Just An Average Unicorn I always loved mine, makes me so sad that some people get bullied because of their hair colour, my hair was a very very unique shade of ginger it was very light; it was definitely ginger but I'm not a first generation ginger so the gene wasn't super strong, and I always had so many compliments on the unique shade. Well, thats a regular question for lots of colors, my hair was realy black, i used to be asked that a lot (at age 10!) Until it changed to a dark brown on my teen's. Syl K J No, the reason for my attitude is because of my constant run in with people who try to be friends with me because they feel bad and use me to make themselves feel better, growing their ego because they're "friends with a freak." I apologise for misunderstanding your comment. It's just that one bad apple really ruins the bunch. In high school, I was in show choir. At one of the competitions, a critique judge told me in front of the entire choir, band, and everyone that I should look into dyeing my hair blonde or brown because those are “natural” hair colors (I was the only redhead in my choir at the time). I was shocked, but luckily my director came to the rescue and told the judge that that comment was rude.

I'm scottish and both my parents carry the red hair gene and I have blonde hair with red undertones (which sometimes looks ginger in the sun) and I remember a complete stranger came up to me and had a full on argument with me about how they could tell I'm not a natural blonde because they can see the ginger coming through. When my husband was younger his hair was a lovely rust red. Due to a particularly traumatic event later on in life, most of the color faded and he's now 47 with decidedly blonde hair. I have quite the fetish for his many freckles and he thinks I am weird for it. I realize I am. I love red hair so much I once tried to get a friend to dye mine a nice natural looking red. She was in college for cosmetology and needed some points in hair dying (most colleges that have cosmetology will net you a much cheaper hair-styling/dye job if you are up for the risk as the students need real practice). Well, she refused to dye my hair red of all colors. She said it would make me washed out and pale. I told her I was already pale and I happen to like pale skin anyway so no harm done, but she ignored me and told me to pick something else out or else she had something planned for me. I told her it was my hair and I only wanted red or no dye at all. A few days later she told me her school "ran out" of all shades of red, and that I had to pick something else out anyway. I told her I'd just keep my brownish hair as is, thanks.

My husband refuses to ever dye his hair any shade of red. He prefers how blonde his hair has turned, and admits that he was bullied relentlessly for having red hair in school. As an aside, I have a family of regular customers who come in to the store I work in. Two grown women who are sisters, and their collective brood of children, all have the same shade of startlingly shiny red hair, almost orange and very pretty.
