If I was loaded and didn’t need to work I’d move to London in a heartbeat. I’m a huge history buff. Every time I’m in London, being surrounded by all that history just makes me feel alive.
@felicegreece

Hahaah you clearly havent seen Greece. you should REAAAALLY come to Greece , then you get to know what "surrounded by all that history" really means.. then London`s historical value will seem to you something of a joke, believe me

@felicegreece
@felicegreece 2 жыл бұрын
@@grosskopf2779 I see. by the way i have to tell you that in any case Americans and English people have no big language barrier here since most of Greeks and especially the younger generation are fluent in english and all the crucial stuff (even the things you buy in the markets) are written both in Greek and in English. Basically, english speaking people have the privilege to speak their language everywhere in the world. We grow up listening to your language all the time. It is everywhere and you feel no strangers anywhere you go. Well, maybe you won't understand greek tv or the conversations between greeks but that is a minor thing, you get my point.

Like all big International cities London has it's downside and well as it's amazing places. Be aware that if you are moving there and want a good lifestyle enjoying the unrivaled facilities you will need plenty of money, it's not a cheap city. There is so much to London beyond the obvious tourist hot spots you can spend literally years and years getting to know and enjoy the best it has to offer and that's one of it's greatest attractions.

Living in London can get a bit lonely if you don't have a family or partner here because no one talks to you and asks you how your day is, no one cares about you. You go to a coffee shop the only thing the barista will say to you is "That's £2.50". You see your friends once or twice a week and that's maybe the only "social" interaction you get outside work.

Been dying to move since I lived there for a summer in 2014. So far it’s so been a treacherous journey of learning about visas and working and jobs and how Id be able to 1. Have enough money to fund the move and visa itself. 2. How id be able to get a job that would make me enough money to be able to afford to live there comfortably. 3. I have NO one to talk to about it or chat with all the little details and logistics and the millions of questions that arise here and there. I don’t have family or a SO who lives there to help with visas or citizenship either which seems to be the only option for those few that I know who have made the move. The ever changing laws on immigration and visas also complicate things and the overwhelming amount of money id have to save (while still affording to be able to live here in Atlanta, GA USA) don’t help the process much either. I know that all sounds so negative but the process is just so daunting and intricate. I’ve been dying to move back to the city calling to my heart since I left it!

Don't give up. :) Try to save up money and look for jobs online that offers visa sponsorship. You also shouldn't forget that as a US citizen, you are required to pay tax to the US government no matter where you live, but you can research this online for sure. I've never actually realised how daunting this entire process for a non-EU citizen, as an EU citizen I just booked a flight and moved to London, skipping all that visa madness. If you have any question just drop a reply and I can answer if I'm free.

I wouldn't, it's great to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. If you want to live in a beautiful English city try Cambridge, it's not cheap but it's cheaper than London, full of beautiful buildings and parks, plenty of museums, there are botanical gardens, cuisine from around the world, there are churches, at least one mosque and a synagogue, there are art galleries, cinemas, theatre, concerts both classical and popular, and if you want something specific to London, its only half an hour away by train.

I am moving to London...relativly soon-ish... And the one thing I can never figure out when going to other countries is how to find a doctor to go to when you're not a citizen, even if you live there. (I'm norwegian. Pretty sure I can move anywhere in europe without a visum or anything.) In norway everyone has to registrer for your own doctor, and you can't really use anyone but that one doctor...unless you change who that is. (And it's usually pretty cheap with anything health care related and a max limit per year. But I've heard england has free health care, so I guess that won't be a problem.) But how does London work there? And what's the emergency numbers? Also... How are the standards for safety on things in London? (I'm from a country in which one tiny breach of an immencly strict health code gets resturants shut down, and if you go to a plastic surgeon it is always 100% safe, because higher education is mandatory, and, again, any form of misshaps or misstreatments gets people fired and usually also the whole damned place shut down. Which makes every other country seem scary, because these misshaps actually HAPPENS there. At ALL.)

I am moving there, but I want to wait til my son is older. Like high school age. My plan is to land an hr job with a company that has a location here, and there in London. Then, I could transfer in 6 years on the 2 to 5 year visa.

I loved London's heaters! The pipe things work so well. Is it London thing or whole UK's?

Rachel and Nick radiators? They’re common throughout the UK, though a few newer places have underfloor heating instead (similar idea, but hidden and cheaper to run).
@jas88cam
@jas88cam 6 жыл бұрын
TheRenaissanceman65 Those storage heaters can still be pricey to run compared to gas though - Eco 7 is half price electricity, but gas is a third of the price of regular electricity, so still cheaper. My grandfather has storage heaters, and pays a fortune in electricity - every UK home I’ve lived in has had gas or oil heating. (In TX we had a heat pump, air conditioning/heating in one, which is much cheaper to heat the house with than direct electric heating- those are just starting to catch on in the UK too.)

Really want to live there, but the rent prices scares me. I am from the Midwest where we have lots of space and rent is cheap. It would be a huge adjustment for me, on top of the already different culture to adjust to. Probably a much easier adjustment for someone who is from New York lol.
@loveandlondon
@loveandlondon 6 жыл бұрын
Yes it would definitely be a huge change! It only really works for people who find value in something in London, in my personal opinion. For me, I'd love to have more space, a yard, etc. but the fact that there is so much to do here in London, I can't get anywhere else and I am ok with sacrificing the space!

Love and London thank you!!! What was it like getting a doctor and dentist?
@EdanPowell
@EdanPowell 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, getting a doctor should be easy. I don’t know where you’re from, but assuming you’re not from the EU, you pay the health surcharge and you register with a GP. There’s a really good one that I use called GP at Hand. It’s NHS, so it’s free (after you pay the surcharge obviously), which is based mostly on an app on your phone, and you have video and phone consultations. If they need to check you in real life, they have several surgeries around London and one in Birmingham too. You consult your GP on most non major issues. Emergencies should go to A&E, which is also free. All the work they do to you there is free. If you need to see a specialist, you see your GP, and they will see what they can do first, then they refer you to a specialist if you need. This can include mental health too. Sexual health and genito urinary medicine is usually self referral, so you don’t need to see your GP first, you can usually just go to that department of the hospital. Urgencies that you’re not sure are emergencies, but can’t really wait for an appointment should go to 111, a telephone urgency number. They give advice and can put you in contact with specialists by phone. With GP at Hand, they are 24/7, but getting appointments during the night can be more difficult. Dentists aren’t free for anyone, unless you fall into a special category, then the nhs would pay. It’s not likely you’d fit into the category, but it’s not overly expensive. You choose your dentist and just ask to register there.
