When the tiktok of a guy showing everyone how they play dead first came out I remember my local reptile store having to put a sign on the door saying “no hognose snakes” even though they did indeed sell them because every teenager in the city suddenly wanted a snake that played dead. Thank you for this video. I had NO IDEA they made that sound and did false strikes. What a great informative video. Love you to death Taylor. Been a fan since you went to the pet expo and got your hognose xox also thank you for the frozen feeder recommendation. I nearly lost my ball python in 2009 to an infection because of feeding live. Never again. The breeder told me lice was the only “humane” way to feed a snake and let it “hunt” when the reality is a snake cannot “hunt” in an enclosure … it’s not possible. It’s either going to strike and eat or it’s not. Not only is frozen safest, but most humane for all parties involved.

Girl. You are the cutest Goddess. Between you and my sweet gorgeous boyfriend, I have expanded my heart and mind to the critters y'all hold dear. You guys have changed the way I think about myself worth, the life and value of these animals vs mine, and that recovery is not perfect. I don't know exactly your beliefs but I have followed you as best I can for 4-5 years. You are a good person Nicole. You (and my boyfriend have changed me to a different human. I am so grateful. I live in the deep South, so of course I have shame welders snakes are concerned. I try not to cry. I thank my Higher Power that you could help me have the breakthrough I've had. You're compassion touches so many more people than maybe you know. You are a GOOD person. You are a GOOD SOUL. ALL OF US who love and think of you obviously know that. Hognoses are my favorite snakes next to ball pythons! I love how short and chonky they are, and their faces are the cutest in the whole world 😍 The little upturned snoot, those big button eyes, and the chubby cheeks..!! I was just looking into making them my first pet snake, and seriously balked at the current prices for even normal types, so it's good to hear that this isn't the norm! I'll probably be getting a ball python first instead if the market hasn't calmed down by the time I have everything I'll need to finish setting up an enclosure. It's great seeing you upload again! You look great!

I had a Hognose snake for a while, he was my 5th snake and unfortunately he never ate for me in the 5 months that I owned him and I tried every trick in the book, couldn’t get him to eat at all. Eventually I gave him to someone with a lot more experience who had to assist feed him for months before he took food on his own 😅

To solve the cat and doors issue I went to a second hand hardware store (habitat for humanity resale store if you have one) and bought a door that would fit my frame then cut a cat sized hole in the bottom so I can keep my door closed. If you want extra privacy you can make a little door for the hole to close it up. It’s also a renter friendly solution too since you can just put the original door on when you move out and take your cat hole door wherever you go next.

Scared a hog nose hiking a semi dry river bed in Ohio and the worst part of the bite was the hit to the boney section of my ankle. Seeing them in a false cobra flattened out pose is awesome and comical knowing their compensating for being a good tiny pest killer.

My very first Hognose was such a good lil guy. Never hissed at me, never tried to bite me, the absolute most tolarent little sucker there is :D. Then I got more of 'em and got a big girlie. Because i wasn't used to the Drama act, I didnt really feel comfortable reaching into her enclosure to get her out because...well..she was defending her kingdom xD. So i always took a little hook to get her out and as soon as she was out of her enclosure she was a sweetheart. So...if you reeaally want a Hognose and did your research and look for a well established Snake, that was handled previously then dont let their Drama push you away.

I have a strong reaction to my hoggies bluff strikes so I wear gloves when taking them out of their terrariums. I honestly don't care if people think its funny because I am putting my animals safety first as I handle them more confidently when I have gloves on and then when they calm down I remove the gloves.

Sorry I can't shut up when it comes to hognose! Lol 😂 The dramatic bluff strikes are one of the things I love about them. When I got my first hognose I squealed like a little kid when he hissed at me. Lol 😂 I learned with my 2nd hognose that they can be super mellow as babies but then turn into "grumpy" adults! lol 😂

I have a month or two wait for a clutch to become available coming from a breeder friend. I'm not exactly a novice with exotic animals/snakes, but initially I found these guy's dramatics a little intimidating despite being so tiny, but after doing some reading I've came around to wanting one. Plus I've spent a few years keeping tarantulas/scorpions, so I've gotten pretty desensitized to jump scares compared to back when I last had a snake. Lol Then again the snakes I had were always good because I kept up with handling them regularly, however I've only gotten to keep king snakes and pythons, and not since I was a teenager. Anyway, 12 years since I've last kept a snake, I have a nice big former adult Asian Forest Scorpion enclosure that's been empty for over a year now, and some extra time to get more enclosure goodies while waiting, so I'm trying to learn everything I can so I can make the most of having a snake again!

I had a hognose as a starter snake because I saw Pissy on exotics lair. Had him (Georgie) for 3 years before he passed away. One of his mice had a parasite and one day, he passed away. It was really a sad day... But, he was the best snake ever. RIP.

Idk if hognoses do this but my king snake use to do false strikes with his head, closed mouth. It sometimes felt like he bit me but he really just hit me with his face. For snakes not getting off, you can use metro cards, they're more thin and flexible compared to regular cards, just slide it between their jaws and your skin.
@Upper_echelon_exotics Жыл бұрын
12:33 The easy way to say that is anything with a mouth can bite! That being said most hognose don't unless they think you are food and most of the time it's pretty avoidable. 😊

Stop filming, just do videos. 😁 There is an entire universe of nice, calm, even forgiving people out here. There are those of us that want the very best for those that try even the least bit to overcome their shortcomings. The problem is we have been blocked too often by those that say they are open and inclusive. Been shouted down by those that say they want everyone to be able to live in peace. The only thing is, the world is made up of those that say these things, but do absolutely the opposite. I hope your life become more uplifting. I hope you live for well being. Be content. seeking joy and happiness is a great aspiration. It is however only fleeting. Maintaining balance can also be difficult, but it is however not impossible to maintain. Center, balance and contentment is about as easy as abstaining. Not an easy objective, but once obtained fairly easy to maintain. Unlike the highs and lows of any other perspective.
