I’d say the first thing you should do is not even magic(k) at all. It’s to ask yourself ‘why?’ Why do you feel drawn to witchcraft? What is your reason? Are they realistic reasons, or are you expecting it to be as it’s shown in a TV show? Now, either get yourself a book, or start a word document or something. You are going to become a student, and you are enrolling in the longest course you will ever do. That course is your practice. Document EVERYTHING you learn, you will regret not documenting it as you go and you will definitely never remember everything you learn. Then you work on building your focus. Spend time meditating to hone your focus and concentration. This will be your first, and most long standing practice. You will be continually learning to hone your mind and direct your thoughts throughout your time as a practitioner. Record your experiences in your book/document/etc to keep track of your progress. Alongside this, also read. But don’t jump straight into the advanced writings. Start reading about the history of magic, read about your family history, learn about the space around you. This will give you insight into things which will serve you down the line. Again, take notes in your records. Once you have become familiar with all of that, and perhaps been inspired by a particular practice (make sure you have learned whether it is an open or closed practice first) you can start with the fundamentals. THIS is where you start with magic. Spend time in meditation learning to feel, gather, focus, and direct energy in whatever system you are working. Whether this is using elements, the Earth, the stars, etc. learn to feel the flow of energy through yourself. At this point you aren’t sending it out with intent, merely allowing it to flow through you freely whilst learning to comprehend what the experience is like. Also learn to ground and centre yourself too. This is to focus your mind and allow excess energy to flow out of your body. Learn about the balance and how much you can give without exerting yourself. Also how to replenish yourself if you are depleted. Next you learn about protection. Draw inspiration from the practices you have studied, and begin practicing general protection techniques. Become used to doing them and find what feels most comfortable for you. By now you will have learnt the foundation of magic; history, energy work, protection. This is where you can start springboarding off into areas which interest you. You will now understand the importance of not overreaching, how to identify good information, and how to work safely. Remember to revisit the basics regularly to keep yourself familiarised. Now, go out into the world and see what you can discover.

My BIGGEST MISTAKE was by NOT DOING A PROTECTION SPELL FIRST!! With great power comes great responsibility!! I was so excited about it and didn't know what I was doing clearly! Many times I did black magick or even blood magick using my blood! Did it work? Yes and I did a hex on someone who was a pedophile and had harassed me for so long! So I hexed him by making sure whenever I did a ritual, I'd include "not just physical, but mental pain, take away the one he's comfortable and closest with" I did it 3 times and after a few months, found out his aunt died, he always spoke about how close he was with his aunt and best friends. Do I feel bad? No. Do I think it was too far? YES! DARK MAGICK CAN BACKFIRE! ALWAYS DO MORE RESEARCH AND HAVE PATIENCE!!

As someone who has been Pagan for all of my 40 years, and practicing myself for almost 30, I want to share some advice. I fully agree that protection should be first, and it actually goes hand-in-hand with what would otherwise be my advice on the first thing to do when starting out, which is to learn! Educate yourself before you do ANYTHING other than protect yourself. Learn FIRST several various methods of protecting yourself, your energy, your intention, your altar, your home, etc. There are just about as many valid ways to practice witchcraft as there are those who practice. And that's perfectly ok! You don't need to spend extravagant amounts on fancy supplies to begin. Many of us work with the elements. If you can be outside somewhere and recognize representations of the elements around you, fantastic! If you live in a city, maybe there's a park nearby. But if not our own bodies absolutely carry all that we need. We hold a really beautiful connection to our planet, our celestial home, and the elements which she is made of. Our physical being - our muscles, skin, bones - that is the Earth. We have Water flowing through our veins, nourishing and strengthening all of the rest of us. We breathe in and out the Air surrounding and from within us. We have our own personal electrical system moving all of this around, one that doesn't need to be plugged in, one which makes our neurons Fire. And the essence of who we are as individuals is our Spirit. Even if you have zero tools, supplies, or a location dedicated to practice, the elements, the magic - it's all within you already. (Shout-out to Mia Magic for the beautiful likening there!) What works for some won't work for others, and with enough research, either you will find something that feels like a good fit for you, or along the path of your education, you'll have learned enough about several methods to take from different ones pieces and elements which do work for you and combine them into something unique to you. And I will wholeheartedly say that if a direct teaching works well for you, awesome! But if you end up putting together your own, it is - dare I say - even better, because it is made for you, by you, and is thus OF YOU, which is pure and authentic, and inherently connected to your very essence - the energy of which magic is made. It is even stronger, more protected and protective, more deeply connected to whatever you call it: God/dess, Spirit, Universe, The Divine, etc., and as such, more powerful than if you simply jump into witchtok and start doing spells without an understanding of the interaction between you, your energy, your magic, and the world around you! Also, don't do any love spells involving others except perhaps to send them the self-love they would benefit from to improve their lives. Forcing another's will is pretty shitty. But LEARN! Read about all kinds of different paths of Paganism and see what does and does not spark an inner truth for you. It is by honoring these truths (and eventually honoring if you find yourself shifting to a different personal truth!) that you will best be able to tap into your magic and the magic surrounding us every day. And I’ve studied south Louisiana root magick, hoodoo, cabalistic high magick, Egyptian, Wicca, and I mostly practice Bronze Age Druidic sorcery(and that’s a path you have to understand your being led to it and are chosen but want it at the same time) something most are not willing to take on today. Read the picatrix for something as in-depth and detailed, very old school. However; most people don’t follow basic principles. Research, rehearse, grounding, clarity, and constitution. If you forget a part, don’t fret, the gods and spirits and ancestors understand better than you do, your own intentions. You just have to get it out there. Be precise in your intentions, and conduct the main operations fully; opening, invitations, main work, ritual, thanksgiving, closing and banishing. Not to mention grounding as the very last.

I really do like this channel though so I wasn't trying to be a complete asshole. I just think back to when I started getting into stuff like this. I always thought why protection to begin with? I wouldn't want to start anything new spiritually with fear right out the gate when fear and doubt is exactly what I've been trying to push through all along. I mean protection obviously is important, but I don't think that it should be a main focus in the beginning, because if someone's that afraid of what they're getting into. Then they're not ready at all to choose a path related to witchcraft or any magick in my opinion. No one should have to protect their own space right from the start as if something is already wrong or negative, you gotta have a little courage to be on the edge a little bit at least. Shadow work is very important imo. It was for me anyway. It really helps to be able to see what is in our control and what is out of our control, and to deal with both those forces instead of fearing one or the other. As if everything that's negative is out of our hands and only positive energy matters. That's not true at all. If anyone would like to know more about my personal and very natural way of doing shadow work I'd be glad to share, but there's many youtubers with great ideas too. Including this one! It is not your place to place judgment on to others, that is for God to decide in your belief, it is not up to you to try and save people. Rather spread the word of God without infringing on to the lives of others. Start wording things differently so that you don't come off as ignorant.
