IMPORTANT: Some things have changed shortly after recording this video (my timing is impeccable as always). 1. The entire AMD X13 range has become cheaper, with the R3 model at 680USD, the R5 model at 1200USD and the R7 model at 1500USD. This makes the X13 a much better value than it was previously, however my original conclusion still stands. Do consider an Amateur Ryzen laptop such as the Swift 3 as well because they are still much cheaper than the X13. 2. Intel has launched their 11th Gen Tiger Lake laptop CPUs just 2 days ago. I won't go into that much detail here, all you need to know is that the range tops out at 4C/8T at 4.8GHz and it seems that their highest-end iGPU is far better than the old G7, and even the 7nm Vega 8 in the 4800U. It may be worth considering over AMD laptops depending on your priorities, however as usual, I'd advise everyone to wait for third-party benchmarks, reviews, and pricing before buying anything. You can read more about it here: www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-tiger-lake-release-date-specs-benchmarks-all-we-know That's all for now. Thanks for watching and take care everyone!

@@Tech2PapaDude. It just came in the mail today. It's even better than I thought. It barely looks used at all. I wouldn't be surprised if it was ordered for an office and either only used in dock mode, or not used at all. Pristine besides a few light scratches on the outside of the case. It was 300 in total including shipping and tax, which was more than my 200 budget for a "fun" thinkpad that could also be used as a media streamer and linux try-er. Then I saw this x13 listing with 32gb ram and looked immaculate. I had to go for it, and I don't regret it. It's FAR better than any new laptop for that price, both in build quality, and processor/ram unless there's some flash sale. It's so great, I love it. For some reason, they had this listed cheaper than the gen 1 i5's. You made it look as good as it feels to me right now :)

A bit late here, but do you think the battery life is enough for university studies? Alot of reviews online are criticizing the X13 Gen1a's battery life alot, but I dont know if this is exaggerated. A Ryzen 5 5600U Thinkpad is about 110USD more expensive here (T14sG2a) so I dont know if it is worth it, or the X13 is enough already (battery wise).

How about performance for the same Thinkpad x13 but with intel i7 10510u? And, Is It possible to connect to 22 inch monitor and get the same graphics?
@Tech2Papa4 жыл бұрын
The i7-10510U is roughly equivalent to the i7-10610U, so about the same single-thread performance as the Ryzen CPUs, but given that it only has 4 cores and 8 threads, it’ll be about 66% the multi-thread performance of the 6 core 12 thread R5 4650U, and half the performance of the R7 4750U. Check the CPU benchmark section (12:34 - 14:26) for more details. I’m not sure what you mean by “same graphics”, but you can connect the laptop to an external monitor using the HDMI or Displayport ports.

intel i5-8265u x1 yoga vs ryzen 5 4650u x13? Which to buy for photo editing?
@Tech2Papa3 жыл бұрын
Photo editing programs like Photoshop typically rely on single-core performance. From this benchmark (bit.ly/38Rz3sL), the R5 4500U (basically a 4650U without hyperthreading) is slightly faster than the 8265U, but it’s nothing groundbreaking. Both chips will do you fine. Though the 4650U will destroy the 8265U in multicore applications due to its 2 extra cores, so if that’s something you can take advantage of, the X13 may be better. Aside from that, I’d pick the laptop with the best screen (best brightness, best color coverage, best color accuracy). If both laptops fulfill those purposes well, then choose the one with the features/design you like, or whichever one is cheaper for the similar hardware.

From this spec sheet (psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_X13_Gen_1_Intel/ThinkPad_X13_Gen_1_Intel_Spec.pdf) it seems like the top is made of carbon fiber for models with the 1080p non-touch screens.

Hi, great review...just a question about screen format form size (even 1920x1080)...is it good or too small for writing/excel/pdf reading ? should be a better choice T14s or X1 Carbon 14' ? tks
@Tech2Papa4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I had no problems writing my script or creating the benchmark charts on this machine, and I’m used to working on a 34” ultrawide. So I don’t think a 13” laptop is too small for productive work. I’d suggest looking at the exact specs of the T14s and the X13 to decide between them since they are very similar. As for the X1 Carbon, keep in mind it’s restricted to Intel, which means you’ll max out at 4 cores while the X13 and T14s can have up to 8 on the AMD version, which will be useful if you use heavily multithreaded apps.
@imbujo4 жыл бұрын
@@Tech2Papa Hi, thank you for your answer. X13 and T14s are quite identical but size screen and battery. I agree about X1 carbon Intel, the only advantage on the T14s should be a more similar 13.3" compact size instead if compared with X13 a bigger battery and a 14' screen but less performances. X1 Carbon with Ryzen may be the best one ;). Hard choice.

@Tech2Papa4 жыл бұрын
It’ll be great for using Adobe software. With the 8-core Ryzen 7 4750U, it’ll be faster than almost any other 13” laptop. Whether it’s better than a MacBook Pro 13 for you though is a tough call. On one hand, it’ll be faster for gaming assuming you go with the Ryzen 5 or 7 model, and if you’re using apps such as Adobe Premiere, rendering will be faster as well. On the other hand, apps like Photoshop rely on single-threaded performance so you won’t really see the benefit of the Ryzen processors here, plus coding on MacOS might be easier given that it’s built on Unix.

@@Tech2Papa thanks buddy. one more question for you, haha! how do you compare the thinkpad x13's touchpad versus the likes of macbook and surface? cheers...
@Tech2Papa4 жыл бұрын
Macbook trackpads are definitely the best. The surface has just the right amount of friction, tracking is fantastic, and modern Mac trackpads use force touch technology which means they can be clicked anywhere with the same amount of force. ThinkPad and Surface trackpads are similar I think. I haven’t had enough time with a Surface device to give it a proper feel, but from my limited time with a Surface Go, they don’t feel any different.

Great review! For light video editing and music production, would you recommend the t13 or the t14 models for ThinkPad? Or would they be similar except for the size?
@Tech2Papa4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Assuming you mean X13 and T14, they have almost identical hardware choices. However, the T14 is larger and heavier, and its RAM can be upgraded. On the flip side, it can only be equipped with up to 16GB of RAM on the Lenovo US website. If you only need 16GB of RAM, then you can’t go wrong with either of them. If you need 32 (which will be useful for running heavy multitasking especially when editing video), then the X13 is the better pick given that you can’t get it on the T14.

Hello! I was considering to get the X13 based on your video but I eventually settled on Lenovo Legion 5 Gaming Laptop, 15" FHD (1920x1080) IPS Screen, AMD Ryzen 7 4800H Processor, 16GB DDR4, 512GB SSD, NVIDIA GTX 1660Ti. Can't go wrong with this right? Since I am a gamer but plan on using this for photoshop and other animation programs as well. For $999.
@Tech2Papa4 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a good combo and for a great price! I’m actually testing a Legion 5 right now and I really like it so far. Though since you’re using it for gaming and for photoshop I’d advise you to get the 100% sRGB 144Hz screen.

@Tech2Papa4 жыл бұрын
It seems like they’re very similar laptops. What are you going to use them for? If you’re doing something that needs heavy processing power (e.g. content creation, 3D rendering), then the ProBook may be a better option, as its 4700U decimates the 1065G7 in the Spin 5. If you’re just using it for office work, then the Spin 5 may be a better option. Even if its CPU or graphics won’t be as fast as the Ryzen in the ProBook, you won’t really benefit from the additional power, plus it has a 3:2 screen which you prefer. It also comes with Thunderbolt 3 which may be useful for an office environment since you can connect to multiple devices at a time.
