After a year and a half with our first whippet we adopted our second and I couldn't recommend it more. They were pure joy and we decided to once again multiply our pleasure by getting a puppy. He is absolutely a love and aside from the usual puppy drama a treasure. A week after we brought him home our oldest female was diagnosed with a life threatening illness and we lost her this last Fall. I still miss her terribly, Our little guy will soon be a year old and our breeder is having another litter next month. We may have an addition to our family. They are like potato chips, one is not enough! ❤️

Hello Jess. Thank you for your video(s). We now have three whippets. My one girl, Lulu, is almost 16 years old and is our sweetest dog thus far. She has had no major health issues. Not bad for going on 16. She has gone deaf at about 13, but I always used hand signals along with voice commands her whole life, so now she knows to look for those hand signals. We have a five year old, Tippi, and she is my wild child. She's like a free-spirited wild filly. Both Lulu and Tippi are white/party colors with taupe brindle. We recently got a third whippet (crazy IKR?!), she's six months old and her name is Stormy. She's tuxedo and very smart, beautiful and gets into all sorts of trouble, as is typical of any puppy. She has been very good at the puppy training classes, and we'll be starting intermediate training in January. Tippi is a brilliant older sister and is over-the-moon for her little sister, Stormy. They play non-stop, until they collapse in the evening. We have half an acre in the backyard, fenced, and they run like mad together. Lulu is the old girl and doesn't like them getting up in her face and will let them know. We call her the Alligator . . . Prior to my whippets, we had greyhounds, a male and a female. They were lovely, and just the best furbies. At that time, we lived on the other coast (of the U.S.), right by the beach, and they just loved running up and down the beach, playing in the sand and surf. I hope you get a second pooch for Jess, as whippets are very social creatures. Thank you for your videos, you are very sweet.

I used to walk two big greyhounds on a split lead (I didn't have a "splitter" - I bought it that way as a split lead) and they easily walked side by side on one side of me. They seemed to get confidence and security from feeling the other's side.

I rescued a bonded pair of whippets - they were F 12 and M 18mths old. That was 7 years ago. The only boundary that I have stood firm on is no dogs in the bed, but they will often sleep on the bed under their own blanket. They have their own coloured collar and lead so that I know which lead to manage when one of them gets into something I don’t want them getting into. I did run a splitter for a while but prefer them on separate leads as they can mostly walk their own walk. I love having two!

Super helpful! Thank you so much; I've been wanting a companion for my 2.5 yr old boy for a while now but my husband isn't keen. It's good to know that some of the things I thought would be an issue, don't sound like they were at all!

Getting a waist lead worked well for me with 2 whippets. Lol! Whippet legs in bed...they have pushing superpowers. Lifting the duvet whilst sleeping is a human superpower I learned too. My two whippets never snuggled together. They played but I had to keep an eye on them because on occasions it escalated a little bit too much for my comfort. They stole each other’s beds constantly. We only have 1 whippet now and she is 14 1/2. I’ve experienced life with both 1 and 2. I would say make sure they really like each other before you commit to inviting a new whippet into your home.

@Jess the Human and Worried Whippet . We lost Molly just over 2 years ago now at 14. We have Fudge still. She is definitely a different dog now she is an ‘only child’ 🤭. I’m not looking forward to going through the loss again. That’s something else to keep in mind, it is truly devastating when they go. I second the waist lead. I've walked 2 smaller dogs with my whippet. I found it easiest to have one on my waist and the other(s) in my hand. Thank you so much for sharing! I am considering getting a second whippet (though likely not for a couple years yet).

Jess is so sweet (both :D ). I have got 2 girls, have had them almost 4mnths now. Got them as teenagers, Goldie is 19 mnts and Fair is 16 mnths, ome from the same kennel. They play together, eat together from one plate (tried 2, but no, which is so ok and less to wash, hehe), they are "killing each other" and yelling at each other when chasing after the ball, they sleep together and apart. When they are 2, you do not have to activate them much, they play together. Goldie was mobbed as a puppy by other whippets so she does not want to be alone. Fair is companion and a playmate. .. love them both, my small fleas :) Whippets er the best dogs ever!!!

Our "worried whippet" had terrible separation anxiety when left home alone, panic attack level. We foster failed a street dog rescue from Oman (Wadi dog), it was the best decision. We now joke that our Wadi dog is our whippet's "emotional therapy support" dog because we are finally able to leave our whippet home alone without worrying what we'll come back too. We have since fostered whippets that have been saved by Candy's Hound Rescue International, these are whippets that have been saved from the meat trade in China, or dumped as puppies, etc. CHRI sends a lot of their dogs to the U.K., they would be a great organization to get involved with to possibly "foster fail" or adopt through.

What do you think about getting litter mates? I’m getting a Whippet puppy next month, and I thought why not get two. Then I started researching and people were totally against it because of something called LitterMate Syndrome. Even the AKC is against getting litter mates. What are your thoughts?

I got two litter mates both lurchers, don't do it, they bring out the worst in each other and they don't get along they just tolerate each other.

My hubby got a whippet once. At the pound. Got home. Getting him out of the car, that thing took the hell off he never saw it or his adoption money 😂😂😂😂😂

@@ren7ee haha he is always awesome with taking charge of animals but this one ran so fast and fiercely that pulled the leash out of his hand and that was it . He laughs about it till now
