Give both the Cpt and the Chappers a selection of maybe 3 guitars, 3 amps and 3 pedals (of the same type) and have them choose their favourite combination without seeing what they pick. The pickups on a jaguar aren't that different from a strat, aside from the little "teeth" on the side that do absolutely nothing, the majority of the sound change comes from the 1M potentiometers instead of 250k on a strat, which allows a lot more high-frequency to pass through. And if you keep the same volume out of the amp, adding high-range is about the same as removing mid and low-end, which makes the "castrated strat" comment quite apt. Also, if you really want to get a good phat sound out of a stock jaguar, put it in rhythm circuit (horn switch in "up" position), roll down the treble (nearest to bridge) to about 1/3rd and put a bit of overdrive on it.

@bami26 жыл бұрын
@@gvtshorts2024 The slant adds treble to the bridge pickup of a strat, since the poles for the thinner strings are closer to the bridge (or further away from the neck, where the strings vibrate the largest amplitude), they sound brighter. So if you were to slant the bridge pickup of a jag, it would sound even brighter than it already is, which would probably get you on some WWF watchlist for destroying the ability of nearby bats to echolocate. But the change you would get from un-slanting the strat pickup pales in comparison to installing 1000k pots in a strat, as that would be a true castratocaster.
@justinbouchard6 жыл бұрын
I build and modify tube amplifiers. Generally there are a very small db of frequencies 'removed' when you add more of any equalizing option that is a passive eq circuit. All you can do is cut frequencies, either high pass or low pass, based on the values you have chosen with your pots/resistors and caps in the tone circuit. You can download a very small program called Tone Stack Calculator that will allow you to play with these values and the circuits while giving you a spectrum read out of the frequencies.

I converted over to the G&L Strat in 1996 while looking to buy a a Fender Strat. I remember playing about 12 or so Fenders and while taking a break to decide which one to purchase I noticed a lone Strat style guitar sitting on a floor stand. I walked over to it and read the G&L Legacy label and thought,... who the hell is G&L. I asked the sales person for some information and when he said it was Leo Fender & George Fullerton who designed them I just had to give it a spin. I sat down, plugged in and played,... 15 minutes later I asked him to ring it in at the registrar. In my opinion Leo had improved the sound over his Fender design along with a much better tremolo system with the Dual Fulcrum pivot point bridge. They still sound like the Fender Strats but much more refined and rich. Doesn't surprise me at all that Chapper's ears leaned towards the G&L sonic qualities. The beauty of the "Zed" coil design is that it provides a similar warmth as a P-90, cancels hum like a humbucker, but still maintains the articulation of a single coil that to a degree is otherwise lost. I agree with Rob that a humbucker in the bridge position with the Z-coil in the neck would be a stellar combination. I would also be interested in how an overwound set of these with a tap would perform. I feel that next to a set of custom voices P-90 these are by far some of the best sounding non-active single coils on the market. I have played the American and off shore Comanche back to back and there is a noticeable difference in the way that the coils react to volume and tonal adjustments. So if someone were to be in the market of modding their guitar with a set of these IMO they would do better to spend the money for the American G&L pickups. As always an impeccable performance Rob.

I have a 1991 G&L ASAT Commemorative edition. and it's refreshing to hear someone who impartially loves their sound above the Fenders. After all they would have been Fenders if Leo had remained with Fender. Many guitarists judge a guitar by what's written on the headstock they don't really listen to the tone. p90s are probably the best sounding pickups. If they didn't hum I'm sure they'd be in way more guitars

what about the p rail humbuckers with the p90s in them? would the humbuckers get rid of that? I'm new to this part of guitar
@ithemba5 жыл бұрын
@@Sam-me5pl while having a p-rail in the p90 position, they basically work like any other p90 and hum just like any other - as does the rail when selected at its own. you have to activate both the rail and the p90 to have the cancellation.

I’m not a guitarist by any stretch of the imagination but I could pick out the ones I liked and indeed the differences, BUT I had the massive advantage of being able to see them 😂 Chappers once again shows his bionic ear off and the ability to throw the words together to describe what he’s hearing. I don’t watch many ‘guitar’ channels but Andertons keep putting out videos I want to watch, even as a complete layman / I’m a drummer I like watching the Cap’n and Chappers. Proper! I won’t ask for a comparison video, I’m clueless! 😂

For the benefit of our foreign friends, a P45 is the official tax form you get when you are fired or leave a job in the UK.

A bit off-topic, perhaps, but can someone explain the logic behind the G&L split pickups? The concept, I absolutely love, but... why aren't they the other way around? Like, have the poles under the wound strings closer to the bridge for a tighter response, great for riffs, and have the poles under the unwound strings closer to the neck, for a warmer sound. That makes so much more sense in my mind.
6 жыл бұрын
Yes. Same goes with the strat bridge pu
@letmeooze6 жыл бұрын
I won't claim to know the actual reason but here's how I think about. The guitar features bass and treble tone knobs that can take away unwanted bass or treble. So why not start from the clearest highs and fullest bass and then subtract? As someone that loves clarity, nothing drives me crazy more than pickups that are purposely darker at 10 on the Volume and tone knobs and only get darker from there. It's much easier to take away frequencies after the fact then trying to add frequencies that aren't there to begin with. This way people don't have to buy aftermarket pickups just because the guitar was made for people that don't like treble. It allows everyone to tweak to taste.
@guydude65466 жыл бұрын
Leo basically just took the concept of a precision bass pickup and put it on a guitar splitting the coil to silent the hum while still having the clarity of a sc, i think the logic there was to have a wider bass and tighter treble (idealized for use on bass) also the upper part of the pickup is situated right where the natural harmonic occurs so i think that had to do with it, hope that helps

Good question Mr. Blacksteen! I'd be interested in knowing the answer to that myself.

My guess is the 1 cm or less in between the halves doesn't make a noticable enough difference one way or the other. Probably need a greater change in distance to notice a positioning change.

You need to do this challenge again but with a different guitar player. Rob is great dont get me wrong but he's a shredder and some of those guitars I think require a more versatile and subtle kind of player. I'm thinking Danish Pete.
