In my opinion most non-influencers don’t really pay a lot of attention to trends. Everyone just sort of wears what they like / are comfortable with and then maybe dip a little into what is ‘popular’ if they want to try something new. Probably because we can’t afford to throw way all our clothes and redo our wardrobes just because of what a bunch of rich people decide they like.

I agree especially when it comes to things like shoes. But I do think I have styled things differently based on the era. I am definitely on a mission now to remember what trends I missed out on when I was younger and always wanted to try/what holds up for me personally in each era. Like I have always loved cobalt blue and sambas so now they are in I want more bc they are in abundance. or better yet wait till trend-followers sell theirs

Don't ask to bring it back, just do it! One thing I've learned in my 52 years on this earth is to stop asking for permission and just do what you want. I wear graphic t's, chucks, vans, camo pants, tye dye, all black & whatever else I want because I feel good in it and idc if no one else likes it. I've never been a trend follower. I think it has something to do with adhd & some kind of defiance thing.

The trends I’m nostalgic for are mostly from high school, so even if I kept my old stuff it wouldn’t fit. But now it’s available again and I’m like YEEEESSSSSSS I will wear a skinny jean and ballet flat and striped tee with a high pony every day until I DIE. That was my uniform in high school.

I just discovered the bike shorts with oversized tees as an outfit last year. I'm usually more of a leggings (capris and long ones) and oversized tee gal but the former is my almost daily errand running and occasional thrifting outfit! It's the comfiest ti wear outside in the 25/26°C - 30+°C heat here in the Philippines~ I think it's a trend that never should go away because it's just....ugh. The best rn. This and tshirt dresses, tank dresses are my favorite things since time immemorial. They should be like...classics by now. Oh and gigantic bags/purses for the win! I love the trends that you mentioned here we should bring back, Carrie! Because they're mostly in my wardrobe too rn and I'm kind of getting into or dipping into them on and off. P.S. I'm also a millennial but more of a late 80s one. Hehe. This upload of yours got me so excited I just had to comment/share my thoughts on these too. 😅

Most trends end to make way for new trends, and the old trends are no longer visible in stores and so they fade. Like wedge heels. Still wear them, hate the block heel - lived that in the 90s, I am that old, but all you see advertised are block heels. Fashion has always counted on people being herd animals and we comply. I think trendy things should be just pops in our wardrobes, with more solid staples making up a majority of it, but that's just me. ;)

It’s crazy how much nostalgia and memories affect taste. Apart from all the early 2000nds trends (i was a baby then) I hate all of these because I was struggling with depression when I wore them. Certain colors still make me cringe… neon pink, vermillion red (place I used to work at, Dutch girls will know the trauma), and grape-flavor-candy-purple, but I can’t justify that last one.

Paper bag waist!! I had one in pencil skirt form and I wore it to the office SO MUCH in 2018-2019. Never had to worry about the dreaded bloat striking when I wore it because that waist just looked beautiful no matter what. I’m all for the big bags. I remember being on the tube in London when I lived there, and the girl opposite me was showing her friend her new handbag. She was saying how nice it was that she didn’t have to carry a huge bag around any more, that she loved this tiny little bag so much because it was really convenient and had everything in it that she needed. At her feet was a giant tote bag containing her water bottle, umbrella, lunch box, her book, her make up bag. This thing was overflowing. Yes, my love. Your tiny handbag is so very convenient. 😂

Gosh, that little ponytail is the way my mom styled my hair in the late 70s...before scrunchies were invented--she'd tie a ribbon around the little ponytail. My sister and I had a big box of multicolored ribbons and we'd choose one to match our outfits every morning. I got to where I only liked very silky ribbons--the ones that wouldn't stick up when tied in a bow, and the next step was asking my mom NOT to tie a bow, just tie a ribbon around it and let the ends hang down. So now, that hairstyle makes me feel like, YIKES. Plus I have short hair anyway. Okay, update. On the tail end of that style was the "Chrissy from Three's Company" hairstyle where you have two little ponytails, one on each side of your head. With the hanging down ribbons. And next there was the 80s' single ponytail on one side of your head. Not sure who started that. Maybe Cyndi Lauper?

There are some styles or items that I genuinely don’t care even if everyone would start to hate them out of blue, I still won’t leave them behind me. For example my oversize army style green jacket (not parka tho) is one of them. It’s hard to describe that beautiful girl but she is one of the comfiest things I have ever worn. She’s 100% cotton but thick enough and has big ass pockets. Literally perfect fit, not so short not so long.. I regretted not buying a size smaller tho

i still wear bike shorts as an entire outfit lol especially since i bought pairs with pockets from Old Navy. they're just comfy and still look really put together in a more casual sense if you know how to style them in a way that fits you as a person. As for the super oversized bags, I used to LOVE wearing them when i was younger. A woman a relative of mine used to work with would call them my "baby snatcher" bags, cause they were big enough that you could fit a whole infant in them and still have room. That comment is a little weird to me now that I've grown up, but it's still kind of funny to think about. There was one I bought from...Claire's or Winners (basically like HomeSense) back in high school that was actually meant to be a beach tote I think, and I used to use that as a school bag because I hated backpacks for a small period of my life. Felt like i just looked cuter using a purse instead and while I regretted it at points, it was a trend hill that I probably would have died on back then.
