It is 2021 and watching this now. And I remember this game giving a strong nostalgic feeling of youth and friendship. How our lives branch off after the carefree days of our summers together. IF ANYONE'S CURIOUS, HERE IS WHAT MAE DID AND WHY SHE'S KNOWN AS 'KILLER': Mae gained notoriety among the townsfolk after being involved in a violent episode at her school's softball match. Six years prior to the events of Night in the Woods, Mae experienced a sudden form of dissociation from the real world - which seemed like an acute episode of derealization. She saw objects and people as just meaningless shapes, and not really existing. She felt a deep sadness for everything around her, lamenting that nothing was there for her anymore and that everything was just "stuff in the universe." The next day at the softball match, a second episode occurred, something "broke inside her" and before she knew it, she was beating Andy Cullen's head in with a bat in front of the entire school. Following that, most parents told their children to stay away from Mae. By the events of Night in the Woods, most of the kids in town know Mae through the attack, nicknaming her "Killer". The incident put a strain on Mae's relationship with her family. Financially, the Borowski's went deep into debt trying to treat her. Mae was sent to Dr. Hank for treatment, where he prescribed keeping a journal as a means of keeping her emotions in check. Mae claims it helps her feel grounded with reality and that it works somewhat. She seemed to be doing alright until she left for college. There, the effects of dissociation seemed to intensify and Mae never made a single friend at college because she was terrified of leaving her room. She was left starving or else downing entire pizzas in one go. She drank cough syrup just to sleep and forget about her living nightmare. Mae was especially terrified of the rusty statue of the founder outside her window: always a mess of shapes watching and pointing down at her. She felt too scared to phone anyone for help. After three semesters, Mae finally mustered up the courage to leave and return to the safety of home, where things weren't just "dead shapes."

I have returned to this series so many times over the last 3 years to help me sleep when my anxiety and insomnia is too high to be able to. It is so relaxing for me, and having grown up in a small town it is so nostalgic for me. Well. I am stuck back in that small town again. And I just got fired from a job. It sounds dumb but I feel so shitty right now. And as I lay here trying to sleep, I just wanted to say thank you again Jack. For being you. Because my mind won't shut up, so I find myself back at this playthrough again for comfort and help sleeping. Your videos have helped me through many bad days and nights. Given me so many smiles and laughs. So much comfort. I have sensory issues too, but your voice scratches a part of my brain that not everyone's will. So I am able to listen for extended periods and not hate it. I swear and promise this is a compliment. On top of that your commentary is so funny and engaging. Your thoughts are unique and silly and also deep and I appreciate listening to your stream of thoughts while you play, or even on your meme times and other videos. You are so strong too, overcoming the things you have and valuing your own mental health. You are an inspiration, so thank you.

I had such a hard time watching this 6 years ago, when I had just had a friend whose mental health issues spiraled kill themselves rather than come home from college because we're from a dying rural town just like this and their family situation matched Mae's so much. It felt too real. Now that I've moved forward with healing I think that watching this series all the way through is probably going to be good for me.

Over the years, I've gone through bouts of depression, anxiety and just existential crises, but for some reason, this game (more specifically, Jack's playthrough of this game) has helped ground me and keep me distracted from the literal dark thoughts. Today, I find myself back in that same mindset. 30 minutes into the video and that nostalgia of watching this for the first time kicked in and I'm enjoying experiencing the character's world all over again, even though I've watched the playthrough upwards of 10 times by now. Thank you for playing this wonderful game and adding to its already vibrant world by lending the characters your voice. It's no exaggeration to say that it has saved at least someone on multiple accounts.

I have watched this series every year since its' release, it just, it's a world of such coziness and laughter, and seeing seán play through it always just warms my heart during the colder months of the year. I'm not going to tell my life story, but this helped me through so much, the year this came out was the year I had surgery to fix some stuff that i was stuck with for over a year and could've offed me at any point, and this video came out just about a month prior to the surgery itself. This among a few other things like pumpkins, chilly weather, and eggnog (obviously), as well as jacks current content make this my favourite time of year. If only the 3 last months of the year lasted forever, aye boys and girls?
