I am staying at the North Rim Lodge for a week this July. I have stayed at El Tovar and the Maswick Lodge on the South Rim and I like Maswick much more than El Tovar. The General Store at the South Rim is fantastic. Being helicoptered out of the Canyon must be very expensive.

My husband and I are going to Grand Canyon south rim at the end of July 2023, our first time visiting, so excited. Just wish I could do the hikes there but I have some issues with my ear/balance and vertigo. The hiking paths look narrow to me so I’ll just have to admire the views from the top. I really don’t want to die there 😂because that’s our first stop to a 2 week drive all the way to Estes Park, Colorado. We are also doing the Durango steam train ride, Telluride, Estes Park and back to Moab to see the Arches then back home to California. I know it’s a lot to squeeze into 2 weeks. Well, thanks for your informative videos, very helpful and I will check your other ones too.😊

I noticed a book on display when you showed the inside at Hermit's Rest: Over the Edge: Death in Grand Canyon by Michael P. Ghiglieri and Thomas M. Myers. I am reading this now. This is an incredible book about all the fatalities, most of the preventable, that have occurred there. I have been there several times and I would recommend this book very highly to anyone who has even a remote interest in the Grand Canyon. The geology, trails, weather, everything is covered and it is fascinating reading!

It’s a gem of a national park…our favorite! There’s a great book called Death in the Grand Canyon that has stories about all the possible ways to get killed at the GC. On our way out there I read excerpts to our grandkids 😂😂😂 they stayed away from edges 👍. Also many people underestimate what it takes to hike to the bottom which leads to many of the rescues.

Great video and me and my wife saw 7 national parks in June and the Grand Canyon north rim was the least crowded of all.Luckily we talked to another traveler that gave us the good advice because at that point I was over the crowds lol

My wife and I were there 😂 n 2015, and it's just amazing. I felt as if I was at the end of the earth, and the wild life is surprisingly abundant and couldn't care less if we were there. We stayed in a village just outside the park and took a free bus ride everyday into the park itself, which you can get on at any time to go from point to point and you don't even need an automobile to see the park at the south rim.

Most people don't spend enough time there to know anything. One of my favorite places. high desert being dry? Been there a lot and seen no smog?????? you have to see it in snow cover. I worked at Hopi House.

The wildlife was pretty scarce at the North Rim when I was there last month. I did, however, get zoomed by a condor atop Angel's Landing. Lunched at Jacob's Lake on the way in, breakfasted there on the way out. It was great. And on an unrelated note? You guys are too cute!

Excellent video! I have been there more than 20 times and also hiked to the bottom 7 times. Here are more "fun" facts: Helicopter recues start at $3000.00. The sea has covered this land and retreated 7 times, geologists say. This is why layers are visible. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) began as a result of two airliners that crashed together in mid air over the canyon. This was in the 1950's and was the worst aviation disaster in history at that time. There is a monument to the people who died in the GC Cemetery located near Shrine of the Ages. There is a 150 foot vertical shift in the layers where the Bright Angel Faultline is. This is easily seen on a Bright Angel Trail hike. Also there is a dip in the land at the top where this separation occurs.

Hello, In August it will be our first time in US and maybe the only time that we could be in the grand canyon, we intend to visit the north rim because it is sure for our direction, do you think that it will be impressive enough for us to visit only the north rim? or we need to change our plan and visit the south rim?
@WereintheRockies
@WereintheRockies Жыл бұрын
Good question. We have a blog article about the North Rim that can help you make your decision: wereintherockies.com/grand-canyons-peaceful-north-rim-everything-you-need-to-know-before-you-go/ also, within that article, there are links to other articles about the South Rim and the Grand Canyon in general. Best of luck, you will love it!
