They also, like crested gecko’s, eat their shed as a defense mechanism. They are basically prey animals and leaving their shed around can attract predators.

I've got a gal who is yellow and looks a bit like your male there. But my gal was born with a tail deformity so her tail is short, wide as her head and is curled like a piggy! Not a regrown tail, according to her breeder she hatched with her tail like that. I think it's unique and so cute. I adore my little gal!

I knew all of this already just from the experience I have working with my geckos, but still a fun video 😊 They're such neat animals. The babies are always so high strung though, some will scream at crickets lol. Also when a leopard gecko loses its tail, it grows back smooth and shorter because it doesn't regrow the bone. The creases in a leos first tail is because of the vertebrae. Theyre also so good at climbing. While they don't have pads to climb glass, they will climb straight up your curtains with their little claws.

So true about the screaming it's terrifying! My friends leopard gecko got out once and was cornered by their cat. They are such great companions!

I strongly recommend a halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat, they’re actually more natural and beneficial than DHPs! The levels of infrared A and B they produce more closely mimic the sun (DHPs produce barely any IRA, the most beneficial wavelength).

your channel is so informative and fun to listen to-I have 3 leopard geckos of various ages- the oldest one (22!) I keep in my preschool classroom. I have certainly seen the eating of the shed, they rub their skin on the surfaces and with their mouth, they pull at it and eat it off their bodies - helping them shed and esp watching out for toes and tail tips is essential. As they age they are not as meticulous and leave bits behind. I provide a moist hide in cool side and a water dish large enough to step in to help with the shed. One had a damaged tail tip drop and regrow- tip was nowhere to be found- I think he ate it. They are amazing creatures. Just Monday, our 19 yr old bearded dragon passed, we had him for 11 love filled years.🦎💕 Keep up the good work you do in the education you provide

However, leopard geckos are not the only geckos with eyelids. They belong to the family of eyelid geckos and here there are several species that have eyelids. These geckos usually do not have sticky lamellae that allow them to climb up walls. So the leopard geckos are not really unique in this aspect: an example would be the tiger gecko or the fox-faced gecko from Tailand. The fact that leopard geckos live cathemeral in terrariums never really occurred to me myself, or rather I didn't even know the word, LOL. Otherwise, it was an interesting video and your channel seems quite appealing as well.

Buy my leopard gecko gained two sacs under her front arms and I thought they were blisters probably from her humid hide or something, but when I looked it up it's just a sign of a fat and happy gecko. The question is... can you really bond with them? I heard reptiles actually are not fond of humans as cats and dogs. Is any of that true? Because for me there is no point in having them if they dont like my presence, only to stay in a dark space hiding, eating and pooping.
@corv1d7702 жыл бұрын
They don't seek affection typically but they learn you're a safe presence and will be active around you if they feel secure, so it's a matter of taking good care of them and handling them properly when you do! You also have to introduce them to being handled slowly if they're young or not used to it yet, but they can be very interactive and show personality and reactivity to their caretaker(s), yes. They will learn the sound of your voice too, so speak softly to them when you're handling them or feeding them or even just looking in at them. If they see your mouth moving especially it helps them recognize that the sound is you. I don't currently have a gecko that enjoys much handling (he's a rescue and was mishandled by his previous caretakers to the point of dropping tail), but I've seen others have geckos who border on showing affection. It's a matter of personality and conditions, but they're very interactive. Even my boy who doesn't know how to feel about handling (he's better but not totally comfortable) interacts with me during feed and through the glass when I come over to softly chatter at him. Tl;dr- they're very interactive and can enjoy human company if you respect their body language and boundaries!

Terrestrial geckos are great. I love them because setups are a bit easier to keep (IMO) than those other ones. Those tails also serve as water/fat reserves so loosing them isn't a great thing for leo's whereas with crested geckos, the tails appear to be pretty much useless. One thing with the shedding that may not be as apparent with your gecko is that their colors dull severely right before the shed. That has been my experience, at least, when comparing my albino leo to my Vazimba and Carrot-tailed Viper Geckos.
@Hamburglar0092 жыл бұрын
Leopard geckos cannot climb up CERTAIN walls. They can’t climb like glass or smooth plastic. They CAN climb my bare human skin, tshirts or hoodies, zilla enclosure foam “rock wall” backgrounds, etc. they could probably climb certain types of walls in a home (at least I bet mine can, she’ll climb almost anything)

Little question can you have 3 or 2 leopard geckos live in the same tank with each other?
@nightinggale64702 жыл бұрын
I strongly recommend not housing them together. They will likely compete for resources and stress each other out. I have seen countless cases of geckos seeming fine for years, then snapping and seriously injuring or killing each other. It can be done by an experienced keeper with a very large enclosure and plenty of hides, basking spots, etc. but should absolutely not be attempted by a beginner.
