God this is a pandering scene. I know it's my girl Gabrielle Union, but hoenstly....she plays games with you, you _find out_ about it, and *still* want to give her your heart with no muss or fuss? That's some BS. Makes it sound like he wasn't a good person who deserved her in the first place.

***** Leaving over him _lying_ is one thing. I too hold that truth is necessary in a relationship, though I see breaking up over something like that as highly subjective. Her being "dissatisfied" with his choice of life path is another issue entirely, though. And Frankly, she _was_ playing games, because it was through her exposure to Harvey's advice that these changes were made, yes.... but that was _still- a manipulation on her part. They were together since college and you argue that he "didn;t take their relationship seriously"....Her very _*_title_*_ in this movie was "The Girl who Wants the Ring"....So...she wanted to move _beyond_ "dating", corrrect? If she made that decision for herslef and _left_ for someone who also wanted more, then, cool. _She_ wanted him to have more stability so _her_ comfort level could be higher...ok. but a lot of people _don't_ reach what others deem their "full potential" directly after college; for some, it takes time. Again, love aside, if she didn;t want to wait anymore, instead of manipulation, she should have _left_. Forcing someone to change for you is as bad as changing on someone's whim other than your own. Yes, it's great that someone can inpsire you, but the actions of all these women went beyond mere "inspiration". and not every man needs "a good woman" to come into his life and give him direction. Again, this is blatant Rom-Com wish fulfillment. The *pandering* I spoke of previously comes in with that whole "female Wish fulfillment" thing; there are many a woman who want to "be the reason" for a man to change his ways, and his whole speech about wanting to do it for her, _then_ for himself epitomizes that. Now, that feeling is all well and good, but *real love* isn't about initiating changes based on a partners contrived actions, it's about discussing the problems and reaching *compromise*. This man didn't compromise with his women; he _caved_ when she put pressure on him. This is NOT a lesson real couples should follow to be healthy. As to the race thing, while i personally don't see it as an issue; they were good together for a time before, and skin color in matters of love should be meaningless to those involved if the affection is real.

***** But you _make my points for me_ in your last paragraph, Lady! This is a Rom-Com, and a book promtion; that *doesn't mean* that the information is _universally true_, or that men in the real world will all "fit" these stereotypes! Secondly, while loving someone and wantin to try _is_ noble, hon...there are just sometimes one _has_ to move on for themselevs. And that is usually the better option than giving ultimatiums, because the majority of changes made like that don't last long. Finally, on your first paragrpah; speaking here as a grown, educated male who loves anime and toons and maintains his own place while helping family, a _lot_ of what you mentioned is kind of superficial. "Doing something with one's life" is _highly_ subjective; it means different things to different people, and doesn't necessarily mean he "didn;t take her seriously" as to her place in his life. Various successful individuals didn;t make their major moves until well into their 30s or 40s; doesn;t mean their lives are wasted. Again, as to the racial implications... lady, that;s highly speculative. he seemed to value her right off, even if he wasn;t where she would ideally want a mate to be, and her skin color didn't seem, to my mind, to have anything to do with that. Again, i understand the female need for security... but this is a _relationship_, not a "Paint by Numbers" chart. BOTH parties involved have to want the same things, and if, at some time, people grow apart, then we can't always assume its due to lack of love. Just different wants and life paths
