You can get a more lightweight USB-C charger for the X1. As long as its over 60 watt i believe. your comment is very valid. For example the charger for the X1 6gen was more heavy than the machine itself (so to speak).

Another reason why I prefer Thinkpad over Surface Pro is the fact that it comes with full-size HDMI connector, rather than the mini-display port. I have been to many boardrooms for presentation and I don't have to worry about forgetting to take a dongle with me to connect to presentation screen.

Late comment -- and suggestion for new comparisons. I currently use a Surface Book 2 (16GB RAM/1TB SSD; I had a Surface Pro 4 prior to this). I like the screen ratio and the battery life is ok. The screen mechanism is somewhat clumsy, and I'm not impressed with the wi-fi card/performance. Here are my "wishes" for my next laptop: * Screen shape: 3:2 is better than 16:10 is better than 16:9, preferably at least 13 inch. * I'd prefer a touch display with inking. Probably not 4k screen -- Windows doesn't work very well with high resolution (menus, etc. on some non-standard programs that I use). * Good video camera for video meetings. The Surface line has good cameras. MUST have Windows Hello video support. * I'd prefer 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD * Must have better wi-fi card. I'd also like to have LTE, or even better LTE + 5G. * Decent keyboard. The keyboard of the Surface Pro is adequate. The one of the Surface Book is better. ThinkPad keyboards are even better. HP keyboards can be good. I've been less impressed with Dell keyboards, but I may be wrong (XPS 13 from 2016). * Must have: good *real life* battery life. The Surface Pro 4 "promised" 8-9 hours; in reality I saw 1.5-5 hours. The Surface Book 2 "promised" 17 hours; I've seen 7-10 hours. * Not too heavy. So what should my next laptop be? * HPs new Dragonfly? Checks most boxes, but is 16:9 screen ? * New Surface Pro 7+? Smallish screen, max 16 GB RAM (SSD can perhaps be upgraded from 256GB). * ThinkPad X1 yoga? How good is the video camera? * Dell Latitude 9420? How good is the video camera? How good is the keyboard? For all: how good is the battery life?

How do you like it? Getting mine on Monday Did you consider XPS 2 in 1? C930? I only see negative comments so far...
@philippelambinet14255 жыл бұрын
@@caraveli2573 I really love it. I have been looking for the right laptop for a long time. They are either too slow (fanless Surface Pro 6 with i5) or too loud (Surface Pro with i7 with Boeing-like fan) or too heavy or too flashy/ugly (I don't understand how people can like the latest HP Spectre 13") or too plastic-cheap or they have unbearable MacBook-like keyboards. At the end, I found that 14" was the right dimension for me (not necessarily for everybody) because a 12" to 13" screen is too small for my tired eyes and 15" laptops are too heavy for my tired vertebras. So, in the 14" ultrabook category with high res screen and good keyboard, what choice do to REALLY have? X1 Carbon or X1 Yoga. That's it. I wanted both UHD and Touch screen so I had only one choice: X1 Yoga. Everything else is a bonus. Lots of ports. Fast NVMe drive, nice understated look and robust construction. OK, there is ONE thing I am not too happy with. It gets hot. We had a hot summer and I was wearing shorts quite often when working at home. I can tell you that this machine gets pretty hot and having it on my lap was not comfortable at all. With pants on, no issue so i'll have a comfortable winter :-)
@philippelambinet14255 жыл бұрын
I considered XPS 2 in 1 but the new model wasn't ready when I needed it. Also, Dell is following Apple in Dongle-land and I don't like it. In addition, it's a 13" screen and I find them too small for my taste. I almost went for the C930 but I decided against it because having an HDMI port is very useful for me as I do a lot of presentations and not having to carry another dongle to connect to a beamer is just very convenient. In addition, the feeling of robustness and high quality is not the same (this may be more perception than reality but perception matters).

@@philippelambinet1425 thank you very much for your feedback! I couldn't have said it better. Your reasons for buying the X1Y are exactly the same as mine. Go for x1 if you like something durable. I bought a gen 6 few months ago, it's just awesome. Compare to others in the same class like macbook or dell xps, x1 is better in many ways. Basically I can use it anywhere and anyway I want regardless dust, moist, heat,... the keyboard is outstanding, battery can survive 1 and a half workday but of course if you only do some basic office work. The one should be mentioned is speakers, they're just horrible.

This could have been a reall MacBook Killer, with the frosted glass touchpad, that awesome (non-butterfly hinge🙄) keyboard, metal case, a *touch screen w/ stylus*, and the lack of the dongle-life. If only they had made the RAM upgradeable, like the L380. Or even if they offered a 32GB or 64GB version for that longevity, at a reasonable price. Freaking Apple charging $800 bucks for 48 additional GBs of RAM in their 16" MBP?!?!? You could probably get an entire L380 on discount for that price, an entire laptop! Also, I prefer the clamshell to the 360 hinge. Very little wiggling when typing w/ clamshell; annoys the heck out of me, especially on a glossy screen. alas.....

YA the ram is a downfall but i'd imagine most wouldn't need more than 16 in an ultrabook but a few obviously would like the option!

I'd like to see linux tested on these, considering I dont ever touch windows.

Lenovo is certifying all their thinkpads for linux support soon. I can pretty much guarantee that both of these work just fine, however I've had trouble with my C740 yoga having an unsupported fingerprint reader made by a company called Shenzen?

@@Jemboj2895 Cool thanks I don't trust fingerprint readers because its just an incentive to cut mine off.
@Jemboj28954 жыл бұрын
@@TransitTycoon Pretty damn sure the fingerprint readers on the x1 are seperate from the main board and encrypted some how. Should be pretty safe.

i just bought the X1 Carbon and it was a utter disappointment i have to say it lasted 20 days. I was using is regularly as a student and one day while watching Netflix all I did was tilt the screen using the bottom right corner and the screen cracked. And when the model first arrived I also had a problem with the right palm rest making weird clicky sounds every time I rest my hands on it.
