I would say cat behaviorist (maybe some vets and trainers too) but I think on the internet anyone can pretend to be an expert so... For the headpad I watched to whole video but I don't see why it's "bad" in itself, maybe I missed something? For the belly my girl really dislikes it even tho she let me touch her anywhere else and even play kindly with her tail. If I remember correctly all of my mother's cats didn't like the belly rub either. Well long story short every cat is different, even tho they share the same anatomy. So... just like humans I guess.

Every cat is different. Some of mine love belly rubs and some will bite and scratch you if you touch their bellies. Most of mine are fine with stroking their heads One has a sensitive back and doesn’t want the spine stroked You just have to listen to your cat and they will let you know what they like and dislike.

I have had cats the majority of my life. I believe the longest time without at least one was after the last one I had before the current ones passed away from cancer. I was devastated but not ready to move on very quickly. Several months later a friend had a stray that was in her neighborhood that was getting beat up, so the cat distribution system brought him to me. Now, almost nine years later, he lets me pet him anywhere. He loves belly rubs, having his ears played with, and the weirdo's favorite thing is having is butt smacked. 😂 When I stop doing it he turns to glare at me and then chatters his disapproval. And if I stop petting him before HE is ready, I can expect to be bitten. 😂 It's not a hard painful bite, no marks are even left, it's just enough to get the attention back on him. The little girl we took in also allows belly rubs and head pets. She will headbutt you until you pet her. She doesn't like butt smacks though.

My Old Grey Tuxedo named 'Remi' won't let me pet anywhere but her head- She's a sensitive lady and if you get below her Shoulders Hiss/She'll bite. Loves her chin/cheek/around-the-ear rubbings. Just pay attention to Kitty when petting and it's pretty easy to notice when they don't like something (it is easy to space out sometimes though)- She actually loves light rubbing on the inside of the ears- not deep, just where there's still fur and only in small doses, I suspect because it's overstimulating, like being tickled.

My tuxedo cat is a tail wagger while he's purring. I know he's thinking as I pet him. But he meanwhile loves being petted. It's up to individual cats as to what wagging their tail means. Sometimes my cat will whack his tail hard against me while he enjoys petting. I don't know why. But I follow his lead that petting is what he wants and somehow slapping me with his tail is part of his enjoyment. Don't expect this with every cat. It just happens to be one of his methods of communication. He's also extremely chatty and inventive with what he says to me.

My ginger and white cat does that too. If I stop petting him he'll put his head into my hand for more. He's the only one who does this while purring loudly (and he has a LOUD purr). One of my other cats is an ex-feral. We've let him come to us in his time. It's taken 2 years but every day he does something new. Today I was in the bathroom and heard scratching at the door. When I came out he started winding himself round my legs and brushing my legs with his face while purring then pushing his head into my hand for pets. I think he's finally decided that I'm _his_ human and it was a really lovely feeling. He's also adapted well to being a house cat. It's taken a long time for him to really trust us but it's been worth the wait and it had to be in his time. He knows he is loved and is now returning that love. He's a beautiful black cat with the silkiest, shiniest coat of all my cats and beautiful golden eyes (I have 8 - 4 black and 4 of other colours). All my cats are rescues from one bad situation or another.

One of our cats (a void) needs to have his tail still to be pet. If he starts wagging it even slightly, he's getting agitated. If he's slapping it, he'll bite, hard enough to break skin. Our other cat always wags his tail when pet, sometimes twitchesit pretty hard, yet has never once swatted or tried to bite when pet, even when it's less comfortable for him. Except when he hurt his lower back, he did a warning "air-bite" around three times in the span of a few months while he was hurting, when we touched that area specifically.

I don't usually pet Catface on his head, but he does get a little kiss on the top of his head from time to time, and when he's in my lap, he'll turn his head toward me like "kiss please" When it comes to petting him, I'll let him pet himself with my hand, hanging it down at my side and letting him rub up against it. @marykayhiggins8434 the massage is an actual method. Hold the ears gently btwn the thumb and forefinger and make a "C". Then move to a new spot. Dogs like it as well. Just don't repeat movement in same spot. I hope that makes sense

My cat does nudge my hand with her head and then I give her a head rub, avoiding her ears, until she turns away. Same with scritches on her jaw or neck or shoulders; she will close her eyes and I'll say "Kitty spa day!" and then stop when she moves away. When I need to pick up my cat, I get in front of her and then go to the side to pick her up. If she's been in her room/the office for a while and I've been somewhere else, I hold my hand out for her to sniff it and when she nudges her head I'll pet her, and if she doesn't, I'll keep my hand still and she's apt to lick it. She's not so fond of being brushed, but finger combed is ok.

Much of this is absolute nonsense. I have a 5 year old cat who was feral that became my indoor-outdoor cat. 1. My ladycat loves to push her head in my hand, so that I can rub her head with my thumb. She also loves it when I gently stroke her ears. If I pet her belly, she places her legs over my arm and holds me, closing her eyes. When she grooms herself, I place my arm in front of her and I get a cat shower, all my arm hairs are put into place again, dead skin cells are removed. Cats don't mind if you pet them against the grain, sometimes they love it when you give them a good scratch on the back. My cats also don't mind if I stroke their whiskers. My macho cat takes my fingers in his mouth and holds me, like a hug. Most important thing: If you notice that your cat doesn't like something, don't do it. They'll let you know. Conclusion: All these advices come straight from a book, not from an experienced cat lover.

In 50+ years I've never had or seen a cat that didn't like having their ears touched. First comes basic trust, don't sneak up or surprise them etc. A gentle ear pull actually releases endorphins. I've had may cats! There is no general rule for cats. All of the ones I've had love head rubs! The will nudge me to continue and again and again. I've had 4 that will literally roll over for belly rubs. They love it! The male cats love a belly rub. Females dont. Every cat is different, and you will learn quickly what they like or dont like. My Mr. Bentley demands belly rubs! He rolls over for his rub at least 6 to 10 times a day. As with any animal or human for that matter, you just go with their cues and learn what they like.

Except my cat likes to play chase, loves being pet everywhere. If she runs it means, no more pets but come chase me. She chases me back. It’s fun. She makes this come chase me sound which is different from her other meows. And she zoomies but then checks to see if I’m coming. If I don’t she will give me complete catitude. If she doesn’t want her ears touched it means they are bothering her and need me to clean them out for her. She’s prone to ear infections so we clean her ears more often than not. Although if she’s sleeping do not disturb her. She will give you the death glare. 😅
