forward without disabling it, but it's fine. I actually love not worrying about a roll-back so that heavily outweighs the con for me. I'm surprised you didn't hate/mention the Idle-Stop feature though. If there is one thing I truly dislike about the vehicle, this is it. I guess it's not so much a vehicle-specific nag, since these are in most vehicles now due to the many eco regulations. I really hate having to make sure it's off every time I drive, though. I haven't driven a manual since my '94 Civic that I had almost a decade ago, so this idle-stop feature kept faking me out making me think I had stalled the vehicle, thereby causing me to actually stall the vehicle. Now, every time I drive I have to remember to de-activate it, which is somewhat of an annoyance. Otherwise, I see all your complaints and think they are valid. Coming from someone who has never owned a new vehicle until this one, I am just happy knowing that this is an extremely reliable vehicle that I can drive well past my payments. On a side note, I see you average ~31 MPG and am wondering if you have any more tips on that? I may need to go back and watch one of your driving videos again where you explain how you keep your MPG's high, but I was wondering what kinds of RPMs you're looking for, and what your overall driving style is to get that. I might still just have a new-car high and be flooring it way more than I should be, but I feel like I still try to drive conservatively and yet still average about 28-29 MPG at best. I may just be trying to have too much fun with the vehicle. I also do a fair amount of city driving - a commute to and from work which ups my MPG, and then a commute to and from my gym in the city which probably lowers it. Anyways, thanks for the video, and please keep updating on the vehicle. I'm no car expert so it's incredibly useful and comforting hearing you speak on the vehicle so that I know what I may need to keep an eye on.

First off , I really appreciate you taking the time to write out that comment! I’m glad you found the video helpful. I didn’t mention the idle stop because I think most new cars have it. The only civic that does not is the type R. I’ve gotten use to hitting the button every time I get in the car so it’s almost become a habit now. There are still times I forget to and it really catches me off guard. I don’t baby the car, I get on it quite a bit so 31 mph average over the cars life so far surprised me . I rarely do any highway driving but when I do I can get over 40mpg. I’ll do my best to keep everyone updated !

on the a spec integra (and presumably Si too) you can set auto start stop to turn off with drive modes, in individual, and sport, and its just an extra flick of a switch upon startup

You get 31 mph without highway driving?!? That's insane. You definitely gotta give us a full featuer video about how to you drive this thing, because I couldn't ever imagine getting such high mileage to the gallon. With this manual transmission, we only get an "Eco" mode, which just throttles our throttle. Basically we can either drive normally or drive with the eco. Either way, it's still just an extra flick like you say to cancel the idle-stop. It's just an annoyance when you forget, and since it's a manual you can get tripped up easily because it's off and it might make you think you stalled it if you aren't expecting it. There's actually a $100 kit you can install that will always shut it off upon start, but I'd rather not spend $100 to automatically press a button every time I drive. @@ShaiyanHossain

@@Hitsu123 its not an issue for me personally because i prefer to drive the car in individual whenever possible haha, because of the way ive set up the steering, throttle, and suspension. On the highway Ill use comfort sometimesvwhich does enable auto start stop, but when im off the highway, i switch back to individual. I do find it peculiar that the Type R/Integra Type S do not have auto start stop at all, even though they technically would be the most polluting of the Civics

I'm looking into buying a Sport Hatch MT6 myself, for no-turbo, no-DI goodness, before crazy laws take effect, so I really appreciate these videos. I might wrap the wiper arms with silicone tape or something to prevent accidental metal-to-metal touching.... A Subaru I had had an additional nozzle attached to the wiper to hit the eyesight camera area, but that was *in addition* to the regular nozzles. My current Fit EX MT6 w/ Honda-Sensing (very rare), which I will KEEP, has Hill Assist, and it works for Reverse gear also. I assume that is true for the Civic. It's strange how watching these videos make me love my Fit more (laugh). Manual HVAC controls, manual parking brake, no idle-stop, no weird wiper issues, completely separate tachometer, normal mechanical fuel door and fuel cap, and I can keep the damn headlights OFF!

Awesome video, man! I appreciate the transparent information as it really helps people know the truth you won't read online or at a dealership. I was shopping 11th gens (I own a CVT '20 sport touring hatch) lightly but I really wasn't impressed with the gutted features and higher price points so I'm keeping my 10th gen. Videos like this have only made my decision easier, but I also appreciate the advancements in the 11th gen like Honda sensing and the more subtle design language. I still will watch what you love because I really like the new civics even though I'm against buying one!

This is a real world usage review. Thank you so much for making it. I'm an old-fashion guy who is happy with a manual transmission and an AM/FM radio. I was excited about this model because it doesn't have a turbo. Now I'm thinking about maybe looking at a truck like the Frontier or a Mazda 3 with a manual. Why can't a car company just make a quality good old fashion car that handles well? I find all the tech so annoying.

I've had 4 civics in my life, the 1st was a 97 dx manual, 2nd 2005 Si, 3rd was a 2004 lx which my son is currently driving at 350,000km! Timing belts were the only big repairs. I currently own a 2010 exl manual. The first 3 civics I put well over 300,000 km before selling or giving to my kids. I've always done my own maintenance and being retired now and not racking up milage I once did (the 2010 only has 170,000km) so I will most likely keep this car for many more years. I've never purchased a new vehicle and wanted to do this one time. I researched and considered trading in my 8th gen to purchase the 11th gen hatchback manual as you did but as I compared I only grew to appreciate my 8th gen even more! Living now in the mountains in a very high snowfall area of Quebec I also realized that I do need an awd suv. I love Honda and looked at the new crv but I cannot do a cvt trans or a hybrid so in the end I decided to simply keep the 2010 civic and have ordered a 2024 Mazda cx-5. I wish I could get a new manual trans suv but it's not possible anymore. I do like the fact that Mazda so far does not make a cvt. I also own a 1999 miata, (manual of course) which I will also keep forever! Thank you for your very honest review of your new civic. I can tell you take pride in taking good care car of your cars as I do and it will last you a very long time.

Thank you for the comment! I absolutely loved my 2007 Si and 2010 LXS. Fantastic cars and were both more fun to drive than this new one, hopefully I’ll be making some minor tweaks to make this one more fun to drive, but it still doesn’t fix the majority of things I mention in this video.

I watched nearly all your videos on your 2022 Civic. I then purchased a 2023 Civic Sport manual in pearl white last week for 26k and could not be happier. If you commute long distance …the gas mileage is terrible. I average about 20 mpg and that is the same for the 1.5L turbo and the 2.0 L. Also, I guess if you have not had a previous version then you won’t know what you are missing from prior models

Careful what you wish for with the HVAC. Acura's has about 30 buttons. Also, my TSX has a similar push to open fuel door. I too prefer the release handle found in my 9th gen Civic. Great video!

I own the 2023 sport hatchback model as well. My only pet peeve is that it did not come with standard blindspot monitor and rear cross traffic alert or at the very least allow those features as add-on by the dealership. But still, I really love the car and very glad that I chose it.

I have 2019 Honda Accord Sport, 6 speed manual transmission. I see that your shift knob same as my on Accord. After 3 years shift knob started to fall apart, now I am looking to replace it. I believe your shift knob is going to have same fate. I googled it, and a lot of owners have same issue. And you are so right about gas tank door, I always have to lock my car before washing it, because it opens when I am running sponge over it. And thank you for the informative video!

I know what you mean my hill assist issues. I had my 2019 Subaru STI for only few weeks bought new when was on a hill. Let out the clutch too fast dues to not being used to the car and stalled. Problem the guy in the van behind me was taking off very aggressively when light changed and rear-ended by new car. Blamed myself but the guy behind me as well. I was very paranoid from then on. I have a 2006 BMW Z4 M Coupe bought new and never have had issue with hill assist. The hill assist on the new cars seem to hold too strong with the hill assist. Sorry for the long post! Nice video pointing out things that owners should be aware of.

I have no idea if there will be a 2025 refresh but I just assumed so . Honda always does something after 2-3 years of initial release. I’m surprised they didn’t make any changes to the 2024s as it is

@@NAUS2K I own 2003 Civic with a 5-speed manual transmission. This model was introduced in 2001 with the mid-cycle refresh in 2004. I believe Honda usually does a refresh on the 4th year of a cycle, so for the all-new 2022 model the refresh will come in the 2025 model year. Thanks for the great review!

Just subscribed. Thankyou for covering the what and why of things you think could be improved on this car. Knowing how satisfied you are with the car yet honestly pointing out issues that might have been overlooked or unnecessarily changed from previous gens is invaluable. I noticed a white HRV in the background. I have a 2017 manual HRV and was wondering, if your HRV is manual? If so, how does this new manual Civic compare to the manual HRV? Love my HRV. It has close to 100k and this civic sport hatchback seems like a perfect next (manual) vehicle. Not sure of the difference in ground clearance between the 2? But it looks like the civic is closer to the ground which is a slight concern. It almost seems, unfortunately, that it's illegal or against the law for manuals to be paired with AWD for some weird reason. Hard to find one other than the 2023 Crosstrek. These are all good things to know when considering this Civic! I have the same light annoyance in a Mazda3. Illuminating the neighbor’s house with intense Zenon lamps could be avoided if modern cars allowed us to just use PARKING lights to I dunno, park the car.

Before I got my 2023, platinum white pearl civic sport 6MT hatchback. My last civic was a tango red pearl 2008 EX5MT and I ran into pretty much every problem and things that you hate about yours with mine. I’m 6 foot and came from a CRV into my civic sport 6MT hatch and had both of the same armrest issues you mentioned, and the leg against the lower cubby issue. and the lack of cubbies and space. But I’m a bigger dude and I had forgotten how low the civic was especially coming from a CRV and it took a while for me to develop the swinging karate kick I needed to do to get in the car, but there was no easy getting out for me. It would’ve been easier to just hurl myself out onto the sidewalk. I didn’t have these problems with the CRZ I had before my CRV because of its long doors but it was just irritating and I ended up upgrading to a new accord ex that suits me better. Anyways, enjoy your civic and I’ll continue to watch your channel .

I don't have drinks in my car very often, but what I do have is front passengers who like to rest their arms on the armrest. My 9th, and 10th gen Si's both had enough space that you could shift while the passenger was resting their arm on the armrest with no problems. With this car, every single passenger I've had has been jabbed pretty hard by my elbow while downshifting after cruising for a while because they got comfortable and weren't expecting me to shove my elbow into their personal space. I know it's a manual and a lot of smaller cars have this problem too, but this car is bigger than both of the previous gen Civics I've owned, so I didn't think that would be an issue. Also, if you plug ANYTHING that isn't a phone cable into the USB/Power Adapter plug, your hand jams right into it every time you shift. I made the mistake of trying to charge a small rechargeable battery for a camera while driving and wound up yanking it out after slamming my hand into the charger 20 times in 5 minutes. I'd have no problem with all of this if it was a Type R and was focused more on performance than comfort and reliability, but for a more practical Civic with less than 200 HP, you'd think this would have been worked out. It seems like they only tested the ergonomics and driving comfortability of the automatic cars, and then just slapped manuals in some of them without driving them.

Everything you said is spot on. I guess in the end of the day we just need to be thankful we can still get a 6 speed manual car in this price range. Every part Honda redesigns for the manual cars takes away from profit so I understand that they would try to reuse as much as possible. It sucks for us who notice the flaws of things that don’t work on both though

I'm with you with the front wiper blades and especially the seatbelt warning! I have a CLA Merc and if l carry something reasonably heavy in the passenger seats. There is an annoying alarm that buzzes every 10 seconds or so. And l can't find a way of turning it off! Yes you can put the seatbelt on before you set off. But if you forget, or if what you have in the seat is too bulky. That isn't an option. Wiper blades the same. When washing l can only lift them slightly.

Only thing I'll add that might help is that (at least on ST trim) I can just press the volume knob in to "pause" the audio. It technically turns the audio off but it essentially pauses the music or podcast I am listening too. Its at least a little easier to hit a knob than a little button on the screen. But the steering wheel should really just have a pause/play button.

I’ve had my 24 ST 6MT for about 3 weeks now and took it in after 4 days for the hatch water issue, got it handled they re sealed all the back and haven’t had any issues with it at all since. Cup holder I actually enjoy for most drinks. Got a baby on the way so curious to see how the stroller will fit in there, as for the engine braking down hill I owned a 2020 brz prior and the difference between the two is night and day on the hills. And yea cruise control with no traffic is perfect but if the car even remotely notices someone infront of you even if they’re a distance away I feel it slow and brake almost as if it’s afraid to even chance getting near the car. As for the cars gauge cluster it seems like a lot of those issues you have with the trip meter and everything are fixed with the full digital cluster. Shame Honda put the easier cluster at a higher price point.

I have a 24 manual integra and the wipers drive me nuts too. The whole thing with having to slide them up to be able get them out of the way and don't get me started with the weird positioning of the water nozzles. Other than that I feel like this generation of Civic platform is amaizing. Honda really made it feel like a higher class of car with how substantial and refined it feels

Yeah the wipers are so impractical. Just realized another situation is using the sprayer to coat the windshield when there is a thin layer of ice on it warming up in the morning. In any other car you can do that and not move the wipers until it’s mostly unfrozen

I have a 2022 Hatch EXL and these are my issues. I have a tremendous amount of water is retains in the drivers side door sill, to the point where is pours out when I open the door. I also have a significant amount of interior rattles and creaks from the dash and ceiling which is surprising for honda fir and finish. Lastly, I often have interior moisture build up on the center bottom of the windshield. I concur the highlight issue is a pain but I've gotten around this by turning the dial to the parking lights option. Thanks for the great video!.

Just wanted to say thank you for detail and when you put into this. Finally replacing my 98 318ti manual. This is the only car that has captivated me. Manual, no direct injection, no turbo, versatile. Everything you pointed out would be annoying, but the reduced engine braking.. ugh!!. Lack of exhaust exit.... don't know why, but that's character lost imo. The headlights are the third. I am about to make a deal any day now. My concern is that the next generation civic will only be worse in terms of transmission offering, only forced induction, more automation, QC, etc. So considering that, i guess these are trivial complaints? I'm trying to convince myself that. Unfortunately can't test drive because these 6MT 2.0 Sport HBs are rare unicorns. Nice to see a veteran track junkie / club racer / gearhead do a deep dive like this. So helpful (despite me being even more undecided now, LOL)

I’m glad you appreciate how in depth I went here. With everything I said in this video I’m not convinced I would have changed my mind to buy it still. Every drive I still get excited for because it is still a fun car to drive. It’s just so watered down and SMOOTH compared to what I’m use to. It’s so smooth I agree character is lost. Though I still think it’s a gem and probably the only affordable car left that’s NA and manual with no direct injection. I recently purchased a pedal commander in hopes it would fix the weird throttle behavior, even though I was let down I learned a LOT about the stock throttle tuning. Check out the pedal commander review on my channel where I talk in depth about this. I believe getting Ktuner and getting a custom tune for the car will get its character back. Not necessarily chasing more HP, but just that responsiveness.

Complaints are valid. The washer fluid nozzle/spray design was something I immediately disliked. I bought my 11th Gen sport hatch right as pollen season kicked in and I was like wow what a shit design. Interested in hearing how the SI rear spring struts come out. I’d consider doing this. Man, I couldn’t agree more about the whole wiper thing. If your drivers window is open, you are going to wear a gallon of washer fluid too. The old spritz nozzles, you could finesse it on both side of the wiper blades. Also, the leak I have is apparently water getting in between the glass no well bonded to the hatch along the top. It happens when you drive in the rain. Coming from Subarus, oil changed were literally 10 minutes. I could reach drain plug without jacking the car up or anything. Not anymore! Honestly, so far those are the only things bugging me. The manual is sweet.

My main "worries" are quality control and the use of fabric for the arm rests. The center arm rest is easily replacable, but the ones on the doors a bit of a pain.

I MISS having the windshield wiper fluid deploy from on top of the hood, i always thought that was a great design on some of Honda's taller vehicles like the pilot and some of their trucks. Yeah, you get wiper fluid on the hood of your car but its such a good application. On some of those longer family trips id take in my 04 Honda pilots where wed be cruising 80 mph, it was nice to know that within seconds my field ot view would be dead clear because i could apply 3-4 coats of wiper fluid before turning them on.

Great video. From the comments so far it doesn't appear you'll get any angry feedback on the things that bother you. In fact, it looks like most people agree with you! I'm two weeks at into my ownership of a new Sport Touring hatch with 6MT. So far I love it, but I share some of your gripes. Windshield wipers: So glad you showed that you can move the wiper arms up in order to pull the blades them off the windshield. I tried pulling the driver's side arm upward one morning last week to scrape frost off the windshield and the arm hit the hood. Thankfully it didn't scratch the paint, but I can see that happening if someone else tries to pick up the wipers. Just a bad design in my opinion, and like the spray nozzles, Honda overthinking something as they often do. Front seat cupholders: No, they're not set deep enough. The aren't terrible, but they aren't great either. And not having a cover over them is kind of annoying. Since there isn't a ton of room in the center armrest, it would nice to have a cover over the cupholders for when you want to stash your phone, garage door opener, etc. out of sight when you're in a store for a few minutes. It would also dress up the interior a little more. Cargo room: This one surprised me a little. I came from a larger car, and found immediately the cargo area wasn't as deep front--to-rear as the trunk in my last car, and that's disappointing. With the Integra being a little longer, it should be deeper than the Civic hatch, but the Acura has a tall lip you have to get things over. So there's so trade-off between these two models, but overall I love having a hatchback again. Rev hang: This really bothered me at first, as I felt like it was limiting driving the car hard. But I've already adjusted to it, just shifting a little slower most of the time. Still, it stinks. I've owned several manual transmission cars, and this is the first I've had with rev hang. Leaking hatch: Yours is the second video I've seen that mentioned a leaking hatch. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll keep an eye out for this, but hopefully mine will be fine. Car off/sterero off: The last couple cars I owned, when you turned the car off the stereo would stay on, you could continue with a phone conversation via Bluetooth, and you could open and close the windows (and moonroof) until you opened a door. It's annoying the Civic doesn't have this capability. Rear suspension: You're right - it's way too soft, especially for a car with 'Sport' in its name. I'm fine with the ride quality, but the car pitches back and forth a lot during acceleration and braking. There's also a lot of body roll. I've mostly gotten used to the pitching, but the body roll has to go. I'll be upgrading the rear sway bar and links soon to fix this. I thought about coilovers, but I'm not looking to stiffen or lower the car. A rear sway bar will solve my biggest complaint about the car. One complaint from me I don't think you covered: HondaLink. Honda's app for your smartphone is pathetic. There is so little information provided on the app it's almost useless. And it is terrible at updating in real time. My car's info has not updated in four days, and shows a full tank and 724 miles on the odometer. In fact, I've got about half a tank and 900 miles on the car. Even clicking 'Refresh' on the app does absolutely nothing. I came from a Mercedes-Benz, whose app is terrific, though you do have to pay a subscription fee annually after the first year. Even my wife's Ford has a terrific app. It's disgraceful Honda's app is this bad. One additional complaint on the ST trim, and that's the lack of lumbar support. Not a deal-breaker, but pretty disappointing in the highest trim for a car that can and will be used as a grand tourer. Most of these complaint are really pretty minor. I don't know that the perfect car exists, and even with these annoyances the Civic hatchback is great. If I'd known these issues I'd probably still have bought this car. The pros certainly outweigh the cons!

I have the 23 Civic EXL hatchback (Turbo 1.5) and what I like least about it is the discomfort I experience on the knees when I rest them on the center console on the right or on the door panel on the left while driving. Either side is equally uncomfortable.

I couldn't agree with you more on your assessment of the 11th Gen. I had a 2018 1.5T Hatchback and then a 2021 Hatchback 1.5T Sport. ( I would do anything for my 2021 with low miles back) So I'll admit I'm still watching your video while I'm writing this so if I mention something you have already covered I apologize. After 6 months of driving this car 2500 mi I have many things about this car I dont like. First, as a repeat customer of the Civic Hatchback , I would expect the next generation of a car be AT LEAST as good as the previous version. Honda didn't do that in this case. They dumbed it down and took away several accessories from the previous version of the Sport. How about, where are the exhaust tips and the fog lights and the robust infotainment system? Why, when I flip my visor up does it come out of the clip? Come on HONDA, all you had to do was use the same one as the previous versions clip. I dont like the headlight switch function always on auto. You cant quickly flash your light at another driver. The 2.0 NA motor is gutless compared to the 1.5L T. and lets not talk about the 20 mpg terrible gas mileage ( which is worse then the 2021 Sport 1.5L T ). What next...oh. the ACC system sucks compared to the 2021. It's too aggressive at times and not aggressive enough at others. It waits too long to slow down and then jams on the brakes to slow down rather then sensing the car in front sooner and just decelerating slowly as you approach. Then, it waits too long to get started again after the car in front pulls away and then it hits the throttle hard to catch up and then hits the brakes hard again to stop when it catches up. Then there is the LAKS lane departure correction system. It also is too aggressive and I sometimes think that the car is going to change lanes for me. The 2021 Sport didn't have any of those issues They should have left it the way it was. Now, here are a few more complaints, the glove box is way smaller, the center console storage is too deep if you want to find anything and has this stupid little tray that gets knocked loose and spills anything in it if you are not very careful. Where did the extra space in the lower front of the console go Honda just eliminated it. The new honeycomb air vent grill sucks. You cant use any phone holder/charger that clips to the air vent fins anymore and I think it males the air volume louder. No spoiler/wing (s) anymore? What? Are you kidding me? Oh, here's one when I back up slowly and hit the brakes....I hear a clunk...like the calipers are shifting positions. The new windshields wiper sprayers suck. They don't distribute the water evenly like you said in your video. How about all that space behind the front map lights...a sunglass holder would have fit there just perfectly. Plenty of room. The functionality of the gauge cluster has been reduced and what the hell is with the half mechanical half digital thing. Here is where the 2023 does better then the 2021. It is easier to get out of the seat. It seems tp ride smoother (but that might be the Goodyear Eagles over the Continentals on the 2021. Rides smoother but handles worse. I know I'm forgetting a few thing that either I don't like, where poorly designed or poorly made. But, I think you get my point. I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO HAVE MY 2021 SPORT BACK. IT WAS THE MUCH BETTER CAR. SHAME ON YOU HONDA. MY NEXT CAR IS GONNA BE A TESLA.

I agree with a lot of these, but some don’t really bother me as much. The whole center console/cup holders are definitely a pain. Having a large coffee with a straw in there makes it extremely annoying to shift. A couple of things you didn’t mention that bother me are the Speed Limit warnings and the fact that I can’t put my music on the dash like I could with my 10th gen (I know the higher trims have the option). The Speed Limit warning distracts me enough that I’m constantly looking down thinking I have the turn signals on or something so I’m looking away from the road. The lack of an option to display my music on the dash means I have to use the screen, which means changing away from my navigation app, or use my cell phone, which again, means looking away from the road. I’m a new owner but these are some of the annoyances I've found in the past week. I still love the car though, and thanks for the wiper tips!

Wipers are a "wet arm" design..my dealer service has a "menu price" on wiper blades. I agree with your observations and comments for the most part. Have a low mileage 9th generation car..am getting ready for a sedan with CVT. Would prefer the responsive 5-speed torque converter type auto wirh my current car. My owner experience issues have been minimal..dry rotted belt mouldings, noisy climste control fan, etc. I attempt to keep up meticulous maint. care. .no mechanical problems. Replaced OE tires with a Continental Pro-Contact set which further sharpened up handling and dropped road noise considerably. A very dependable car. Replaced brake pads in front and dealer was adamant about about rotor teplacement. My braking was smooth, quiet and pulsation free. Had them polish rotors with crocus cloth and inspect caliper operation. Six months later new pads are silent and smooth..I did careful brake-in procedure however. First time I wanted to retain old car when I get new one. Think I will become a "two Honda" owner with one driver. This says a lot. Appreciate your detailed feature. Thanks!

Also, I recommend getting some lasfit weather active mats for the front and rear. They have a lot more coverage on the floor, and they're easier to clean. I am definitely subbing to your channel. I would prefer the NA 2.0 over the 1.5t for maintenance and reliability but it’s going to be interesting to see how the turbo holds up. I can’t really fault the car at anything else and it is super usable which I enjoy. coming from small performance cars, hitting the highway and cruising is a nice change of pace. I am wondering if you have remote start. If you leave your wipers up in maintenance mode or pulled up slightly. You remote start the car with the wipers pulled up away from the windshield for snow weather would the wipers rotate down and hit the hood...? Or would you have to clean and put the wipers dow before remote start. I bought a 2023 hrv this past april for my wife and i have to say the biggest thing we hate is the wiper spray is worthless for cleaning the windshield. I was actually looking at buying this same civic in white but opted for cvt for the remote start next weekend. I had a 2015 6mt 2.4 civic si coupe and traded it for hrv for our growing family. Boy do i miss it, just not the hill assist. It started making a weird noise everytime i pulled out.

Excellent video! Good point about not being able to turn lights off while driving. I've been in situations pulling up to a security gate at night where you are required to turn off headlights. Was just watching a Honda video where you can turn them off if power is on and car is in "Park" (CVT). The lever bounces back each time though. So first push forward turns them off. Second push forward turns them back on.

I have a 2013 Acura TSX 6spd manual. It's got low miles but I was still thinking of shopping for the Civic Sport Touring, the Acura Integra and the Mazda 3 Premium. The whole thing with the center console and the elbow/shifting position has me worried on the Civic and Integra. I'll definitely need to be aware of that when I eventually test drive these. If your rear blade is like my wife’s Prius, the service position requires you snap/slide back that little cover where arm pivots. It’ll slide back about a half inch and allow the arm to fully articulate upward. Just grab both sides with one hand, pinch and slide back. The cover stays captured on the unit when it’s slid back in the service position…

The rear wiper, you have to open the small cover at the end of the wiper for it to stand up right when doing cleaning or wiper change. Squeeze it from the sides and it should pop up. Underneath is the nut that secure the wiper to the motor.

My 22 also leaked on the trunk.. I had to go twice to the dealer because they could find it the first time.. The problem is caused by the rubber that goes right around the windshield and you should keep in mind they had to replace the whole trunk door and paint it because of this.. According to them it all comes assembled in one piece. Also my car now has some kind of yellow watermark very complicated to take off caused by the water they used to test it.. Also in case you dont know you can adjust the sensitive of the automatic headlights sensor.. And last thing i gotta disagree with you in the part of the suspension.. I think they did a great job, and the specs are on point, the grip on the curves is amazing

I've been looking to replace my 2013 Accord 6MT and the Civic was on the short list due to it having a manual transmission option. It's almost like Honda has sort of gone backwards with some of their design and manufacturing. I know it's a Civic and an economy car but these head scratching quirks/flaws just don't exist on previous models. The wiper & headlight stuff would really bug me long term, for sure. Great vid and information. I'll check Mazda but their MT options are also fading fast. Maybe I'll get a Versa!

That's really funny that the gearing isn't tight enough to remain in VTEC when upshifting, but is completely fine for the CVT since the RPM remains constant.

One more comment - My Hatch EXL has the ability to customize the left digital tach cluster screen so I can see my trip, fuel, and remaining mileage while still seeing the rev arm sweep over the numbers. This may be a software difference between the sport and EXL. Also, one of my biggest complaints is with the apple carplay. The volume is absolutely terrible and requires max volume to hear phone call. The sound will also blast when the call or text message comes in for a split second and then drops down to very low sound. This issue is only with carplay at the bluetooth call volume is normal.

What’s break in period, what do I do during that period, and first maintenance and timing?

break in is typically the first oil change/5000 miles. Maintenance could be anywhere from your first need to buy new tires. IMO if you have a warranty theres no theoretical limit to how long you should wait for maintenance. IMO its their way of getting you to not cost them anything post purchase....so consider that or how to utilize it to your advantage. Generally check up on tire wear...bc it could lead to issues with your alignment/suspension or even your brake/system or something that can be isolated/resolved by your dealer for a minimal cost to you if it happens to be an issue isolated to your car/design. During break in/1st oil change just try to avoid high revs/limiter especially. Try to keep engine temps/oil etc relatively manageable. Basically no hotrodding/hooning/hard pulls. Or drive exclusively in drive/eco mode vs sport to keep your gearing/differential also lighter on your engine. VS sport....if you do drive in sport mode dont be harsh on the gas...but also use the sport mode to engine break at times...imo it helps with the break in period. Sport mode offers a fair amount of engine breaking. Where you effectively let off throttle to slow the car down/control speed vs relying on breaks

Do the 2018-2021 Honda Civic Sport have these same issues? I currently have a 2007 Honda Civic, and it's still kicking and is pretty easy to manouever with both the wipers and the cup holder placement. I am falling in love with the Civic Sport line, but the issues you're bringing up are a concern to me, as far as getting comfortable during travel is concerned. Thank you for this video.

2018-21 civic sport do not have the issues mentioned here about wipers and cup holder placement. The center console on the 2016-21 civic's is like 2X+ bigger than this generation. If the tail end of the sedan & hatchbacks from the 10thgen civics were not so hideous, I would have strongly considered one
