I'm 69 years old and have to live with my elderly parents that are devoted "christians". So I have my own bedroom. I started my first altar without instructions. I am not allowed to be a witch so I do it in secret. I was out in their backyard that has a lot of trees and a brook. I went across the bridge and something drew my attention to my feet. There was about 4 very large acorns. First thing I thought was they were a gift from Mother Earth and I thanked her. I the found a few oak leaves that were attached to a little twig. I found other things. I decided I would put them on my chester drawers next to my TV that I don't watch. It has a black screen. I had bought a ghost that sings trick or treat and flashes different colors. I put that up there too. I had made and painted a piece of foam of a pumpkin and put it behind the ghost. To me that is a way to acknowledge the fall and Halloween. Then I asked my mother if I could buy a Jack-o-Lantern and put it on the front porch. She said yes. I almost passed out from holding my breath thinking she was going to give me a lecture on witchcraft being evil. The pumpkin is ceramic. Then I bought a couple of pomegranates and a real small pumpkin for making a pumpkin latte. All these things are my altar. And me crossing my fingers. So, in my situation I have to put my altar in my bedroom. My mother thinks I'm just decorating for fall. I just don't know what to do other than look at it and enjoy the season.

I have found doing daily "mundane" work builds the magic throughout the week. By the weekend, when I actually have time to focus on my practice for longer periods of time, I feel as if my magical energies have increased. If I don't do anything during the week I find the energies are harder to build up, as if I have lost touch. My daughter has also commented on the difference, "the house doesn't feel as magical mom".

I love this. I have much the same thinking. Magic for me is often best when kept simple. I started my path with Wicca, but looking back at my childhood, I was walking a Fae way long before that. I can remember at 5 feeling very connected to nature and all things in it. Now at 50 I'm ready to settle into my Crone stage and my mystical and elemental magical side. I love doing work with the elements associated with the Zodiac. I think what beginner witches need to know is that witchcraft is a journey that can evolve over time and will probably take them to interesting places. I may have started Wiccan and with Moon worship, but my journey had me including Toaism, Norse and Christian in my practices. This has helped me keep things balanced throughout the changes in my life. I love that the grimoire I use most is my main cookbook which has not only my favourite recipes, but some handed down from my mom.

This is an excellent video for anyone starting out! My thoughts: I think we should, as a community, consider retiring the term “baby witch.” We are capable people who are trying to tap into our inner power to manifest what we want. Maybe the term “beginner witch” would be more helpful for people to develop that mindset?
@Thewitchescookery3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much 💚 100% agree with the terminology. That is why I had put my thoughts on it in the description. I much prefer beginner or just simply witch - as we all are continuously learning. I’m so glad you said the part about how magic won’t work if you won’t get your hands dirty and do the work for something. I’m brand new to this and at the beginning stages of learning anything about it and was seriously wondering how effective doing a spell could be without doing anything else to help yourself. I was ready to dismiss it until you explained what it’s purpose is and that you still have to work for things. It sounds like it’s almost setting your mind to something and doing a ritual that gives that idea power inside of yourself to accomplish it. I like that, now I get it. You’re the first person to explain it in a way that gives me hope it can help me and for me to not feel silly doing it. It’s almost like self care, in a way. It’s taking care of yourself mentally to focus on a goal and believing you can do it. Very helpful. I get it now, thank you. I am so burnt out on religious maneuvering in the world for power and control over the population that I’m turning agnostic. I’m seeing them for who they really are and I don’t like the harm they do in the world to women or certain marginalized groups. I need a new path of my own making. One I have control over, and my own autonomy. This is looking better and better to me and I really appreciate your guidance on the subject. You just made me a believer. Because if it was always me and my own power that I have to believe in-that can only be a very good thing for me in every way possible. This has been the best and most helpful video that I have seen full of common sense and wisdom.

I really fell in love with your videos :) And I really needed to hear some of the things that you mentioned. I'm a beginner practitioner and I struggle with my path a lot. I used to identify as an atheist and not at all a spiritual person. Witchcraft slowly is helping me to look after myself better, connect to nature, and I absolutely love it. But it has a dark side for me as well. I find that I'm trying to match witches from KZbin or Ticktok. One I'm not there yet, two it puts a lot of doubt into me. I constantly think "Am I doing this right?" You know, Am I doing protection bags right? And I doing cleansing right? Do I need to say things? Ect. I have at least 15 recommended books on my TBR list because I thought I could not try anything before reading them all. I'm just not sure of anything, because I also cannot sense any energies around me, so I never know if things are working or not. Sorry for the rant, I really needed to get this off my chest. I love your spider plant, I cannot wait to watch mine grow so big :) I had mine since it was a tiny sprout with only 4 tiny leaves :)

I am so happy to hear that! 💚 I am actually an atheist / agnostic witch too - so I always say I am semi-spiritual 😄 but yes, totally agree that witchcraft is such a valuable tool for self-care and connection with the natural world 💚 to be honest, in my opinion, there is no right or wrong in witchcraft when it comes to any practice. I think everyone has to find their own way and just follow what feels right for them. I do believe witchcraft mainly happens in your head, feelings and imagination and is not necessarily something that you feel from 'outside' ☺️ therefor (at least for me), you can't really compare two witches as everybody will know what works for them best eventually. As for 'feeling energy' - I would try grounding / visualization exercises or suggestive meditation that revolve around energy work ☺️

I totally agree with mundane with magick is important. But we also have to remember when we talk about it that we might not be being mindful of disabled people like “if you’re not hustling, if you’re not trying to get a job”. Many disabled people can’t work, after all.
@Amyduckie3 жыл бұрын
Don’t want to be preachy, just it’s a sticky topic for me as a disabled witch- for a sec I wondered whether I shouldn’t bother doing money spells, ya know?
@Thewitchescookery3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree - we always have to see everything in relation to our abilities and restrictions - this was just one example that mundane and magick have to match. So if someone is unable to work in a classic sense of the word (due to disability or maybe some sort of mental health struggles), there are other ways to combine magick and mundane to make a money charm work ☺️ For example by filling out all the paperwork to collect unemployment / government aid / etc. So definitely bother with the money spells ☺️💪💪 I think they can be a great aid and motivator!

Love these tips! Any suggestions for baby witches practicing in the closet? Waiting for others to go to bed for moon rituals for example does not necessarily put me in the right headspace 😆. I’m just frustrated and going outside is not an option either, 😔 . You are a blessing and thank you. Adore your content.

Hello! I know this video has been out a while but I had to comment. I have been on "a path", not sure what path exactly, since I was 12. I am now a crone I guess. Old, elderly, gets a senior discount, etc. 😁 I am not sure what I do is called exactly. I consider myself a sipper. A sip of candles, a sip of tarot, etc. I clicked here to see your viewpoints. Very enjoyable to watch 💙 I have studied for decades and it never gets stale or boring. I look forward to watching your other videos! 🐲😁

I have been interested in witchcraft for a long time but the problem is that my family doesn't like it, and right now I don't have my own room, so it's hard to do anything without being watched by someone constantly. This video really helped me though, and soon I'll try doing what I feel is comfortable

Thank you so much! Personally I never cast circles (or any kind of protection for that matter) and in my experience / to my knowledge it is mainly done in the Wiccan tradition but I will put it on my to-film list to do a video on different ideas for protection 🙂
