You're better off getting a savannah. The further generation it is the easier. F3 or F4 savannah is much easier to care for than a pure serval. Having a pure African serval is crazy. Can't even imagine it but it seems like a dream. I'd prefer an F2 savannah myself.

Servals are actually less expensive than savannahs, which is the hybrid of the serval. An F1 savannah can run up to 35k, and a serval 5k. Like anything that looks beautiful, some people who should never own such an active and needy cat do, and inevitably, the feline suffers the ultimate price.

@prickly_procyonids Actually there is a massive difference between owning a dog or cat and owning a serval. Servals are WILD and NOT domesticated. There is ABSOLUTELY something wrong with wanting to own a wild animal that is not domesticated just for your own pleasure.
@kaylaread8048 Жыл бұрын
These are wild animals. They are very difficult. It’s not the same as a domestic cat or a dog. Humans have domesticate these animals thousands and thousands of years. Because these are animals you CAN domesticate … It's the same with farm animals. Not every animal can be domesticated equally well. You can domesticate Pigs, cattle, chickens, goats, sheeps on the other hand, you cannot domesticate zebras. Otherwise our ancestors would have done this. They weren't stupid. Our ancestors figured this out a long time ago. It depends on the species. I am absolutely not a fan. They are wild animals and therefore difficult to control. But now we have IG, KZbin and there you go - that's what it is. To be honest, these wild species shouldn’t not live in a living room. They need only nature. No humans. We do this because we are egoists. But that's just how we are. I love animals. And that's, why I haven’t one at all. ;)

Absolutely! Servils are NOT the same as owning domesticated cats/dogs! If you don't have a garden I wouldn't recommend getting an F3 or F4, but you can easily train them to go on walks with a leash. F5s dont need a garden, in fact many of the owners of F5s told me not to let them out into the garden. You can still train F5 savannahs though. I'm getting an F5 Savannah soon myself.

some stuff is a bit exaggerated. my vet does everything for the serval at the same price as for cats. food - house cats and servals evolved to eat same thing: rodents, birds and insects. So feeding serval and cats should be same, cheap cat food is no good for cats either, AND by the way same way for dogs. Some cane corso should also eat meat and something for fiber, and that's several times of what a serval can eat. Cat/dog food is processed grains/starch which is something neither felines nor canines supposed to eat (I will go further and say that humans shouldn't either, at least on daily basis). So you are supposed to spend on serval food about as much as on mid size dog. 30 years life span is probably like 100 years for a human - rare. food again - meat is not that super expensive, you can buy 50-100 LB at a time from a local butcher at a discounted price. Sam's Club has good prices on chicken too. Our serval eats just fine when we are away for a weekend. Activity, bonding, playing - that part is similar to having a dog. So essentially having a serval is more like having a dog in a feline body that lives twice longer

Denial.
@silverfox90048 ай бұрын
even if it's a little exaggerated, this video helps create a reality check to those unsuitable to own one who were thinking about getting one. the majority of humans wouldn't be good caretakers for a serval, but there's a few wonderful people like you who devote so much to bond with them. I especially love how many exotic pet caretakers record so many videos of them, giving everyone a chance to view the behavior of an incredible animal.
@antonioreconquistador7 ай бұрын
The food and medical issues arent really problems unless you dont have the money/coverage (or, no available vet for any reason.) There are a lot of animals that will look for their owners or food after a prolonged lack of care and supervision, which is why they should be housebroken with someone responsible in case of emergency/prolonged absence. I think the biggest problem with "exotic" pets is that they have heightened sexual and social pressure even if theyre neutered/spayed before puberty and raised around other animals of the same species as well as caring humans. They can definitely bond but they can become very distressed in a foreign environment and climate, with innate desires that may be as annoying to us as we are to them.

What's sad is all these laws and restrictions to own a wild animal which isn't a bad thing. But idiots blindly bringing kids into the world and screwing them up isn't illegal.

To all the idiots-harp on the true cruelty to animals that should be in nature preserves or in the wild that are trapped in zoos, please. I've watched all the shorts and then happen upon this. She is beautiful. What is ugly are these people and their comments/opinions. The same "what about the children" people who don't give a damn about the children and take to the "airwaves" to condemn you for showcasing a gorgeous cat that has every "right" to be in captivity. Also, if I had the space, I have the personality, lifestyle and means to own such a cat. I love Chloe, Greg ❤

Well a cats a cat. I will not leave my wee guy for any reason. No holiday can make me feel as good as he does and his previous life was shit so this one is going to be perfect! A tiny taby and big cat are equal.... Evrty cat is equal. Sending you our love xx

Hint .....thoroughly wash and dry a discarded toy then hide it for a few weeks . it should fool the cat into thinking its new. Works well with ferrets who only play with a toy a few times before getting bored.

Me and my fiance saw a wild bobcat while out hunting today. She had never seen one before but I have seen a few in my carrier. Uinta mountains in Utah. It was young and small still. As with all carnivore sightings it happened so fast that she couldn't even try to get a photo.

Also is she still alive!?just wondering very nice kitty, sweet kitty, you really need to understand their body language their hissing the whole works to know what they want, they will know what they want, takes time to adjust their wants and needs!

This is a great informative video. Hope Chloe is well. ❤❤ is the lady in the video a new partner? Chloe seems to be only tolerating her. We thank you both for showing the ups and the downs of adopting a serval into one’s home. ❤

You seem very dedicated to the health and well being of chloe but i do fear that people who arent as invested in their animals will see these videos on youtube and think they can just half ass it which leads to dangerous situations and animal neglect. 💔 the more you can emphasize the reality of owning an exotic pet the better. Im torn because i will never own such a beautiful animal and love seeing you adore chloe!

I don’t know why you guys (commenters) are so negative in these comments! Does Chloe look as if she’s not happy?? She’s well taken care of and happy, and probably being raised better than you’ve raised your children. If you don’t like what’s going on, go follow someone else!

Thank you for trying to make an informative post. Respectfully, all these reasons and more are why servals should not be pets. They should be left in the wild. I’ve studied this a lot, and there are actual physical, mental, brain and other significant differences in hormones, etc that mean servals, wolves, and other wild cats/dogs cannot fully adapt to domestic life. And it’s unfair to try to make them. You seem like you’re trying to make a good home, and I truly commend you for that. But please don’t encourage anyone to ever get servals, even if they’re “ok” with these things you mentioned. We have to respect these animals needs first. ❤️

How old was Chloe when you got her? And how long did it take for her to “mature/bond” with you? You didn’t mention any house training tips.

7 weeks old! Didn’t take long at all, only a few minutes and she was purring up a storm. Chloe’s special, she does well in a home! Some servals don’t, but I don’t have any experience with that.
