WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE QUEEN MARY 2 MASQUERADE BALL!
We are sharing our experience of the masquerade ball. We would like your opinion on cruise ship attire. Should there be a dress up night every night? Some sort of an event dress up? Let us know your thoughts down below in the comments. For additional information on the Cunard dress code here in the Cunard website www.cunard.com...
Please consider watching our entire Cunard Playlist to see more of this magnificient oceanliner as well as some of the adventures we had at each of the ports of call. This journey started in NY in January 2024 when we boarded the Queen Mary 2 and sailed to Southampton, England - Tenerife, Spain - Walvis Bay, Namibia - Port Elizabeth, Capetown & Durban, South Africa - Reunion Island - Mauritius Island and then finally Perth, Australia. We stayed in an inside cabin (check out our cabin tour & review video) for 45 days that included a Transatlantic Crosssing and 2 Segments of her World Cruise. With many interesting changes in weather, sickness, safety protocols, breaking-news LIVE updates, as well as amazing ports of call with two overnight stops we hope you find our videos both informative and fun to watch.
And as always... Thanks for coming along on our journey!
All the best, Michael & Andrea

I absolutely LOVE dressing up, both at dinner and especially the gala nights. I choose Cunard specifically for this reason. If folks don't want to dress up, there are plenty of other cruise lines to choose from.

I've just watched your post?( I don't do social media so am not up on the language of it)..you were both so refreshing to watch, so laid back and cheerful.. although I enjoy the dressing up bit, it can be disarming and somewhat stressful...( all that competition)..I'm sailing on Queen Anne, Dec '24, on my own this time. I do hope I meet people who are as charming & relaxed as you both seem to be. Loved your comments 😊

What you wear can change your mood, the way you think, and the way you behave. Look good, feel good!

That's definitely the belief of many. I'm thinking they actually wrote lots of books on the subject. When I was climbing the corporate ladder and running my business the idea to dress to impress (impress myself & clients) was spot on. However, It’s a different world today. I'm probably more of the opinion that dressing the way that makes you feel good is the way to go. There are a bunch of people out there that are accomplished and they dress down only caring about comfort. They feel good all the time. It's definitely an interesting subject. For those of us that may have an opinion on how someone is dressed when we meet someone. I would use the old saying, don't judge a book by its cover. You may miss out on meeting amazing, interesting, great people. Thank you for your comments and coming along on our journey around the world.

Cool! Last year we sailed Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth and we did a Black and White Gala Night and loved getting dressed up. This year we’re sailing Queen Mary 2 Southampton-New York and we will have a 20’s night and a Black and White Gala on that crossing. I’ve just bought my 20’s tuxedo and my black shawl tuxedo and I’m looking forward to dressing up again. I love doing that as I don’t get much of a chance to really dress up being located in a rural area in my normal everyday life. We can’t wait…

@@HubbardsJourney….We sure will and following your recent journey on QM2 it seems like you did too! Enjoyed seeing your disembarkation at Fremantle (Perth) in Western Australia and hearing your point of view as I lived there for many years. Keep those clips coming! We will definitely enjoy our journey to The Big Apple later this year. Stay safe and enjoy your travels…

Great vlog. Thank you both for raising this interesting topic. We have always enjoyed formal nights on Cunard in particular on QM2. Like you Gavin, I personally had to dress up always throughout my career and wearing a tuxedo frequently for formal events etc. Since I retired, a few years ago, this has changed and we now dress smart casual most of the time. We miss not dressing up in formal wear as much as before even though it takes some effort. Myself and my wife feel very nostalgic during formal nights on Cunard. We always have a great time there and are looking forward to our next time. Enjoy the rest of your fabulous voyage!

Thanks for the comment. We feel that the "themed" gala nights are a fun twist for people to come together. I'm sure you've seen a lot of changes in cruising since the late 60/70s. Our favorite part is meeting people who also love to cruise and find out what their favorite part is... the ship, the people, the experience aboard or the travel itinerary. Thanks for coming along on our journey!

We were "a little late to the party" on purchasing something before our trip as well. Too be honest we weren't sure if we wanted to dress up or not. But a quick search on Amazon revealed lots of options that weren't very expensive. We opted to pick something that coordinated with outfits we would be wearing again. Have fun with it and you can't go wrong. If you decide not to purchase ahead of time the shop on the ship did have a few things to offer for the last minute shopper. as well. Thanks for the comment and coming along on our journey.

We wouldn't do your length of trip and don't want port calls but like a QM2 round trip Transatlantic. We do the themes but see black tie/gala attire as most important. Gangsters on Downton style Roaring 20s, and fancy dress on Venetian Masquerade nights are just annoying! Unlike you I prefer jacket, shirt & tie (even though I wore that in 45 working years). We're going to save space and weight next time by not taking smart attire. I'll wear tuxes and my wife sparkly gowns/dresses every night. She'll wear dresses during days when I'll wear jacket, shirt & tie. We may be in minority on smart attire nights but won't feel the least out of place. Your reports have been interesting and it looks like you got the gala nights right. You've done well considering the total length of your journey.

Thanks for the comments and view on your dress attire. We really loved seeing all the differences in how people dressed. It's definitely the highlight of the trip for some people. For us, it's all about trying to stay in the mix while maximizing our luggage for multiple uses. Thanks for coming along on our journey.
