Since Jon expressed his curiosity: My artist name came about because I was trying to find something that would fit my music style (trance/hardstyle/gabber). Hardstyle and Gabber artists seems to have a thing for the letters k-q-x-y-z and for the name to be a little more dark sounding (zatox, headhunterz, arkaine, gunz 4 hire, audiofreq, showtek, etc.) but due to the trance influence and the fact that I like more atmospheric, euphoric hardstyle, I wanted to reflect that with something a little more "sleek" I guess? Well, "Zeerus" was an old name I used to use for video game characters and it fit what I was looking for so I went with it. I added the "Dj" bit because in hardstyle and gabber, it is still a very common thing to throw that before your artist name for whatever reason. P.S. Showtek and Headhunterz did actually start off with hardstyle.

I'd recommend also checking candidate artist names for meanings in most common languages. With my first artist name I didn't do this, because I thought it's just a fantasy word I came up with. After some time, it turned out it's actually an English slang word I didn't know, and even though it wasn't really that bad, it didn't fit with what I wanted to do or be at that time. This was basically the end of that project.

the bass synth with the envelope is too cheesy-2000's for me. A blend of both versions minus the envelope bass sound would be really cool. I like the synths in the 1st version bc they almost sound like orchestra violas. I would try to use some viola type sounds. M83 - Oblivion is a good example.

I think the basic Name-Surname is always the most natural. You'll always relate it with a person because that's the structure we are used to, so that's never going to look old. All this trendish things can look cool at the moment, but are going to get old and look weird. This "mixing capital letters with numbers" (1M7H3B055) thing that's going on right now looks like a wifi pasword to me

I'd say the only thing is if there's some type of trend within a genre and you plan to stick with the genre. Every music genre (not just EDM) seems to exhibit some sort of style or trend that the artist names follow. It can just be a little weird when your artist name completely does not fit the music you're making.

Dj Zeerus I think so, but I personally wouldn't force myself to stick to a genre forever. Since I started I've made a lot of different genres (from hardstyle to chill) and now I'm starting to create my own. I love experimenting new things and I don't think getting stuck in one genre is a good idea. To give you an example, I used to love Big Room House and now I pretty much hate it

I think that the second drop is more creative, and also fits to the vibe of the track. Maybe another layer for a richer top end works good. Also you can introduce small weird sounds in the quiet parts or just small cool percussion elements. It's sounding pretty well right now. I recommend you to listen to Louis The Child, Myrne, Baynk, Chace... For ideas :)
