Unexplored is our brand-new series, aimed to inspire any angler to pick up the rods and head out on an adventure. Featuring anglers who have seldom set foot in the limelight, showing everyone what can be done when angling is still just a hobby, all be it a very dedicated one.
Scotland, it’s not a place you associate with carp fishing, but for the anglers who have the itch to scratch, that a trout or salmon won’t, it’s one of the last true frontiers left in Europe. We asked Kieran Hopkinson, who many know as Curly due to his tremendous locks, to show us what Scottish carp fishing is all about, whilst also delving into the mind of an angler that’s grown up fishing the incredibly hard waters his country has to offer.
We joined Kieran on a couple of occasions whilst he visited his family in Scotland, as he now resides in the Netherlands. He showcases the amazing scenery; discusses the challenges you face in Scotland as a carp angler and shares his incredible stories of his years hunting down true Scottish giants.
To add more depth and engage more with Kieran’s infectious love for carp fishing, we also joined him in Holland for a few days. Being a foreigner, he found life tough adapting to the language, but also felt his early years in Scotland taught him how to relentlessly pursue his quarry.
It’s obvious from the very beginning that Kieran loves carp fishing, and the outdoors as a whole and documenting that emotion and drive is what Unexplored is all about! You cannot help but be inspired!

What a great watch. Brilliant and a lovely true reflection on a proper carp angler. Scotland is defo like it used to be when it started in the UK. Too many don't get that history and pureness.

Been carp fishing in Scotland since ‘83. Biggest Scottish carp 30+, and that was definitely an unknown fish and home grown. Possibly the furthest north 30 in the UK 😊 If it’s still alive, I would love to come across it again. Definitely fish out there that are unknown.

Wasn't there a 40lb + fully scaled in a canal in Scotland I seem to remember or was that just below the boarder? There definitely was one way way up north

@ there was a 34lb 12oz fish taken off the Forth and Clyde canal. That was the previous record. Record now stands at 45lb 8oz.

Best one yet!! Never heard of him, but i absolutely love him, what a lad. Doesn't want instant B/S big carp, wants to target his Scottish carp that have been knocking around for years at there lower weights. Then takes himself off to the Netherlands to target tje canals 👏👏👏 Top Lad. If I ever took up carp fishing again, I want to do it in Scotland, get away from England.
