As a 57-y old who has consciously lived as a Randian for the past 32 years, I am pleasantly amazed at having acquired a few new insights from this lecture. I yearn to share this with my pragmatist brother, only to realize that it's hopeless. The realization leaves me sad and lonely, but that is a small price to pay for the benefits derived from standing on the shoulders of these giants.

It's also important to look into the etymology of words - their linguistic origin or what they originally meant. These days of course just type in the word along with 'etymology' or look up an etymological dictionary. I've made many breakthroughs in understanding that way, especially with words that seem at first glance to have multiple meanings that all turn out to be one.

Interesting example of how hypertext allegedly 'liberates' readers from the 'tyranny of the line' bmo 'networks without top or bottom' etc. Kant was a genius, then. He did all that without the benefit of hypertext!

Persuasive writing - sounds like you're headed into Aristotelian Rhetoric territory.
