There used to be an article making the rounds titled, "30 Things You Shouldn't Wear After 30",and sometimes I feel like my entire existence is a rebuttal of that. Though since turning 40 I have had to revise my base makeup in particular. My complexion is actually damn good, but given the choice between embracing the oil spill I actually am and baking everything into place like a 50s housewife...just call me Exxon Valdez.

I have really oily skin too, so much so that in my youth, if it wasn't powder it would melt off my face in hours. Now that I'm getting older.... 40+, I'm drying out a little. I can now use cream products! I hardly ever washed my makeup off because chances were good it was just gone by the time I got home. Now though if I don't take care of my skin I get this weird combo of dry flaky with ultra shiny oily, like the worst of both types.
@DanielleSouthcott4 жыл бұрын
@@Kate-jk6pf I've considered it, haven't tried it. usually what I do is just set the places where I know my makeup will either crease or disintegrate, and use a super-light (but extortionately expensive) powder like Hourglass Veil. My undereyes and nose are the most stubborn areas - even with my oily skin, most foundation wears like iron on me.

It is because of my freckles that I look so much younger than I am. People my age don’t think I’m their age. I would gladly give my freckles to every person on the planet that wanted them. Recently I tried the Reface app and thought....I would look my age if I didn’t have all of these freckles. "The older you get the smaller your brushes become" omg I feel that! I love Japanese brushes but my biggest complaint when I was younger was how small they were (like cheek brushes barely bigger than what I'd consider a brush for highlighter) but now I'm always reaching for the smallest brushes in my collection. lol. I stopped using powder as much this year too. I'm basically in a transitional period right now switching up my application techniques to account for suddenly more hooded eyelids (and textured eyelids), drier undereyes, and a smile line that foundation tries to settle into.

@JessBritvec4 жыл бұрын
anotherlemontree don’t get me wrong, I have learned to be more precise with the details of my eye makeup, but I still like to blow it out a lot. Especially my lower lash line, cover up the under eye bags and darkness 😁. As far as blending up to my brow bone I think the whole hooded eye idea works too, your eyelids are going to start being less firm so placing your shadow farther up helps you 1:be able to see your crease shades and 2: make you lid space look bigger. I hate the whole brow bone highlight look (especially shimmery), I think having thicker brows has a much bigger impact on how old you look. I’m just more precise about where my lid shade and crease shade go, and how I do my inner corner, and the general shape of my eye look matters even more, even when it is super blown out.

I'm 48, and trying to blend eyeshadow is different because my eye skin is more soft and a bit droopy now, which is like trying to blend paint on a loose bed sheet 😄😂 the motion is more of a repeated pat and small swish rather than the windshield wiper. They're also more hooded and downturned, which makes it more of a challenge with blending, and I used to get so frustrated with it, but now I have a system that works, but there was a LOT of trial and error. I gave up setting powder 10 yrs ago, and now just use a setting spray because you're right, powder aged me so much! The main blessing I have is super oily skin, which keeps it looking more youthful than if it was dry, which I'm happy about. My skincare has really changed too. I keep it as simple as I can, but definitely use anti aging, skin firming/plumping everything which has been helpful, and am seeing good results with it. I've also found that having a bit more weight on helps even out my wrinkles a bit, so being a little plump helps with looking younger. 😄😂 Makeup and skin care certainly changes quite a bit with age!
@Raven-Winter4 жыл бұрын
I'm your age also ! I wasn't into skincare neither when I was younger, but I didn't use soap on my face. I only used a milk make up remover at night and a moisturizer in the morning, and that's all, until my late 20's. Until that time I was using a powder foundation with no problem which I cannot use anymore, I need a hydrating foundation and the smallest quantity of powder. But my skin is on the dryer side. I agree when you say we shouldn't use skincare if we don't need it, less is more. However wrinkles are not only due to genetic, but also by lifestyle and the sun exposure (as you also stated). So it is possible to prevent them to certain point by having a healthy lifestyle (no smoking etc), using suncreen, and also some cosmetics like retinoids (who are scientifically proven to be the most effective to reduce wrinkles), antioxydant, vitamine C etc.

Used stripping toners, full of alcohol, and never moisturise...because my skin was oily!!! Living in Australia I was always at the beach all summer, super tanned, most times without sunblock, in fact usually oils to burn faster. I am so thankful for my good genes genes!!! I have no idea how my skin survived until now. Only reason I started taking care was because all of a sudden my skin started getting dry...or so I thought...only to find out that I had completely damaged my skin barrier. Great vídeo Angie 👌🏻. I am 44 ys and I have the same issues with powders in my face (the less, better). However in the last years I was not setting my concealer, forehead, nose for that reason and I used to get greasy after a couple of hours. So I have had to learn to be more "gentle" using the powder. 34 ✋🏻 here! And I 100% agree with all, I use way less makeup on my face than 5 years ago, but I have very oily skin so I do use a little bit of powder, I have been very blessed with good aging genetics, but I find this video amazing and spot on.

So needed this. I’m a retired 51 yr old cosmetologist and miss being in the salon and being the fresh faced fashionista lol. Blessed to have good skin , but for sure things I just can not get away with anymore.

If I have anywhere near the same level of skill and unique, inspiring personality as you when I’m your age I’ll be one of the happiest people alive 😊

Yay 💗 !! Lol as I get older I seem to be getting more colorful and more sparkles 😏🌈 I give about zero 🦊 if people say I'm" too old for that " it makes me happy!! But definitely no more full coverage foundation and moisturizer is life lol. This was fun !!! Love you both 💞

I agree about less is more! I'm 53. Less foundation and only powder in my oily t-zone. But YES to the color. I don't care what's "appropriate" for my age.

I managed to get away with baking & hella lot of concealer when I was 28-29, but as soon as I hit 30, boom! 😂 I dont miss it though 😜

Totally agree with what you said. I never did anything to my face and used Neutrogena face soap then Cetaphil cleanser only my whole life. I started using moisturizer at age 35 and sunblock early thirties. I'm blessed with good skin and I agree that genetics plays a VERY BIG part. I'm thankful for good skin and I've upped my game to moisturizer, vitamin C serum and retinol.

I just found Theresa's channel a few days ago and she is hilarious. Yes small brushes are your friend.

I stopped using matte foundation except on my nose and I use very light amount of concealer if any. But I’ll never stop wearing color and glitter! I love it too much!

Angie, I loved this video. I use neutrogena face wash and gel moisturizer. You were 100% correct - Genetics. When I was 20, most people thought my mom and I were sisters. I hated it then but now that I am 50, it works out great! And my mom looks super young for 70 too!

Straight up Cryptkeeper! Thats me! For reals, I used to always sleep in my makeup. Sometimes I still do--but not on purpose. Was very late to the skincare game myself. No shame. Love u girl! 💙💚💛💜

Omg, I love you. As you were talking about how you used to remove your makeup with hand soap my jaw dropped.. the way you were reacting was equal to my reaction.. it was as if we were sitting as friends across from eachother

I'm 40 and yes, less is so much more...I'm starting to even love skin tints and oil tints like the Kosas more than regular foundations. I hate when foundations are heavier, they sink into my large pores (and yes kids, pores get larger as you age - I'm looking at you oily skin girls, your pores will unfortunately stretch) and make them much much worse. Other than that, I have zero wrinklage.
