Chalk markers are very common, especially in bright neon colors, and cheap so you don't have to worry about finding them. Any sign store, hobby or art shop, and even some big box stores will have them.

Wow! Fantastic review. This is exactly the kind of full coverage that I was hoping for about a game this complex. I think that there are a lot of people that are in the category of knowing of TI but never having tried it because of these, as Maggie says, "barriers to entry". You two are the best. Thanks for another great video!

I’m glad it’s fairly complicated. I have about 45 roll/flip and writes, and they vary in complexity from very simple to quite heavy. The heaviest one I have is Hadrian’s Wall, although i also enjoy the easier ones. Some of them literally just involve a relatively simple sheet and a handful of dice, like Castles of Burgundy Dice, which is still very fun. But I do love the more complex ones that also involve cards, counters, extra boards etc. I am really excited for Inscription. Can’t wait to get it. Great Intro video! :)

Well now I'm have to volunteer to do a teach up of Twilight Imperium XD I feel like every boardgamer has to play it at least once! Great explanation of TI Inscription, I was kinda reluctant to try it but now I'm more curious of it.

An awesome review. And excited to see you are keeping it! It is probably not one for my collection as I don’t really have people that would play it and I would most likely grab Hadrians Wall for a crunchy roll and write! Love the detail on the review and even the warning on the orange chalky markers!! Have an awesome weekend!! ❤️

The comments on theme are interesting. I haven't played this yet but it seems like the theme of this game is playing another game (which has a theme). The theme in actual Twilight Imperium is very present and tied to everything, and it seems like this game is trying to make you feel like you are playing Twilight Imperium with everything you are doing tied to the mechanics of that game. So for people that have played Twilight Imperium I think the theme will come through because it will remind them of playing that game where the theme is better integrated. But for people who haven't played they have nothing to draw from and it doesn't matter that the mechanics are trying to match up. Can't wait to give it a try though.
@ThinkerThemer2 жыл бұрын
Yes we definitely agree that it will spark memories for those familiar with TI4 that will help it feel more thematic. But overall, the theme and mechanisms are not hugely integrated. I'm not sure that in general you get the sense of any kind of story pushing you through the game or driving your choices (even if considered from a generic space perspective!) It still entertained us from more of an abstract experience though, and we hope you enjoy it too! 😊

Wow! Based on what you were saying for most of the review, especially regarding the limited re-playability - and not as much chaining, I would have thought that you were going to say that this wasn’t a game for the two of you! You surprised me by saying that you liked it and that it is staying in your collection!

I'm slowly getting into roll and writes (backed Aquamarine on Kickstarter and just picked up Rolling Realms by Stonemaier (for $18 AUD!)). I feel a big part of their appeal is that they are easy to pick up and quick to play. This does not look like either of those things but it does look like a more accessible alternative to Twilight Imperium. Nice review!

Thanks for the review! I pre-ordered this from my FLGS. I do wish it brought forth the feeling of TI4 more. Plus I do prefer the more combo'y roll-and-writes. Well, have to give it a try and see how it lands with my game group. See you both next time! :D

Great review and very helpful. I was on the fence with this one. I think this is one I would enjoy playing, but don't need to own. Hopefully one of my friends will buy it or I can try it at a convention. Thank you!

Hadrian's Wall takes it for the satisfaction of the combos and the physicality of the components. It gives you more of a feeling of being clever ☺️ this one has *slightly* more interaction though as you need to keep an eye on your neighbours Warfare sheet...! We'd also rather play HW at 1 or 2 players to avoid the A.I.

I'm so intrigued by this game. I'm wondering if this is something I want in terms of an "epic roll and write." Is this something I'm looking for? I'm not sure, but this has definitely peaked my interest. I love Twilight Imperium and would love to try this game out! Thank you for the awesome review!!

Oh it is a chalk marker, that’s more concerning than I thought. I was worried if they dried up, finding a coloured dry erase marker that will show up would be hard. Maybe they’ll sell replacement markers. In any case, I want to try this game. Find out what the Twilight Imperium universe is like.

Thanks for another great video! I was thinking about getting Hadrian's Wall but now I'm a bit torn. Aside from the writing element would you say they aren't at all comparable or are there more similarities and do you have a preference? I love the look of this one but Hadrian's Wall has got a lot of fans!

How does this compare to Hadrian's Wall?
@jasonc27842 жыл бұрын
Does this game feel too luck driven? Aside from the player powers, is everyone's goal to try and excel in each player board equally? This would drive the game play towards who happened to pick the right board before the dice were rolled. It doesn't sound like there would be much decision.
@JJ_TheGreat2 жыл бұрын
34:14 I REALLY do NOT like when the solo game gives you a table, telling you how well you did based on your score. I feel that that is artificial and a cop out. I do not like “beat your own score” type of solo modes (I am not saying this one is - but the game is still telling me how well my score is - and that is a no no for me) and would definitely prefer going up against an automa, even if the automa is predictable.
@biffybeans2 жыл бұрын
OMG I can’t even look at those boards! Blows my mind how some games can be so visually overwhelming.
@ThinkerThemer2 жыл бұрын
It is A LOT. It helps that only one board is active at a time but choosing a board can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. It definitely looks more complex than it plays!

Watching the video now. For whatever reason, I am hearing static. Did you have a problem with your microphone/audio for this video? I just wanted to let both of you know, so that you can check into this as a corrective action going forward. Thanks.

I heard no static.

Oh that is super strange as we can't hear it here - was it throughout the entire video or at a specific point?
@JJ_TheGreat2 жыл бұрын
@@ThinkerThemer I am using an Apple iPad. When listening to the video on high volume (the highest volume levels), I heard the static - throughout the video. However, when I turned the volume down - even a little bit, I didn’t hear it and it sounded normal. This is the only video in which I am having this issue with so far. I just updated KZbin, to check, but the same thing happened in the video afterward - it didn’t make a difference for me. I haven’t tried watching the video on my laptop computer (or even my phone), but I will - and then I will reply to let you know how the video sounds on those devices.
@JJ_TheGreat2 жыл бұрын
@@ThinkerThemer I just checked the sound of the video on my Android phone. It is the same thing. I hear static on the high volume levels, but don't hear it as much, since it is harder to detect, at lower volume. I haven't checked my computer, but I assume I would probably hear the same.

Thank you we will definitely check that out - we have had a little trouble with our mics lately so we might need to hard reset them. Thanks for the heads up!
