As a Kiwi and motorhome owner I think this was a fair summary of the advantages and pitfalls

Well, thank you! It must be nice and quiet over there without all the foreign travelers. Hope you've been able to travel some.

Not many people in NZ eat out a lot I think living in NZ is much better than just coming for a holiday

It's a beautiful country and I can see why you love living there.

Great summary. We own the same Campervan in Australia. (Kea Nomad made by THL) You soon get used to the size. It's like driving a car after a while. We just end up doing a circuit of the block looking for town parking! Our country roads are similar, no shoulder. Thankfully our van has fly screens on the windows. I agree that the storage is not great. This is partly due to the design of the rear seats/bed. A permanent bed setup like in the Cruisin Motorhomes Sandpiper has a higher 'permanent' bed setup and so more storage under the bed. (we rented one of those). Our floor plan is slightly different allowing the the main bed to be left made up and we have a small dinette behind the driver seat. You can rent with this layout too in NZ/Australia. Generally called a 3 berth or 2+1. P.S. We just wash our hands at the kitchen sink. We have a soap dispenser mounted above it. Not sure why that's a problem.

I like the idea of the floor plan of the one you rented. I really loved the diesel heater in our rental - so warm and cozy. It’s challenging driving on the opposite side of the road.

@@TravelsandTravails We have a diesel heater in ours. Love it! I 'get' the wrong side of the road thing. I lived in Germany for a few years. But you get used to it fast I think. Just need to think twice at roundabouts and complicated junctions.

our first trip in a campervan was in a britz van, we thought it was great until the following year when we spent 10 days in a wilderness motorhome which was much much better
@TravelsandTravails3 жыл бұрын
The Wilderness looks beautiful. When we went, it was cost prohibitive.

Good video in the ups and downs of canpervan travel. I am wondering if this is much better than a car and hotels for NZ. Obviously remote area are where the vans shine.
@TravelsandTravails Жыл бұрын
In retrospect, I would choose the van over hotels. I think you see much more.

I heard: NZL is quite strict with grey water/waste disposal, you may get hefty fines for not compliance. Not like in Australia, we just use a shovel whenever needed:)
@TravelsandTravails3 жыл бұрын
Yes. But there are plenty of disposal stations at Holiday parks.

How many days was your rental for?
@dg58942 Жыл бұрын
I had the same question. Telling us how much it cost without telling us how long the rental was for was kinda pointless. But given this video was uploaded three years ago at the start of the pandemic, I'm not sure that getting the pricing info now matters because it will likely have changed substantially.
@TravelsandTravails Жыл бұрын
@danielgranville5894 I’m sure the pricing has changed. We rented for about two weeks.

OMG THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. I am surprising mig fiancee with a trip to NZ hopefully beginning of next year. My biggest problem is choosing a camper... I want a shower & toilet but still don’t if there are a lot campingspots where we can find it. Is the showers at campingsites private or are you showering with others?

And also thanks for the tips on what apps to download!!
@TravelsandTravails3 жыл бұрын
If you stay at the holiday parks, the showers are usually one big room with stalls; one side for women and one side for men. All holiday parks have showers. You are welcome! Have a blast!
