The perplexing thing about it is that we have the means to produce goods and services we need many times over. It's not like our ability to produce would suddenly disappear. It is that we will suddenly be stricken by an inability to pay for the goods and services we need. Maybe someone can come up with some really creative financing that will stave off a financial crisis.

My ex bought a 45k BMW after coming out of college with 55k of debt with a useless Masters degree. I invested 7 years into that relationship and took public transportation to save money for most of those years in order to buy us a house one day. The last year together she became bossy and arrogant. But I walked away after she bought that car. That was 7 years ago. Today I make a very comfortable salary; have a nice savings account and own property. I am single and enjoy everyday of my life. I am so thankful I don’t have her debt hanging over me. I do date but it stops there. Occasionally my ex’s sister has contacted me and invited me to one of their family gatherings to which I have politely declined. But I did find out she is now a struggling single mother. Stay focused on yourselves gents.

That sounds fair on paper, but there is incentive economically to forgive some loans, especially during a crisis like the current COVID-19 pandemic. Economies are dependent on people going out and spending money on things and stuff, circulating money through it. Forgiving loans gives the population a LOT more spendable cash which could potentially make the economic impact of the pandemic less severe. Trump's payouts are meant to have the same effect. It's easy to go the fairness route, but if you look at it economically, it's beneficial to bail out indebted citizens most of the time.

As someone who failed out of college on my dad's GI bill, and lost scholarships the first time around (because I was a low self esteem havin dumb@$$), joined the miitary, earned my own GI bill, and is now getting a 4.0 in physics with all kinds of scholarship opprotunities... ... Yeah, she bombed something. A "full ride" scholarship or GI bill isnt going to keep paying for a chronic failure. You need good grades to get those benefits in the first place, and then you need to keep good grades to keep those benefits for the "full ride". Usually the specifics of the scholarship will stipulate things like 3.0 or 3.5 gpa or higher must be maintained. For GI bill, they refused to pay for D letter grades even if they are technically passing grades. Its pathetic that she's trying to blame her financial advisors for some BS bait and switch, anybody who's gotten and then kept a full ride scholarship knows they cant slag off in classes and expect to keep it. Whatever she did to lose that full ride was 100% her fault. And if she wasnt maintaining the GPA to keep a full ride scholarship, then it almost doesnt matter what her degree was in anyway, she was probably doomed to not working in her given field anyway. I had a buddy who took 5.5 years to get a 4 year mechanical engineering degree done, with a C average, and didnt build up any work experience as an intern during that time. The result was he was basically an unhireable engineer after that. Took him 6 years of struggling with college debt of working as a UPS package handler, a substitute teacher, and part time at a church at various times, before he finally landed a job in CAD design for a small company that sets up canning factories (which as far as engineering goes, isnt exactly glamorous, but at least its something).

I’ve received quite a few scholarships, thankfully, so I can speak to this somewhat. Scholarships and financial aid packages are basically contracts that stipulate monetary amount, what is and isn’t covered by the scholarship (e.g., tuition and housing may be covered but not registration fees and food), scholarship/aid duration, disbursement (when/how often/in what increments financial aid is given to the student), benefits (health care, etc.), student responsibilities (GPA minimums, work-study, etc.)... All of this is laid out BEFORE the student can even accept the scholarship.

@Nicholas_Terry
@Nicholas_Terry 3 жыл бұрын
@@sarahbaer1593 why not? Loaning money represents a cost. Why should someone loan money out for free, regardless of the purpose? If we abolished interest, literally no one would loan money. Thus college loans (or any loan for that matter) would no longer exist. Loaning money represents an opportunity cost to the lender in that they lose opportunity to use said money once they lend it out. They have a right to expect payment from the borrower to recover that cost. This is how literally anything works in an economy. Thousands of students pay back their loans just fine. If you choose to attend college for a degree in something that has little or no value in the marketplace, that’s your fault. A certain onus falls upon the borrower to spend the money they borrow wisely. It is not my responsibility to bail you out when you make a poor decision, nor is it the responsibility of the lender. What you really are advocating for (or should be) is college being affordable. In order to do that, we must allow free market forces to compete and drive costs down. College only got to the ridiculously high price it is currently because government got involved in the first place.

One thing a lot of people don't take into account is that not only do you have to pay for college, but a lot of people aren't working for 4 years. If you get one person living on campus borrowing every dime they can who is borrowing 35k a year, and another who just goes right to work and is earning 50k a year, its not like at 22 the college person is just behind by how much debt they have, they also missed out on a lot of potential wages. Even if the college grad averages 10k more per year over their lifetime but they are starting off 100k+ in the hole when they graduate at 22 but the person who just went to work invested heavily during that time and already has 100k in the markets, the college grad might never catch up in terms of net worth. Theoretically if it takes 10 years to pay that 100k back and get to 0 net worth, while the other guy just watches his invested 100k grow at 8% per year, he's already up to 220k. If he saves 10k per year on top of that compounding, he'd be up to 368k. If you aren't getting a degree that lets you make six figures and you aren't doing everything you can while in college to minimize borrowing, your doing it wrong lol.

@VeryTalented Channel Name I don't live in the US and here credit cards are the worst financial thing you could do, but in the US because of the credit score system, if you've never used a credit card or made small loans you're never gonna be able to get a mortgage. So using a credit card is a good way to build credit score and if you pay thing back quickly, you'll have good credit score and be able to get a mortgage. Pretty funny since in my country if they see that you have done previous loans or use a credit card often, even if you paid everything off in a timely manner, they will be reluctant to accept a mortgage, which is totally the opposite of the US.

Not all debt is bad. Debt on owning assets that appreciate in value is good as long as you can pay it off (they are far and few between, but consider: houses, gold, businesses, dividend paying shares etc). Debt only sucks when you're paying the bank for owning non appreciating assets (there are absolutely tonnes of these: electronics, cars, vacations, luxuries). People who say debt is bad do not trust themselves - which is very honest, but it doesn't mean debt is necessarily bad. It is the only way business can possibly be viable.

I highly recommend trade schools. I grew up on a farm in the south of England. I got good grades at A-level so was pushed by teachers towards university. After one year of Biomedical science at Bristol I dropped out after realising it just wasn't for me and earning potential was poor for such a competitive sector. I went to an IET college trade school (£6.5k) to become a level 3 electrician, subcontracted as an electricians mate for £17 an hour straight out of the classroom. That moved to £22 an hour after gaining my JIB Gold Card. I now work as an electrical engineer for a Swedish medical company some years later on £45k basic (£55k-£60k OTE) with car, private healthcare pension etc. I am 28 years old. Going to tradeschool opened so many doors. I highly recommend them - dont stop learning and find your niche. Sorry for the rant. Good luck.

I disagree. You absolutely _should_ move out, unless it leads to debts. Learning to live alone is an important skill. Of course you should visit a few times per year, unless you live in a different country and it's _too_ inconvenient/expensive. You absolutely should stay in contact though. Not daily, but you should _still_ call from time to time. Most parents love that! I use WhatsApp and will probably keep on doing that, unless they build in backdoors for whatever reason. For example if certain countries make some laws which lead to this requirement. You can share pictures, chat and call through it. Also I recommend to _not_ buy any house, unless you become insanely rich, which everyone with a starting budget of ~10.000€ can through stuff like artworks, land investment, crypto etc. Maybe even less than that is sufficient. Also don't rely on fiat money. The inflation in the single digits, which is oficially shown, is "adjusted" and the actual inflation lies between 7 to 13% per year, maybe even more. Also it's possible pretty much anywhere that a hyperinflation happens and you'll lose all your savings. NEVER INVEST IN STOCKS, unless you're a professional and you're using disposable money. It might look tempting, but for the average person it's more comparable to gambling than anything else. And try to _always_ stay humble. Don't tell anyone how much you _actually_ have and lie if someone asks. Never get debts, not even a mortgage! It will bind you to one place for at least one or two decades and especially nowadays you should _always_ be able to move. Even if you plan to stay forever at a place keeping that ability available is important. For example if the laws in the country where you live become _too_ insane or you simply decide to move for whatever reason. You'll never know what you'll want in a few years.

It depends on what you’re trying to achieve in life. Most careers in the modern day require college degrees, and work that doesn’t require college degrees is often low-paying or boring as hell.
@stephenshelton4267
@stephenshelton4267 3 жыл бұрын
@That One The most popular reason a college degree is required for many high paying jobs is simply because the degree is required. In 1998 I was eating lunch with two classmates from my computer science program. We were all graduates and working "the dream". One friend said she had interviewed a candidate that was fully knowledgeable on handling the position, but his education came in the way of certifications and a tech school instead of a university experience. She turned him down because she felt he was lesser and was trying to cheat the system. That's why so many jobs require a degree: it's required because reasons. If you notice most job applications are handled by the ladies in HR and not the managers who really know what's going on. Plus there's the reality that universities aren't institutes for studying STEM with a few joke programs running around. Universities are joke programs with a few STEM degrees running around. In order to maximize revenue, all K-12 kids are told the lies that the path to success requires college, and that any degree is a good degree. That shot up the demand for college. Now schools are catering to low-information, lazy, and the disinterested by suppling easy degrees to satisfy demand. Also, even if you study a field with intellectual merit with marketable job skills, your degree is held ransom in the form of funding tens of thousands of dollars in mandatory worthless classes. At least half of my courses were irrelevant to my degree. The university system is antiquated and woefully inefficient at preparing people for careers, but it's as efficient as a Disney theme park in sucking every nickel possible from its students.
@stephenshelton4267
@stephenshelton4267 3 жыл бұрын
@@vincelestrade3758 As for boredom I think _all_ work becomes boring. I know many people who went to college for a degree with marketable skills only to abandon those careers a decade or two later. I got a computer science degree in 1997 and there's no way in hell I'd ever return to the field of software development. Another problem with higher education is that K-12 graduates are encouraged to _immediately_ head to college. They have minimal experience with the "real" world and their ideas on what makes a great career can be colored by TV. For example, when CBS romanticized crime investigations with CSI and its 72 spinoffs, it caused a big increase in the number old college students seeking degrees in that field! College students are too young and their view of the real world too narrow to go from being a TikToking teenager to paying the cost of a house for a degree.

One thing that really annoys me is when people say they got their degree, but then later realized it wasn’t for them. How can that be? I’ve known what I wanted to do with my life ever since middle school. I took my classes seriously, got good grades and involved myself with the right people. When it came time for me to go to college I picked my major, took out loans, attended my classes, graduated and I’m now paying back my loans because I got the job I wanted. What does everyone else do when they’re in middle school/high school? Party? Do drugs? Be promiscuous? That’s exactly how you get a society of parasitic freeloaders that are burdening society more than contributing.

Take a look at your state's university system. There is usually a MASSIVE difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition, and being from that state makes you more competitive in the admissions process. Even private colleges sometimes take residency into account, I think.

Did he actually make good money, but instead of addressing his debt, used it for vacations and cars and other forms of consumer spending? The funniest thing is that these people think they can live off $40k a year once they retire. That’s hilarious, they haven’t spent less than $40k in a year once in their adult life.

I think of taxes and fees as normal, but owing your entire life in debt, from which you cant simply opt out like a phone bill is definately not normal, its modern day slavery. Maybe our cultures differ that much, I just dont understand how can people think drowning in red numbers is a lifestyle, it simply doesnt happen here and if it does you have successfully become poor, which you will remain because even if you get an actual income your life is still crippled by everything you owe, so suddenly things like enjoying going on vacation is off the table for life

people severely underestimate community college and getting scholarships. My area has one of the best community colleges, so many different programs you can get an associates degree in or certificates and nowhere near the cost of a college or university. I got an AAS degree, a got a job that payed for half of my tuition so I decided to get my BA because I could then afford it. Some large companies pay for full tuition if it applies to your field, I hope this helps someone!

I did 2 years of CC before going to university. there are so many grants and scolarships that will help pay up to full tuition for CC. i didn't have to borrow or pay a dime for my Community college education for which i am grateful as the degree i got there is utterly useless (some art associates degree.) I wised up ag got into a lucrative field (computer programming) and got a degree in that and finished my 4 year with a little over 18k in loans. The very next thing I did was afirm the wonderful relationship i had with my then girlfriend and got married. we lived so far beneath our means for a paltry 3 years we were able to pay off our combined 40K+ in loans and started having overhead; and were able to buy a house. it is all about how hard you work and how much reality you understand. I could have gotten my 4 year degree in my art field. and i could have loved every second of it. but that would have left me as an unemployed artist working at a big box store somewhere probably. People say to do what you love and you will never work a day in your life. Well you won't get paid for it either. do what you can tolarate without breaking and do what you love in your own time.

saoud saoud those are some high expectations. Firstly, Will you be a Doctor or a Medical Professional? There’s a difference, since the term Dr is much more general than you think. Secondly, odds of you going into debt are high considering the economic state of America, but thats not bad. You can get a part-time job to help pay your debt. It will be even better if you get a paid internship. Scholarships are hard to come by if you don’t do anything worth mentioning that is relevant to your field of study.
