Unexplored is our brand-new series, aimed to inspire any angler to pick up the rods and head out on an adventure. Featuring anglers who have seldom set foot in the limelight, showing everyone what can be done when angling is still just a hobby, all be it a very dedicated one.
What do you do if you’re completely obsessed with carp fishing, but also have a family to care for and a full-time job? Jake Hughes is afflicted with this and completely admits he is addicted and obsessed with carp angling but knows that he must also be present for his partner and kids, and also hold a job in the industry that he is so passionate about too.
Limited to an overnighter a week, Jake uses his time like the most valuable currency on earth. Once the family is in bed, he often sacrifices sleep for a nighttime baiting mission, or even just to sit and observe the lake for an hour. It’s this extra effort that’s seen him land some impressive fish over the years, whilst spending limited time with rods in the water on some seriously demanding venues.
It's very clear that Jake oozes passion for carp fishing in everything he does, and despite his busy life, his mind is clearly at its most content when beside a lake. Finding and controlling this balance whilst catching some incredible carp along the way is truly inspiring.

Im exactly the same pal, I take care of the family first, as long as I know, they is a couple of Gregg's sauaage rolls in the fridge and a bottle of lucozade, i know that side is taken care of. I can fish and not worry 5-6 days and nights a week.

Man thats why i came away from it. All or nothing. Putting 30s bk. Without emotion is when i needed to leave it. Its unfair on them. And my family. I luv carp fishing im just an angler. To have a few days each year with the camp up and try to make something happen to keep the candle alight will do me. Its all very much about being there thing now. Carp offen do this, it's a flight reaction, they'll bleed from the gills, not because they are injured. Just a natural reaction some fish have.
