I’ve always loved the feminine style (similar to Carrie Bradshaw’s) and it took me awhile to readjust my wardrobe to nowadays very popular masculine style. I only have few pieces. I couldn’t really fully embrace it, it feels a little too forced. I don’t understand the need to look like a man that seems to be so exciting and popular nowadays. It’s like going against your nature. Women in the past didn’t care about it too much, even the suits were very feminine. So, I like your decision to incorporate more dresses this year. Nice move 💖🤗

Lucine Khachatrian with me, strangely it's the opposite. I never felt confident in frilly, flowery, slinky or sweet, girly clothes. I always felt I was sort of cross-dressing (if that even makes sense since I'm a girl...!). When the trend became more structured cuts and oversizes, and colour palette more sober and dignified, I felt I was finally in my style element. I always found girly clothes to be too attention-seeking. But it's more than just that, if you look for example at a company's group photo with men and women, men blend in pleasantly but the women always stand out with their crazier colours and patterns, and yet they way they stand out does not usually reflect their status in the hierarchy of said group. Conversely it's the women in that group who dress with more sobriety that blend in with the men and hold a higher position in the actual group. I've always noticed this and I think there is a clear connection there between clothes, respect and achievement, basically the less gaudy one dresses the more seriously one is taken, the farther one goes. And this is true for everything, not just the work sphere. Just a thought.

I found in the beginning of the pandemic, I didn’t even want to get dressed, I was showering and going from one lounging outfit into another, then one day, I said enough, time to get dressed, put on make up, do hair, it has made a huge difference for me, I feel like me again. I miss going shopping, and I really miss dressing rooms, I lost 15 lbs during the pandemic, and at my goal, I need all new clothes, and find the stores don’t have much to choose from, and I need to try on since the weight loss, I have bought only to have to return after I try them on at home. I am also trying to change it up a little this year, I like to have a minimal closet, but want to buy some structured jackets, cardigans, few belts, and scarves, new jeans, are on my wish list

I love forever jewelry too! I recommend silver and gold for everyone, because I have heirloom pieces from my great - grandmother passed to my grandma and given to me throughout the years for various occasions like x-mas, b-days, etc. Also, I still have and wear jewelry which I'd been given when I was like 5 and all after. This way, now at 28 I have a lot of beautiful and meaningful silver and gold jewelry with a lot of memories. The downside of this is of course I am a little paranoid to lose something, because I don't want to lose something I have precious memories with.
@isabellem1945

Hello, you can usually have a necklace or bracelet fitted with an additional small safety chain, so that if the clasp opens, you will not lose it. I do not know if something exists for earrings, though. Just a thought. :-)
@alphazunitee
@alphazunitee 4 жыл бұрын
@@isabellem1945 Thank you for the suggestion :) I use public transport so for safety, after work I'm putting my gold pieces (if I'm wearing any) in a small pouch in my bag. I've heard stories of elderly ladies being robbed of delicate gold chains when they were exiting buses, so I'm taking precautions, since gold is more and more of value. I always care for my precious jewelry and go to a jeweler if something is wrong with any clasps. I'm mostly paranoid of losing stones and small zirconias from some pieces or rings and earrings.

I really liked seeing you in the Breton stripe shirt with the colorful scarf. SInce you are low contrast...hair, eyes,skin in similar tones I understand why you wear the colors you do in your main wardrobe pieces but a little pop of color like that keeps your style energized. Like you, I dressed conservatively in classics in my 30s bec I had a career that demanded it. I liked the classic style and shopped carefully as you do. Once I retired I tried bolder styles and colors and my style has been transitioning into more creative options but I do still love classics. I have feminized my classic blazers and slacks as you seem to be doing, fewer collared shirts except silk charmeuse and more soft blouses I have slowly collected in brighter colors. Years ago in my 30s, I began collecting two things and you seem to be on a similar path. Whenever I would travel, Europe especially but in the USA and Latin America as well, I would look for a silk scarf or piece of antique jewelry and now I have a lovely collection I wear often. Each piece reminds me of a village in France, or Mexico City, a Florida vacation, or a little shop in Scotland or the silver vaults in London etc. They give my more traditional,outfits a more unique look. My fav piece is,a tiny sterling vase pin that can hold a rosebud in water. My husband bought it for,me in my 30s on a trip bec he grew roses for me....we had 21 bushes so he would each morning more ask what I was going to wear to work and he would go outside to cut me a bud in a color that would look best. It became a workday tradition. I wore the rose all day on my suit or blazer lapel...it became my workday trademark and reminded me all day how much I was loved. Now in retirement in a tropical Latin country, he does the same but my rose goes into a silver budvase on my bedside table every morning.....

But may be you could start loosing weight slowly, and when you seeing results you can incorporate new items to your wardrobe. You don’t have to care about what people think or say, just set a goal and start working on it. I would like to recommend you a channel about feminine transformation: school of affluence, don’t get wrong by the name. Hey Max, As someone who is on the outer end of a 'super fat' I get what you mean about feeling like clothes look sloppy on your body. A big part of it, I think, is that plus size clothing is often not tailored to our bodies (we are all fat in slightly different places) and there isn't nearly as much choice as with straight size clothing, so finding something that fits well can be a challenge. Personally I love wearing dresses, they make ME feel pretty and feminine. And I find it's a lot easier to find a dress that fits well than a pair of paints that are well tailored to my body type. I usually buy most of my clothes online, because there are no actual stores around where I live that sell my size and the only thing that I have ever found in a thrift store that fit me, were scarfs and clothes I donated myself. But whether I shop in stores or online (especially when trying things on), I shop alone. I don't ask other people's opinion about my clothes, especially if they are fat-phobic. I want to know what I think, so I can find MY style, not somebody else's. It also sounds as if you are getting some comments from some very unsupportive (not to mention rude) people around you, to that I would like to say; f*ck them! It does not matter what you wear, as long as you feel comfortable. Wear that lipstick! Wear those clothes (or not, if you feel like it!)! If you stick to it I am sure they'll eventually stop making those comments because it has become the new normal for you to get dressed(up) and wear lipstick. And often people that are so unsupportive/fat-phobic will find something rude to say, no matter what you wear. There are some wonderful body positive people online (on Instagram for sure), I always enjoy seeing people of all shapes and sizes wearing clothes they love, even if their taste is different than mine. It helps to see you body type represented and looking confident and beautiful! I hope you'll find your style and that you will find some supportive people, that will root for you, no matter what size you are.

It is very hard to find clothes that fit right, I've got pretty much 1:1 waist to bust ratio. I have to wear seperates to break up my silhouette so I don't look pregnant. Start small by swapping hoodies for sweaters or cardigans and tennis shoes for leather booties or sandals. Even a skinny jean is better than leggings. It's true find your colors. Keep hair clean and simple. In time if you keep it up people will expect it of you.

Max I don’t know wat size you are and it’s none of my business but I’m a UK 14 (I think that’s a US 10) basically I’m on the small scale of plus-size. What I do when I’m feeling terrible is just loose and boho so I focus on fabrics like linen. How fabric sits is one of my biggest things. I don’t have one specific style but an easy formula I apply is shirt and jeans. But a good shirt. I have broad shoulders and am quite top heavy so a shirt that does up is important. Haha. Please please do go out wearing what you want. But feel comfortable. Your weight is your weight wether it goes up or down my best advice as someone who is quite insecure, don’t bother trying to make yourself look smaller, your size shouldn’t be a problem. The longer we perpetuate these standards the longer were fixed to abide by them. (I’m only making assumptions based on my experiences btw) I try not to have lumps and bumps showing as opposed to trying to look a dress size smaller. Wear what you like. Find fabrics that work. Always be comfortable or you’ll never like the way you look. Be comfortable in yourself (easier said) Good luck xxx

I totally disagree with you on that a jacket, scarf, and tailored Jean's and pants look like a costume. It looks more put together. I love Hermes scarfs with Jean's and a jacket or a crisp white shirt. Your new style looks girly but but stylish in my opinion. I do love your insights...great video

I’m so so excited to see this video of yours! And I feel I’d like to share with you that I connect more with you and your content as I find you softening over the years. I have always admired your style, but as a total dress fiend, as much as I love your classically leaned style, it was difficult for me to replicate / find commonality for my more voluptuous/muscular body type. I love softening my own style and vibe with silk dresses, and find pinks and reds inspiring to wear, though I have to say I fell in love with your content the more you explores that light blue and burgundy with your skin tone. They look so beautiful on you. I’d love to see more colours on you, and totally love your softer, more feminine look 🌹💖🌈. Happy new year, and I love your professional content (nice touch with the time stamps!) delivered with the best voice!!

So I’m a 30 year old woman but my mom and grandmother still love to give their opinion on what I should wear. They like it when I wear floral dresses and stuff like that. Even my friends compliment when I dress like that. But I feel most like myself in more sporty stuff or streamlined outfits. Not sure if I should if I should dress in the way that other people think I look good or the way I like it. At the moment I have a wardrobe that’s a mix of different styles and I’m trying to become more cohesive

I think it's really healthy, Audrey, to start thinking about the aging process in terms of your style. You're taking the long picture of your life as a stylish woman. I'm in my late fifties and I keep up with fabulously fashionable style icons-like, Style Crone, for example. My French grandma was very stylish until her nineties and she has always been my inspiration. Your forties are right around the corner, and it's good you're embracing getting mature. PS. I ordered some dresses online today- even before watching this video. That's why I keep up with you because we approach fashion similarly. Thanks, Audrey, keep up the great work!

I completely agree with you, Melissa. Also, that website is really really cool!!! Reminds me of the ABSOLUTELY beautiful and lovely Carmen Dell'Orefice as well as Daphne Selfe--both the oldest (and still stunning) supermodels ever, as well as Maye Musk, Helen Mirren, and Iris Apfel. They all have one thing in common--their own sense of style with a sharp solidified edge. They have all flawlessly executed amazing wardrobes over the years and used those outfits to convey youth and free spirit. Because of them, and because of Audrey's insight, I've been thinking more about what I want to convey in my 30's. So, thank you--Audrey!

Really liked this video! I’ve only recently started trying to minimize my wardrobe and become more intentional about my purchases, and I wondered if you’ve ever done a video reflecting on wardrobe purchase regrets? Sometimes when I end up not wearing something I bought I beat myself up about it, but it’s more productive to use those as learning experiences by reflecting on what drove me to buy it and why it didn’t end up working out for me. Just an idea that might be a helpful video for those of us starting out on this journey!

Your videos are so helpful in reminding me to have patience, patience, patience in finding the right pieces. I really pride myself on showing my style in unique ways, but that can get lost when you are drawn to a lot of masculine-leaning basics. I have been looking more and more at upscale, secondhand (sounds like an oxymoron) retailers, and that has been helpful in some cases, but I would love to hear more recommendations for stores and brands where you have gotten pieces you enjoy. Extra points if they are sustainably sourced!

Hi Audrey - I'm relatively new to your channel and I'm so glad I found it. I am 5'4" and 124lbs. in my late 50's. My style has always been traditional (i.e. Ralph Lauren) but I also add a few 'fun' pieces to it doesn't get stale, dowdy or old lady! I see you wear cropped pants. I don't know if cropped pants or flared jeans (as they are showing for spring) are appropriate for our body type. I'm not overweight at all but I am 5'4" and you said you were 5'3", so I'm wondering your thoughts on ankle pants, cropped pants and wide legged full length pants. With thanks,

I enjoy the look of a structured blazer but underneath I always button my collar shirts to the top with an ankle pant. That's my go-to for work. I love the idea of the tee(got rid of my graphic tees finally!) and jean so I've been thinking of bringing that back. I loved your video about the everlane brand. I'm in my early 30s but I still like to be young and sexy with a high rise jean and a crop. I'm tall and love to look sexy/chic/masculine/feminine but with an ethereal/1800s vibe in my leather items and makeup 🤷🏾‍♀️ what I discovered in my 30s? Coats! I'm so glad.

When you have the perfect figure like you do you can afford to be eclectic. When I buy clothes I'm always worried about how high my pants can come up on my waist and how long my tops can be to cover my stomach. A woman with an apple shape and a very large stomach with no hips or butt doesn't have unlimited choices in clothing, and it can be very frustrating. In summer I wear elastic waist palazzo pants and in winter I wear elastic waist knit pants from Chicos. In quarantine I'm wearing yoga pants with nice sweaters because it's still cold in New England.

I loved watching this video. Audrey, you are so good at what you do! Living in Phoenix is hot and dry. I started wearing dresses last year and people stop me continuously to ask about where I buy them. As a die hard jeans fan, I noticed immediately how much more feminine dresses look and feel and I've gotten the sense that many women are craving that style, but perhaps don't take the chance because maybe it's safer to stick to the status quo trends when sticking to a budget? So I like that you are talking about this. Just so you know, you still look great in the structured outfits, so I hope you don't quit them entirely.
