It’s not that simple dude. The States have agreed on the current rules (by a 3/4ths majority). You can’t just “stop Presidential appointments” by declaring it. I agree that we are in desperate need of reform but to allow one of the 3 branches of government the power to reform another is absurd and dangerous. This needs to be done independently of government, democratically, and free from potential corrupt influences. This is a republic and the actions of government should reflect the will and best interests of the people, which cant be defined by the colors red, blue, black, white or any other color, shape, size, race etc. We need to stop treating these life altering decisions like we're a bunch of drunk idiots sitting in the bleachers at a football game. We the People still have civic duties that we cant just pawn off on government officials. Thats how we got ourselves in this mess in the first place.

The majority if not the entirety of what has been alleged so far by Sen Sheldon Whitehouse is beyond prosecution because much (if not the entirety) of the alleged is beyond the statute of limitations (five years). Furthermore, pointless bringing in new legislation to get Justice Thomas is pointless because legislation in the United States ... cannot apply retroactively. Legislation can apply retroactively in the United Kingdom ..., but the UK is not the US. Still, Justice Thomas is innocent until proven guilty.

no term limits for SCOTUS. that makes SCOTUS even more of an instrument for particular political parties. i would accept a Constitutional Amendment for this, if you could really get that support. the enforceable ethics code is most important. this is even implied by the Constitution -- "good behavior".

The real irony here is that the whole idea behind the lifetime appointment structure was supposed to avoid this problem. It was thought that if justices didn't need to run for re-election like normal politicians, they would be FREE from the influence that comes from campaigning. Will they still just be appointed by POTUS but have a shelf life now?
